September 10, 2009:
China is having an official "coming out" ceremony for several  of its "secret" missiles, during the October 1 parade to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the communist takeover of China. The most notable "new" (but known to the intel agencies) missiles are;

DF-41. This is a solid fuel ICBM with a range of 12,000 kilometers. Similar to the Russian Topol-M.

The Julang 2 is a SLBM that uses solid fuel and has a range of 8,000 kilometers.

The DH-10, which is similar to early U.S. cruise missiles, and has a range of 1,500 kilometers and uses GPS, along with terrain mapping.

In addition there will be some shorter range battlefield ballistic missiles.

These include the DF-11, a solid fuel missile similar to the SCUD, with a 300 kilometers range.
The ones appearing in the parade have a new type of warhead (apparently a penetrating one, to get at bunkers.)

Another new model, of an existing missile, is the DF-15, which is a solid fuel ballistic missile with a 600 kilometers range.

Finally, the Chinese "aircraft carrier killer" is apparently in the parade as well. This is the DF-21C, a solid fuel ballistic missile with a 2,500 kilometer range and a warhead with targeting sensors able to find and hit something as small (to an incoming ballistic missile) as a thousand foot (320 meter) long carrier.

ЦитироватьCompared with the United States and Russia, China has a tiny nuclear arsenal. It probably has less than 100 delivery systems and an estimated total of 800 warheads, experts say. The United States has more than 2,000 deployed long-range warheads and an estimated 5,000 working warheads.

Nonetheless, the U.S.-Russian deal comes at a time when China is modernizing and increasing the scale of its nuclear arsenal, Twomey said. China has deployed a new mobile rocket called the DF-31A that can reach anywhere in the United States. China is beginning to put to sea a genuine sea-based deterrent in the form of the Jin-class nuclear submarine armed with a variant of the DF-31.

Twomey said the United States is concerned that as it and Russia decrease their forces, China might attempt a "rush to parity" by building more Jin-class submarines or by placing multiple warheads on their land-based mobile missiles. That would make future arms control measures in the United States almost impossible.

ЦитироватьChina adding missiles near Taiwan: navy official
Posted on 29 March 2010

Mar.29 (China Military News cited from Reuters and written by Ralph Jennings) — China has added long-range missiles near Taiwan and leads the self-ruled island in military defenses, a U.S. navy official said, suggesting that Taiwan may need new F-16 jet fighters.

China has deployed "an increasing number" of Russian surface-to-air missiles across an ocean strait about 160 km (100 miles) from Taiwan, U.S. Navy Commander Robert Willard told a Senate committee in Washington but did not give a timeframe.

"Beijing remains committed to eventual unification with Taiwan and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve that goal," Willard said, according to a statement made available on Saturday by the U.S. Pacific Command.

"The (People's Liberation Army's) continued military advancements sustain a trend of shifting the cross-Strait military balance in Beijing's favor," he said.

A $6.4-billion U.S. arms package for Taiwan announced in January would shore up the island's self-defense, but has enraged China.

Although Willard did not say whether Washington should grant Taiwan's long sought request to buy F-16 fighter jets, seen as a red line in already tense Sino-U.S. ties, he said existing aircraft would "have to be recapitalized."

China has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since 1949, when Mao Zedong's forces won the Chinese civil war and Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalists fled to the island. But ties have warmed since 2008 as the two sides began to talk trade.

ЦитироватьNSPO has successfully launched scientific rocket
TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The National Space Organization (NSPO) touted Monday the recent launch of Sounding Rocket VII as a success, describing it as a major breakthrough in Taiwan's space exploration efforts.
The rocket was launched at 7:50 p.m. May 5 from the Jioupeng military base in southern Taiwan's Pingtung County after a string of delays since its original launch date of November 2008.

During its 500 second-plus mission, the rocket was able to retrieve valuable information on changes in the ionosphere over the Taiwan region as well as the structure and production mechanism of plasma irregularities in the ionosphere. The data, said NSPO Systems Engineering Director Chen Yen-sen, is crucial for improving Taiwan's global positioning system (GPS) and telecommunication infrastructures.

One of Sounding Rocket VII's most notable breakthroughs is its ability to carry the largest payload ever in Taiwan's space program. The payload included a retarding potential analyzer, a Langmuir probe, a spectrometer, a GPS system and two ion traps.

He described the ultimate goal of Taiwan's rocket program as being aimed at enhancing the country's self-reliance in terms of its space exploration program such as launching its own satellite, possibly in three to four years based on current abilities.

Meanwhile, Chu Yen-hsyang, a professor at National Central University's Graduate Institute of Space Science, said the cost of the Sounding Record VII project, including building the actual rocket, was over NT$70 million (US$2.21 million).

"It was definitely money well-spent. This mission furthered our understanding of the space above Taiwan as well as helped us to know what we can do to overcome future telecommunication-related disturbances," he said.

Taiwan has launched six rockets between 1998 and 2007, and the NSPO estimates that the next launch will take place in 2012.

The project was the result of collaboration among National Central University, the NSPO and the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology.

ZHUHAI, CHINA

The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (Casic) has unveiled a new air-launched, land-attack cruise missile.

The weapon, first shown here at Airshow China, is the latest member of the C-802 missile family. The CM-802AKG, as the new weapon is designated, also has longer range than the air-launched version of the anti-ship C-802A, a company official says. The CM-802AKG range exceeds 200 km, whereas the C-802A has a range of around 180 km.

The missile weighs less than 700 kg and is equipped with a multipurpose warhead of slightly below 300 kg mass. One of the main design features of the weapon was achieving the range target at low weight, the Casic engineer notes.

The CM-802AKG uses either an infrared seeker or TV-seeker for terminal guidance. It uses a strap-down inertial navigation system, but GPS-guidance kit could be installed.

The missile is now in production in China, the Casic official says, and the company now is pursuing export customers.

Zhuhai Airshow this show CM802AKG Aerospace Science and Industry next-generation air-ground missile, the missile can be mounted on the mainstream of the international fixed-wing aircraft. Missile uses inertial navigation, TV seeker, and to achieve digital control, with a small size, light weight, long range, penetration ability, hit the high precision and explosive power of large maintenance and simple operation.

CM802AKG used to attack enemy missile field command center, front-line airport, radar stations and logistic positions, self-propelled missiles, artillery positions and a variety of mobile tactical targets, and can take into account the objectives of the enemy ships at sea attack.

according to the presence of experts, CM802AKG can use several different missile seeker, such as: infrared seeker, television, and radar guided seeker first class. The guided missile in the terminal also features a new inertial navigation technology and, therefore, are joint-guided missiles.

other parameters of the missile system is basically the same with the C802A, the difference is the increase of its maximum range, to be farther than C802A. According to experts, the maximum can reach 220 km. While this show was mainly used CM802AKG missile is airborne launch mode, firing techniques with cold means of launching, more secure and reliable.

the same time the presence of experts also pointed out that this air show in the display of the C802A, CM802AKG Although the appearance of such missiles is still with the old version of the missile is not very significant difference, but its internal settings, and various techniques used all new development, so the comparison of these missiles are now showing early models of the same type of missile, the performance has a very significant increase.

addition experts said, CM802AGK C802A missile can also use a similar system as the end of the rocket-propelled. The missile system has a maximum flight speed and C802 series of missiles belong to the same high subsonic missiles. However, development of complete missile systems CM802AGK based primarily on the basis of the original C802 developed, for the replacement of "CM" name, the expert explained that this is due to the use of new missile systems use on the basis of the previous version is very different, so use Naming a new name.
