Technicians process the Sentinel-6B spacecraft at the the Astrotech Space Operations payload processing facility at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025.
USSF 30th Space Wing

The Sentinel-6B spacecraft recently made a crucial transition in its prelaunch journey when technicians transferred the spacecraft from the NASA hangar to the Astrotech Space Operations payload processing facility at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, on Sept. 24. After the move, technicians removed the satellite from its transport container and began processing activities.
At the Astrotech facility, Sentinel-6B will undergo detailed inspections and tests, including calibrations, functional tests, solar array checks, and fueling in a clean room designed to keep it free from contamination. This processing phase is essential to verify that every system meets the rigorous standards required for the mission — measuring global sea level, ocean state, and monitoring atmospheric temperatures with extraordinary precision. Sentinel-6B will extend the gold-standard sea level record into its fourth decade, building on the legacy of its twin, Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich and Jason-series satellite missions pioneered by NASA. Every milestone is a step closer to extending our view of Earth's changing seas.
NASA is targeting launch no earlier than November on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
NASA, working in partnership with ESA (European Space Agency), EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales), is working to ensure that Sentinel-6B achieves its mission to provide vital data for Earth science, storm forecasting, coastal planning, and more to benefit people around the globe.

Sentinel-6B
SpaceX is targeting Sunday, November 16 for launch of NASA's Sentinel-6B mission from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Liftoff is targeted for 9:21 p.m. PT.
A live webcast of this mission will begin about one hour prior to liftoff, which you can watch here and on X @SpaceX. You can also watch the webcast on the X TV app.
This will be the third flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously supported two Starlink missions. Following stage separation, the first stage will land on Landing Zone 4 (LZ-4) at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Sentinel-6B will use radar to bounce signals off of the ocean surface to deliver continuous ocean topography measurements. The mission also will collect high-resolution vertical profiles of temperature to assess temperature changes in Earth's atmosphere and improve weather prediction models. It will take over from Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, a twin of Sentinel-6B, which Falcon 9 launched five years ago on November 21, 2020...

Sentinel-6B: Extending the Legacy (NASA Mission Trailer)
  NASA
NASA and its U.S. and international partners have teamed up to launch a new Earth-observing satellite called Sentinel-6B that will measure sea surface height of most of the planet's ocean.
These observations will help build an accurate picture of local and global sea levels to support weather and storm forecasting, secure coastal property and infrastructure, and help optimize commercial activities such as shipping and undersea pipeline operations.

Sentinel-6B will be the latest in a series of satellites dating back to 1992 that have created a more-than-30-year record of sea level rise around the globe. It's part of the Copernicus Sentinel-6/Jason-Continuity of Service (CS) mission, which in 2020 launched Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich. As its twin, Sentinel-6B will continue measuring sea levels down to roughly an inch for about 90% of Earth's ocean.

The Copernicus Sentinel-6/Jason-CS mission was jointly developed by NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), EUMETSAT (the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), with funding
support from the European Commission and technical support from the French space agency CNES (Centre National d'Études Spatiales).

Sentinel-6B will launch from Vandenberg's Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket no earlier than Nov. 16, 2025.

I am expecting the "spiraling" effect to be visible in the pink outlined region of the orbital track post de-orbit burn.
This is done in preparation for upper-stage disposal. The Falcon-9 upper-stage will passivate it's remaining propellant and perform a spin-stabilization maneuver for a predictable re-entry attitude.
