Excellent, Thanks!!!

I'm staying up late (it's almost morning) to post a couple of photos of the MAI Lander. Oleg, these photos you are posting from MAI, are these in the galleries and I've just missed them, or are these for a Gallery to come (or are they just your photos)?

I'll post here shortly!

Awesome Bonus, or have I fallen asleep and this is a dream?

This one is the back looking down into the Instrument Section:

And finally a look at the outer right side, to determine where door would   blow...not a clue

There are more, but these are the best so far!

МАИ, 90-е годы?....

1989!

It took me this long to track them down! Very fortunate that they got to photograph this before it was refurbished. To be able to look into the Block E Toroidal Fuel Tank and see some of its' internal design, Plus to see the shape from remnants of the original thermal blanket, and some of the internal instrumentation was a priceless opportunity!

This is not to say that any of the images, and closeups you are providing us with are any less valuable, Oleg! :D

Yes, I would very much like to see inside, especially all the little compartments, and behind the seats and control panels. It is areas like this which get the least attention, but they are so important to see in order to get "the BIG picture"!

I look forward to seeing what you accomplish ... when you get the time to do it  !

Respected Comrades!

Is there someone here who has access to, and can scan three images from the August issue of Radio?

I need to get photo 2 on page 8, and photo 3 on page 9 scanned at 300 dpi. I have these on DjVu but the quality of the images is terrible. These are the first images I have seen of the "Planeta" radars which preceded the models used on the Lunniy Korabl. One of them is shown attached to the Mi-6 helicopter used to simulate landing on the Lunar surface.

In addition to these there is a photo of Luna-17 on the inside front cover that would be nice to have scanned! The "Planeta" is visible on it as well.

These are very exciting images and I would love to study them more closely!

Thank you in advance!

I wish there was a better photo of this:

or an image looking straight at the front, or from lower angle. That landing Radar is probably the same as what would have been used on the Lunniy Korabl!

Does anyone have any good photographs of the Luna -17 through 24 landing radar?

Curious again,

There is a device used to hold the Block E Engine Exhaust Deflector Doors open until  the Lunar craft lands. Upon landing this device releases the doors. The question is this: How does this device work? How does it hold, and how does it release?

Here are some photos of this device in action:

Here are a couple of photos showing where the device attaches to the doors:

This image shows what may be the attching end of this device (at the very center top:

If anybody has any knowledge of how these devices operate, I would love to learn about it!!!

Many thanks in advance,

Two questions, but first:

To keep the Lunniy Korabl cool Department 59 of NPO Nauka developed the first Soviet vaporization device for use in space. This vaporization unit had four coolant tanks. Two of these were on the LPU, with one located just forward of the ladder and the other on the opposite side just to the rear of the strapped on instrument compartment. The other two coolant tanks were for the cabin with one next to the vaporization unit on the right side of the cabin exterior, and the other located above the head of the cosmonaut on the exterior under the Orientation Engine Block.

First question: Does anybody have access to the book, "75 лет для авиации и космоса [Текст] : монография ; Открытое акционер. о-во НПО "Наука" / Открытое акционер. о-во НПО "Наука". - М. : Бедретдинов и Ко, 2006 (М.)"

Apparently this information is in this book, and I would like to know more about it.

And the second question: This appears to be part of the coolant system. Does anybody know the exact purpose of this device?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
