OV-101 'Enterprise"
Washington - Dulles International (IAD / KIAD)
USA - Virginia, October 23, 2008

OV-105 (cn OV-105) "Endeavour" sits in the central transfer aisle of the VAB while the frame for the crane attachment is secured according to specifications. Then, she will be hoisted and rotated 90 degrees to the vertical position at which orientation she will remain until orbit.

OV-105 (cn OV-105) "Endeavour" has been towed over from the Orbiter Processing Facility (tow vehicle is still under the orbiter) to the VAB transfer aisle and the crane hoist components are being attached. When finished, she will be raised to a vertical position and moved to one of the high bays and lowered onto the Mobile Launcher Platform thus joining the rest of the stack.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) At dusk, a strange looking convoy leaves the KSC Shuttle Landing strip and heads towards the heart of KSC at a crawl. A tractor tow vehicle pulls Discovery along a two mile tow-way from the SLF to the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF), a structure similar in design to a sophisticated aircraft hangar, where processing Discovery for another flight begins. Note the texture of the orbiter's surface in the unusual green lighting of the convoy. A few hours ago, she was on fire and plunging to Earth.

OV-105 "Endeavour" sits in hanger (OPF #2) preparing for the "STS-118" Mission to the ISS. Fresh from a lengthy overhaul from Dec. 2003 to Oct. 2005 following mission STS-113 (Nov. 2002) she is getting ready for Space. A new satellite navigation system and glass cockpit have been installed. You are standing next to the right main landing gear with a view of the thermal protection system.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) Rollover of the Orbiter "Discovery" under armed guard and snail pace. A special transport powered trailer is used for the short move from the OPF to the VAB (seen in background). She is on her way to pick up her fuel tank and solid rocket boosters for Return to Flight mission # 1.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) If you got stand under an orbiter while she is being processed for space flight, it would look like this. This is inside OPF #3. The Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) is the hangar where NASA's Space Shuttle Orbiter undergoes maintenance between flights. When a mission is completed, the orbiter is parked in its OPF. Its previous mission payloads are removed and the vehicle is fully inspected, tested, & refurbished. Discovery has flown 2 missions since.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) Immediately after landing, the orbiter is towed to the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF). Here she is cocooned by access arms and made "safe". Then she is refitted and prepared for the next flight. "Discovery" has been here since August 21st 2005 and now she is ready for STS-121 "Return to Flight" mission #2.

OV-103 (cn OV-103) "Discovery" get ready to enter the vast cavernous Vehicle Assembly Building as part of STS-121 "Return to Flight" mission. Current launch date July 1,2006. Window extends till July 19th. The grey exhaust smoke is from the transporter beneath.

OV-101 This was the shuttle prototype used to test the landings. It was later used for vibration tests. In 2003 it was added to the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles. Photo taken by my grandfather John Anderholm.

Вот ещё. Ночную я размещал, теперь дневная.

Boeing 747-123(SCA)
N905NA (cn 20107/86) I was lying on the ground with my smallest lens trying to get this whole scene in. The Mate/Demate device is a monster as can be seen here. It swallowed the 747 and the shuttle.
