With sol 2560's drive, that's almost exactly a full kilometer of driving in the two weeks since she left Santa Maria....

Тo put that in perspective, there are roughly only 5 km left to the base of Cape York.

Разве? От Санты Марии до мыс Йорк 6,5 км. Да ровер проехал 1 км., но проехал он, конечно, же не по прямой.  Посметреть хотя бы два первых "заезда" от Санты Марии
Думаю ростояния 6,5 км по прямой, для ровера будет где то, наверное,  до 8 км.

Mars Exploration Rovers Update:
Spirit Recovery Attempt Continues, Opportunity Sprints to Endeavour [/size]

As Opportunity drove her little robot heart out, breaking the 28-kilometer mark on her odometer, and driving the longest backward drive ever, April proved to be another month of exhilarating highs for the Mars Exploration Rover mission and one extended low with only silence from Spirit, despite intensified efforts by her Earth crew to establish contact.

The MER plan forward calls for the stepped-up recovery operations -- or campaign to listen for and reach out to Spirit at Gusev Crater – to continue through most of May. Then, in June, "greatly reduced" recovery operations will begin and run through the end of the year. "We have pretty well exhausted some of the seven primary strategies, and we're continuing down our list," reported Bill Nelson, the chief of the rover engineering team at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), where the Mars Exploration Rovers (MERs) were "born" and are being managed.

During the extended recovery operations, the team will try things considered to be conceivable last-ditch efforts, said Nelson. For the most part, these involve responses to unlikely scenarios. However, with opportunities to listen and reach out being reduced to about once a week in June, only 30 opportunities at best will remain for Spirit to respond before the end of 2011. Thus, the Radio Science Team at JPL may decide to employ prime strategy techniques as well during this time.

Opportunity - Sol 2600 route map

Another 100 sols has elapsed, and after the 100+ metre drive on sol 2600 it is time to update my large scale route map.

Opportunity has made record progress since sol 2500 which is all the more remarkable when you consider that she didn't leave Santa Maria crater until sol 2547! The last 50 sols have been stunning.

19-Mile Mark See Opportunity For A Solar Panel Clean Up



Opportunity continues to make excellent progress towards Endeavour crater with under 3 kilometers to go before the first landfall on the rim.

Not far to go now.

On Sols 2622, 2626, 2627 and 2628 (June 9, 14, 15 and 16, 2011), the rover drove over 345 meters (1,132 feet) backwards using a combination of blind driving and autonomous navigation.

Opportunity has been driving towards the south/southeast, passing by interesting craters along the way. Currently, the rover is passing through a strewn field of crater impacts, suspected to be all from the same air fall event.
