About the Author

Научные исследования в космосе настолько долго были инструментом политического соперничества государств, что в настоящее время в сознание общественности нашей страны практически внедрилась уверенность в том, что ничего другого кроме удовлетворения амбиций такие исследования и не несут. Отсутствие немедленного экономического эффекта от фундаментальных открытий только подогревает подобные настроения. Фигура государственного чиновника, оставляющего без финансирования научно-исследовательскую космическую программу, встречает если не сочувствие, то по крайней мере понимание, в том числе и со стороны как руководства Вооруженными Силами, так и офицерского корпуса.

Опасность подобной точки зрения состоит именно в том, что, будучи сопоставимой по последствиям с обычным предательством, она легко маскируется под радение за народное благосостояние в силу неочевидного, стратегического характера тех же последствий.

Каждая крупица новых знаний -- национальное достояние, и за каждый байт новой информации нужно сражаться так же, как и за каждую пядь родной землию. Может быть, это даже сложнее, так как специфика этой борьбы резко отличается от привычного бросания в бой батальонов, а проигрыш имеет ту же цену, что и в "обычной" войне, -- прозябание и деградация нации; пусть не сразу, а в неблизком будущем, но зато гарантированно и неизбежно.

В сказках источником захватывающих и опасных приключений часто выступает желание сделать что-то банальное: что-то узнать, что-то увидеть, куда-то сходить, жениться по любви или просто набить морду какому-нибудь супостату. Источником создания уникальных систем глобальной навигации также было желание получить ответ на банальный вопрос "где это я?", который может возникнуть у самых разных людей не только утром после праздника. Столетия поисков, невероятной изобретательности, административного хамства и талантливой учености были потрачены на решение задачи определения собственных координат и вектора скорости, которая ныне решается в секунды заурядным обывателем методом тыкания пальцем в кнопки приборчика, созданного и работающего неведомым для этого обывателя образом. Несомненно, что тем, кто уверен, что знает свое место и знает, куда идет, вовсе не обязательно знать, как это все работает. Но все же жизнь меняют к лучшему те, кто мучается древним вопросом "камо грядеши?", и пусть нынешние космические системы навигации не предназначены для ответа на этот вопрос -- он создавались именно теми людьми, которым было интересно узнавать в подробностях сотворенный до них мир, чтобы прибавить к нему что-нибудь свое. Большая удача -- идти с такими людьми одной дорогой. Тем более когда эта дорога -- путь к звездам.
Космонавтика тем и замечательна, что в ней можно встретить много хороших людей.
