TEHRAN, May 14 (MNA) – Aerospace Industry Organization Director Mehdi Farahi announced on Monday that Iran plans to send the Fajr (Dawn) satellite into space on May 23, the day that negotiators from Iran and the six major powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) will meet in Baghdad for nuclear talks.

The Fajr satellite is a reconnaissance satellite powered by solar energy.

Иран приурочил запуск спутника к переговорам с Западом

Иран запустит четвертый в своей истории искусственный спутник Земли 23 мая - в день возобновления переговоров о ядерной программе, сообщает Agence France-Presse. Спутник, получивший названием "Фаджр" ("Рассвет"), выведет на орбиту ракета "Сафир Б1" (Safir-B1), сделанная на основе баллистической ракеты "Шахаб-3" (Shahab-3).

Основной задачей прибора, оборудованного раскладывающимися солнечными батареями, будет "наблюдение и измерение". Более подробная информация не разглашается. Вес спутника составит около 50 килограмм. Как ожидается, он будет вращаться на низкой орбите - между 300 и 450 километрами над поверхностью Земли. Прибор был изготовлен иранской компанией Sa-Iran, связанной с министерством обороны страны.

Ранее израильские руководители заявляли, что переговоры с Тегераном - это пустая трата времени, поскольку иранский режим не собирается приостанавливать свою ядерную программу ни при каких условиях. Iran's Defense Minister says the imminent launch of the Fajr (Dawn) satellite into the orbit proves Iran's high scientific power and its determination to continue its development programs.

Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said the satellite will be launched in late May, most probably on May 23.

"The Islamic Republic is making good progress despite all pressures and sanctions and if hegemonic powers think that they can put pressure on Iran via sanctions, they are in fact squandering their own opportunities," he added.

The minister said measures taken by some Western countries cannot deprive Iran of its growth and development opportunities.

Vahidi said the fact that Iran launches satellites using its own satellite carriers proves that exerting pressure on the country has been futile.

On May 13, Vahidi announced Iran would soon launch its indigenous Fajr satellite, which is a reconnaissance satellite powered by solar energy.

Fajr satellite will reportedly be placed in elliptical orbit of 400 km in radius, and will remain in space for a year and a half.[/size]

Iran is poised to launch a new satellite into space on Wednesday (May 23), a mission that if successful would mark the country's first flight of a spacecraft capable of maneuvering in orbit, experts say.

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) announced Monday that Iran is set to launch a satellite called Fajr (or "Dawn") atop a Safir 1B rocket on a mission to demonstrate the country's first use of a maneuverable spacecraft in orbit.

The satellite is likely small since the 30-ton Safir 1B rocket is capable of launching only lightweight payloads into low-flying orbits, the U.S. science-oriented non-profit group stated.

"The pace of the country's growth and development has increased, and launching satellites in short intervals indicates Iran's [high] scientific capability," Iran's Defense Minister, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, told the country's Press TV news agency.  

The launch, which is scheduled for the same day Iran meets with United Nations officials in Baghdad to review the country's nuclear program, will go on as planned despite any Western sanctions or pressures, he added.

Press TV stated the Fajr satellite is a reconnaissance craft designed to observe the Earth from an altitude of 186 miles (300 km) for a year and a half.

A successful launch Wednesday would mark Iran's second space mission of 2012. In February, the Iranian Space Agency launched a small Earth-observation satellite in a flight that also used a Safir 1B rocket.

According to UCS Senior Scientist Laura Grego, Iran's Fajr satellite launch has been delayed since October 2011, apparently due to the need for more testing. The satellite is equipped with a cold gas thruster system to maneuver in space.

"This maneuver will boost the lifetime for the satellite," Grego wrote in the UCS blog "All Things Nuclear." Iran's previous satellites were able to stay in orbit only a few months before atmospheric drag pulled them out of orbit, but Iran has said Fajr will orbit for a year and a half."

The new satellite is reportedly equipped with an Iranian-built global positioning satellite system that will enable Iranian space officials to track its flight, Grego explained. While the exact intended altitude and mission length of the Fajr satellite is unclear, the spacecraft is apparently designed to snap photos of Earth with a resolution of between 1,650 feet to 3,300 feet (500 to 1,000 meters), she added.

Iran has launched three satellites to date, including its first indigenous satellite, Omid, in 2009. In 2010, the country launched another satellite and a capsule containing turtles, a rat and a worm into space.

In 2011, Iran reportedly attempted to launch a live monkey into space, but the rocket failed to reach space.

Western critics have expressed some concern over the potential military applications of Iran's rocket program since boosters developed to reach space could also be used as long-range ballistic missiles.

Iran has denied such concerns and stated that the country intends to launch a manned mission by 2019.[/size]

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony marking construction of a coastal waterway in Ramsar, west of Mazandaran province, IRNA reported.
\"Iran is also to launch some heavy vessels in June, Vahidi said. Pointing to construction of the costal waterway in Ramsar, he said Iran has always urged the Caspian Sea littoral countries to look at the sea as a Sea of peace and Friendship and not a military waterway.

An Iranian official has announced that the country is set to launch a high resolution student satellite tasked with taking images of the earth.

Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli said the satellite is part of a project by Tehran's Sharif University of Technology and will be launched in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 2012) via the indigenous Safir (Ambassador) B-1 satellite carrier.

He added that the satellite's high precision equipment and 12.5-meter resolution capability make it very suitable for taking photographs.

Fazeli said more than 100 students, alumni and faculty members have contributed to the design and construction of the microsatellite, which weighs 50 kg and fits in a 40 x 40 x 40 cm cube.

Iran is also set to launch its indigenous Fajr (Dawn) satellite, which is said to be for reconnaissance purposes powered by solar energy, in June.[/size]

TEHRAN – The director of Iran Space Agency announced on Saturday that the domestically manufactured Fajr (Dawn) satellite is undergoing final tests.
 
Hamid Fazeli also said that the Fajr satellite will be launched into orbit aboard the Safir B1 rocket after successfully undergoing final tests.
 
The Safir B1 satellite carrier rocket is the upgraded version of the Safir A1 rocket that enjoys more propulsion power compared to its predecessor.
 
The satellite was scheduled to be sent into space on May 23, but its launch was delayed because it was decided that the satellite should undergo additional tests.  
 
The Fajr, which is Iran's first new-generation satellite, will be the fourth domestically manufactured satellite to be put into orbit.  
 
The satellite weighs about 50 kilograms and will orbit the earth at an altitude of up to 400 kilometers. It is able to remain in space for a year and a half. The Fajr is also equipped with special micro-motors which enable it to change orbits.    
 
On February 3, Iran successfully launched its third domestically manufactured satellite, named the Navid (Promise), into orbit. On February 8, Iran received the first image sent by the Navid satellite.
 
Iran launched its first domestically manufactured satellite, called Omid (Hope), into orbit on February 2, 2009. The Rasad (Observation) satellite was also sent into space On June 17, 2011.

On May 23, the Fajr satellite, a reconnaissance satellite developed by the MoD and Armed Forces Logistics, did not reach orbit due to a launch vehicle failure. Needless to say, the local media never reported this failure. Other planned satellites are Tolou, Zafar, Mesbah-2, Besharat, and Pars Sepher with little information on their payloads or launch dates.

I thought the following item from the 19 Sept issue of Jane's Defence Weekly, written by Nick Hansen of Stanford, would be of considerable interest to fpspacers.
 
It is derived from a much longer article about the Iranian rocket prog.  in Jane's Intelligence Review. Two pics of the pad before and after are included.
 
"Iran covered up a failed satellite launch earlier this  year, IHS Jane's can reveal. Iranian officials announced that the Safir-1B  satellite launch vehicle (SLV) would be launched on 23 May, but subsequently announced that it had been delayed for up to 10 months.  

"Contrary to these statements, DigitalGlobe satellite  imagery of Iran's SLV pad on different dates shows that a launch  occurred around that time. The pad was clean on 18 May, but imagery from 21  June indicates that a launch took place between those dates. There is a  V-shaped blast scar on the pad that is identical to those seen after the three  previous Safir launches."

That article also failed to mention the 17 August 2008 failure of the first Safir satellite launch.

The News from Pakistan on 29 May said

"Iran announced Tuesday it has delayed the launch of an experimental observation satellite that was supposed to have happened a week ago, saying it would now take place sometime within the next 10 months."

The Iran Daily Brief gave an explanation for the delay on 6 July

"Fathollah Karami member of the Aerospace Technology Development Committee said, "The reason for the delay in the launch of Fajr (dawn) satellite is that special micro-motors are being used to create orbit-changing capability... The Fajr satellite is much different than the Omid, Rasad, and Navid satellites in that the (Fajr) satellite we have used micro-motors that provide orbit-changing capability."

The last news I have on Fajr is from the Tehran Times on 21 July, which said

"The director of Iran Space Agency announced on Saturday that the domestically manufactured Fajr (Dawn) satellite is undergoing final tests. Hamid Fazeli also said that the Fajr satellite will be launched into orbit aboard the Safir B1 rocket after successfully undergoing final tests."

Until we have some sort of confirmation from countries that monitor ballistic missile launchers (like the US or Russia), Fajr is still waiting to be launched.

И ни по первому, ни по второму нет достоверной открытой информации. Есть ссылки на статьи в Jane's Defence Weekly от 19 сентября и 21 ноября где со ссылками на коммерческие спутниковые снимки пытаются доказать наличие следов от пусков, проведенных с единственной имеющейся пока стартовой площадки в Семнане между 18 мая и 21 июня и между 22 сентября и 25 октября. В сети их, насколько я понимаю, нет, так что оценить доказательность снимков невозможно. Джонатан МакДауэлл видел первую пару и склонился к признанию аварийного пуска. В одном из китайских сетевых изданий приведена такая фотография:



Есть также уточняющие публикации, в которых, в частности, фигурирует дата 23 мая. Есть туманные ссылки на данные американской системы ПРН, но "мы их вам не покажем". Официальных заявлений правительства какой бы то ни было страны (самого Ирана, США, России, Китая) -- нет. Ссылок на "источник, пожелавший остаться неизвестным" -- и то нет. Так что я бы побоялся *внезапно* признавать две иранские аварии. Информации пока недостаточно.

Для второй предполагаемой аварии названа дата 22 сентября. Утверждается, что в этот день спутник компании DigitalGlobe зафиксировал заключительный этап подготовки к пуску, а 25 октября -- следы взрыва на стартовой площадке.

IHS Jane's Defence Weekly has now reported clear photographic evidence of  a catastrophic launch failure, probably on 22 Sept. The payload was "probably a Fajr satellite".
 
 According to Nick Hansen of  Stanford, DigitalGlobe satellite imagery taken on 22 September showed the final stages of launch preparations, indicating the launch attempt took place later that day or soon afterwards.
  
 He notes: "The next available satellite image, taken on 25 October, reveals striking damage. Analysis of the burn patterns indicates the rocket failed moments after its ignition, toppled southward onto the pad and exploded. It is likely that it triggered explosions and fires in the umbilical tower and nearby vehicles. Tyre tracks lead from the pad to a nearby bermed pen, where the burned-out TEL has been towed. The hydraulic fluid used to hoist and lower the umbilical tower also appears to have burned, destroying the wiring and piping needed to operate that apparatus."

For third time in 2 years, 'Iran fails to launch satellite'

For the third time in two years, Iran failed in an attempt to launch a satellite into space, western intelligence sources said Tuesday.

Iran was attempting to launch a home-produced satellite with photographic capabilities, but the rocket carrying it failed to perform as expected, and all contact with both the rocket and the satellite were lost after launch, according to the sources, quoted by Israel's Channel 2.

Iran attempted the launch in secret about 10 days ago, and has been trying to cover up the failure, but the launch was registered by the western intelligence agencies, the report said.

News of the failed launch came on the day that Iran and the so-called P5+1 powers resumed negotiations over Iran's controversial nuclear program, and the day after Israel successfully tested a new long-range missile interceptor in a joint drill with the US.

Еще одна авария космического носителя в Иране?

Как сообщает израильская газета Times of Israel, в начале февраля нынешнего года неудачей закончилась попытка Ирана запустить свой очередной спутник. Никаких доказательств этого факта издание не приводит.

Многие специалисты склонны согласится с данной информацией. В последнее время из Ирана неоднократно поступали заявления о грядущем запуске спутника "Фаджр" (Fajr). Называлась даже конкретная дата - 2 февраля. Но о состоявшемся пуске сообщений не поступало. Это и заставило сделать предположение, что старт завершился аварией носителя.
