The Ariane 5's countdown was aborted moments after ignition. The Vulcain 2 main engine, chugging liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellants, is supposed to go through an automated health check before computers give the command to ignite the Ariane 5's solid rocket boosters for liftoff.

Luce Fabreguettes, Arianespace's executive vice president of missions, operations and purchasing, said the Ariane 5 rocket and its payloads -- Intelsat 37e and BSAT 4a -- are safe.
"We had an aborted launch," she said. "Everything is fine. The launcher, the satellites are ok. We will be analyzing the problem to be able to launch again as soon as possible. I would, of course, like to apologize to our customers for this delay. Thank you to B-SAT and SSL. Thank you to Intelsat and Boeing for their understanding. We will return to flight very soon, and we will be launching again as soon as possible."
