Launch of Israeli satellite assigned to SpaceX

A Falcon 9 rocket will launch Israel's Amos 6 communications satellite fr om Cape Canaveral in 2015, SpaceX and Israeli satellite operator Spacecom announced Tuesday.

The Amos 6 satellite will beam broadband Internet services to homes across Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Space Communication Ltd. of Tel Aviv signed a $195 million contract with Israel Aerospace Industries in November for construction of the satellite. MDA Corp. of Canada is contractor for Amos 6's Ku-band and Ka-band communications equipment.

Spacecom and SpaceX signed an agreement in 2010 for the launch of an unspecified Amos communications satellite, and Tuesday's announcement identified the 12,125-pound Amos 6 spacecraft as Spacecom's first payload to fly with SpaceX.

"This last year has been one of great success and tremendous growth," said Gwynne Shotwell, president of SpaceX. "Spacecom was one of our earliest supporters. SpaceX is proud to be their partner and we look forward to launching their Amos 6 satellite."

Spacecom will position Amos 6 in geostationary orbit at 4 degrees west longitude, wh ere it will replace the Amos 2 satellite launched in 2003. The Amos 6 satellite's design lifetime is 16 years, according to a press release.

Commercial customers and the Israeli government will use the Amos 6 satellite. Spacecom holds a $20 million agreement with the Israeli government for various communications services to be routed through Amos 6 once the craft is operational.

"We are excited to partner with SpaceX and its tremendous team. Amos 6 will be larger and stronger than Amos 2 and Amos 3 combined, and signals a new age for Spacecom," said David Pollack, president and CEO of Spacecom. "As we establish our position as a global satellite operator providing more services and capacity, Amos 6 will be a key element of our business strategy and future."

Amos 6 will launch on SpaceX's upgraded Falcon 9 rocket, which is set for its first test launch later this year from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.

The current version of the Falcon 9 rocket has launched four times since 2010, including two cargo missions of SpaceX's Dragon capsule to the International Space Station.

The next Falcon 9 launch, now scheduled for liftoff on March 1, will be the last launch of the Falcon 9's existing design.

The new version of the privately-built launcher features extended first stage fuel tanks, more powerful Merlin engines and an altered first stage engine configuration.

стартовый стол залит и набирает прочность. видны 8 групп шпилек для устройств удержания РН. На правом гозоходе установлена эстакада для эректора. могут и успеть, если с 4 декабря не бездельничают.
Вот вопрос - как F9 v1.1 будут удерживать: если посередине - будет два устройства, если с краю - несимметрично 3.

Дама произносит обычный набор "Мы с чистого листа делаем, Используем лучшие идеи французов и русских. С самого начала Фалькон9 делается как для людей. Вторая ступень имеет повторное зажигание для запуска спутников."

Но лапки нарисовали. Интригуют как обычно.

Brasilia, February 2, 2013 (AEB PR) - The president of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), José Raimundo Coelho, received the director of business for the American company SpaceX, Stella Guillen, on the morning of Monday (January 28).

Guillen came to Brazil to present SpaceX, to know the programs developed by the country, and to evaluate possible partnerships. "It is interesting to know more about what private companies are doing in the industry. We can learn from them and also envision future partnerships, "says the chairman of AEB.

After the visit to the AEB, Guillen gave a lecture to students and faculty at the University of Brasilia. Just this week, she visits the National Institute for Space Research (INPE).

SpaceX: The company was established in 2002 by Elon Musk, with the goal of providing space transportation for people and cargo, at a low cost. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California (USA), the company currently has 2,500 employees with two launch centers - one in Cape Canaveral, Fla., and one in Vandenberg, California - and a testing center located in Texas (USA).

In its ten years of existence, the company managed over $4 billion in contracts. Approximately 40% of its flights are conducted for the American Space Agency (NASA). The rest are commercial contracts.

In 2012, SpaceX made history as the first private equity firm in the world to send cargo to the International Space Station. According to Guillen, SpaceX is expected to grow 20% in 2013 alone.

(В прошлом году Гугл показывал еще старый Титановский старт с башней.)
Новый снимок, правда, сделан тоже значительно раньше 4 декабря 2012 года, но на нем уже есть построенный сборочный ангар (МИК по-нашему). Судя по его расположению, ракету будут вывозить "из-за угла". В словах "вывоз с разворотом", видимо, подразумевалось именно это.
