EVA-58: Koch, anchored to the end of the robot arm, is unlatching insulation around the spare BCDU on logistics carrier No. 1; Meir, meanwhile, has installed hand holds on the faulty BCDU to facilitate its removal later this morning from the P6 integrated electronics assembly

Koch removing "MLI" (Multi Layer Insulation) from the new BCDU.  In space without atmospheric convection things tend to get VERY hot when the Sun is shining on them and VERY cold when not, so thermal insulation is super important

New BCDU unit is serial number 0028. Preparing to remove it from ELC-1 Site 4.

Koch removed BCDU 0028 from Express Logistics Carrier 1 at 1342 UTC.  She will move it to the P6 truss to swap it with the broken unit.

EVA-58: Elapsed time: 2h5m; Koch, running ahead of schedule, has unbolted the spare battery controller fr om its mount on a storage platform, clearing the way for moving the 232-pound unit outboard to the P6 equipment bay wh ere it will be installed in place of a faulty unit

EVA-58: Because of the BCDU failure last week, power channel 2B is now being powered by 2 lithium-ion batteries instead of 3; no equipment has been powered down as a result, but a subsequent BCDU failure would impact station operations

EVA-58: Koch has handed off the spare BCDU to Meir and gotten off the robot arm; the astronauts are about ready to move the battery controller outboard to the P6 work site for installation

Koch is now off the #Canadarm2 and translating over to Meir so they can both walk the new BCDU over to its installation location.
