In addition to hosting a visit by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden on Wednesday, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also met with Texas Gov. Rick Perry to discuss state support for the company's proposed commercial spaceport near Brownsville. Apparently, things went well.

Prior to the meeting, Musk said that Texas is the leading candidate for the commercial launch site. The company is also looking at locations in Florida, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Musk added that he was scheduled to meet with the governor and key members of the Texas State Legislature. The topic of flying astronauts into space from Texas would be discussed. That would depend upon whether NASA awards SpaceX funding for that purpose under the commercial crew program.

Блошиные подковки указывают на iLIDS (он же NDS). Потому что в IDSS не прописаны рамки и на эталонных образцах лопатки тоже сплошные (т.к. русские не доверяют магнитикам, а используют защелки).

It is probable that, during the trials with the DragonRider mockup and astronauts, Spx engineers decided that was more convenient to rotate the crew seat assembly of 180°. It would explain the thing.

Yes, the crew is laying down with the feet towards the hatch. It may seem counter-intuitive, but there are some good reasons for it.

Note where the chute attachment point is - just outside the CBM circle - above the astro's heads. If positioned with the head toward the hatch, that would be a nasty whiplash followed by several minutes of uncomfortable incline.

Also, the seat layout does not match the latest shots of the 'crew' interior - the seats are not in a line, and the bottom pressurized cylinder volume is filled out. A short while ago I made this interior cutaway based on the most up to date SpaceX pictures:

Нет шлемов, скафандров, пультов, ложементов, СОЖ, СОТР и т.д.
Посадка в бурном океане - все они смертники так как самостоятельно никто не выберется из СА. да и некуда выбираться.  Учитывая - что все ослабленны физически многомесячным пребыванием в космосе и учитывая что все не на суше а в бушующем океане.
В общем - хохма.

Будут оставлять 4х, (но рисуют семерых, полеты на МКС 4НАСА+3Роскосмос ))) или полеты на пузыри Бигелоу требуют пилота, бортинженера и стюарда)))

На НСФ подробно обсудили и исправили ошибки в изображении DragonRider: пририсовали носатый САС, поставили новый СУ и разместили экипаж согласно макетам. Теперь на картинке астронавты вверх ногами, но вписываются в габарит кабины)).

iLIDS на макете Спейсекса расположен ассиметрично, но сдвигать лучше в сторону входного люка, т.к. там меньше тепловые нагрузки :roll:

Hawthorne, CA  (SpaceX PR) – Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) today won a $440 million contract with NASA to develop the successor to the Space Shuttle and transport American astronauts into space.

"This is a decisive milestone in human spaceflight and sets an exciting course for the next phase of American space exploration," said SpaceX CEO and Chief Designer Elon Musk. "SpaceX, along with our partners at NASA, will continue to push the boundaries of space technology to develop the safest, most advanced crew vehicle ever flown."

SpaceX expects to undertake its first manned flight by 2015 – a timetable that capitalizes on the proven success of the company's Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft combination. While Dragon is initially being used to transport cargo to the International Space Station, both Dragon and Falcon 9 were designed from the beginning to carry crew.

Under the Commercial Crew Integrated Capability (CCiCap) initiative's base period, SpaceX will make the final modifications necessary to prepare Dragon to safely transport astronauts into space. These include:
* Seats for seven astronauts.
* The most technically advanced launch escape system ever developed, with powered abort possibilities from launch pad to orbit. SpaceX will demonstrate that Dragon will be able to escape a launch-pad emergency by firing integrated SuperDraco engines to carry the spacecraft safely to the ocean. SpaceX will also conduct an in-flight abort test that allows Dragon to escape at the moment of maximum aerodynamic drag, again by firing the SuperDraco thrusters to carry the spacecraft a safe distance from the rocket.
* A breakthrough propulsive landing system for gentle ground touchdowns on legs.
*  and rigorous testing of essential aspects of Dragon's design, including life-support systems and an advanced cockpit design complete with modern human interfaces.

SpaceX will perform stringent safety and mission-assurance analyses to demonstrate that all these systems meet NASA requirements.

With a minimal number of stage separations, all-liquid rocket engines that can be throttled and turned off in an emergency, engine-out capability during ascent, and powered abort capability all the way to orbit, the Falcon 9-Dragon combination will be the safest spacecraft ever developed.
