US EVA-52: Going into today's EVA, flight controllers operating the lab's robot arm already had removed 4 of the 6 older batteries from IEA slots 1, 3, 5 and 6 and installed 3 of the new units in slots 1, 3 and 5; 2 of the older batteries remain in place in slots 2 and 4

Astronauts moving along the ISS truss to segment P4, where the 4A and 2A solar arrays are attached. The power fr om these arrays flows through the Integrated Electronics Assembly (IEA) on P4 wh ere the batteries are.

6 мин. назад

Today's work involves replacing the old NiH2 batteries for the 4A solar array with new Li-ion batteries .

5 мин. назад

The new batteries were delivered on the Japanese Konoutori 7 cargo ship. Its External Pallet EP7 was extracted from the ship and attached to the truss.

The usual plan is to do the battery replacement while the Kounotori HTV was still at the station and have the EP reloaded on it before departure. The Soyuz MS-10 launch abort delayed the spacewalk and messed up this plan - K7 is long gone but EP7 is still there

On Mar 19-20 four old batteries were removed from P4 IEA 4A using the Dextre arm. Three were stored on empty slots on EP7 and one is stashed on the Dextre arm's EOTP storage point. Three new batteries were moved from EP7 and installed on IEA 4A.

Now the astronauts will take two `adapter plates' , 0005 and 0006, from the EP7 to empty IEA 4A slots 6 and 4.

40 сек. назад

They will connect cables from the already-robotically-installed new batteries 0010 and 0006 (in slots 5 and 3) to the adapter plates.

Two old batteries will then be moved to sit on top of the newly installed adapter plates, freeing up two more slots, one of which will then be fillter by a third adapter plate.

Hagye now has removed adapter 5 from EP7 slot A and attached it to his tether. McClain will now get adapter 6 from EP7 slot B, and then they will go over to the P4 truss to install them
