Preliminary analysis of the data on Steno indicates that this layer looks similar to other Meridiani sulfate sandstones.
That actually stands to reason, because this light-toned rock layer was, the scientists think, the original surface of the planet before whatever it was impacted the area and created Victoria Crater.
It should be the same as what we've been driving across for the last three, four years....

"Interestingly, the blueberries in the MI images of these layers are actually microberries, 1 millimeter or less in size".  

"These are not at all like the big juicy ones we saw as we were coming south from Endurance, when the berries got smaller and smaller until we got into the apron around Victoria and found more large blueberries sitting on the surface. Now, in the rocks at the upper reaches of Victoria, we're back to microberries.
This is consistent with the hypothesis that when the impact that created Victoria occurred, it may have excavated material from deeper, material that came from rocks with larger berries and in that ejecta left those larger berries scattered around on the apron.
The upper layers look like the stuff we were on before we came onto the Victoria apron. That's one hypothesis we're following here. We're wondering now if as we go deeper in Victoria we'll see larger berries?"

Opportunity is still parked in front of the rock layer known as "Smith" inside Victoria Crater. The rover has now lost two encoders that operate motors on the rock abrasion tool during the grinding and brushing of surfaces. Science team members and engineers have been working in test beds and computer sequencing rooms to devise creative ways of using the rock abrasion tool without the grind and revolve encoders.

And now another encoder on Opportunity has broken down. This one monitors the brush that clears away rock dust produced by the grinder. The rover team have worked out a way around that as well, but accidentally rotated the brush the wrong way, bending the bristles.

Some testing is needed to make sure it is safe to continue using the grinder with the bent brush. "Our expectation is that we will be able to resume grinding operations with the RAT within a couple of weeks," Callas says.

...On Sol 1359 (Nov. 20, 2007), a joint in Opportunity's robotic arm (Joint 1) that controls azimuth (left-right motion) stalled during the acquisition of microscopic images of the unground surface of Smith2. Plans called for the rover to acquire the rest of the microscopic images on sol 1366 (Nov. 27, 2007). After the stall, the rover acquired information about the atmosphere rather than the rock target with the alpha-particle X-ray spectrometer.....

The images enable us to study changes on the red planet, such as subtle variations in color and texture shown here in a ring of rocks inside "Victoria Crater." The light-colored rocks are interesting because they may be the original surface before a meteor formed the crater and splattered debris onto it.

Sol-by-sol summary:

In addition to morning uplinks directly from Earth via the rover's high-gain antenna, evening downlinks to Earth via the Odyssey orbiter at UHF frequencies, and standard measurements of atmospheric opacity caused by dust using the panoramic and navigation cameras, Opportunity completed the following activities:

Sol 1361 (Nov. 22, 2007): Opportunity performed diagnostic tests of the robotic arm, placed the alpha-particle X-ray spectrometer on the target known as Smith2, and collected 6 hours of data with the instrument. The rover went into a mini-deep sleep and upon awakening the next morning, scanned the sky for clouds with the navigation camera.
