SpaceX plans its second launch of the week from Florida's Space Coast Thursday, when a Falcon 9 rocket is set to blast off from pad 39A at 8:46 a.m. EDT (1246 GMT) with 60 more Starlink Internet satellites.

The mission comes less than four days after a Falcon 9 rocket darted off another Cape Canaveral launch pad with Argentina's SAOCOM 1B radar observation satellite.

The 229-foot-tall (70-meter) Falcon 9 rocket is standing on pad 39A this evening as SpaceX preps for the early morning countdown.

There's an 80 percent chance of acceptable weather for the launch Thursday morning.

Thursday's mission will mark the 101st launch in SpaceX's history, and the 93rd flight of SpaceX's workhorse Falcon 9 launcher. It will be the 16th launch by SpaceX so far this year.

The 60 Starlink satellites on-board will join 653 others launched on 11 Falcon 9 rockets since May 2019, nudging SpaceX closer to offering commercial broadband services.

SpaceX eventually plans to launch thousands of Starlink satellites, but the first tranche of Starlinks will number 1,440 spacecraft, according to Jonathan Hofeller, SpaceX's vice president of Starlink and commercial sales.

Each flat-panel Starlink satellite weighs about a quarter-ton, and they're stacked on top of the Falcon 9 rocket for deployment around 15 minutes after liftoff.

The Falcon 9 rocket will fly northeast from Florida's Space Coast to place the 60 Starlink satellites into an elliptical transfer orbit ranging in altitude between 132 miles and 243 miles (243 and 313 kilometers), with an inclination of 53 degrees to the equator.

Once in orbit, the Starlink satellites will extend solar panels and activate krypton ion thrusters to begin raising their orbit to the Starlink network's operational shell roughly 341 miles (550 kilometers) above Earth.
