Прошел слушок, что собирались все таки переносить на февраль, но взъерепенилась Лавочка и настояла на пуске в декабре

Пуск 28-го. РБ Фрегат находится в заправленном состоянии уже с сентября. Есть определённые ограничения со стороны главного конструктора на допуск к пуску после хранения его в таком состоянии. Так что желание запустить быстрее понятно.

Не надо фантазировать в соседней ветке про Фобос, что это как то связано с последней аварией... :x

Globalstar swaps for healthy satellite before next launch[/size]

Struggling with recurring problems with satellite momentum wheels, Globalstar exchanged one of six mobile communications spacecraft set to launch in December with a spare platform to ensure it does not succumb to an issue that has knocked one of the company's newest satellites out of service.

 Officials with Globalstar and Thales Alenia Space, the satellite's manufacturer, decided on the change-out after reviews showed it might be affected by an issue with its momentum wheels, which maintain the orientation of the craft in space.

The launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan is scheduled for no earlier than Dec. 25 aboard a Soyuz rocket.

Globalstar subscribers use the satellite network to make mobile phone calls and data transmissions, especially in rural zones where terrestrial coverage is spotty or non-existent.

The U.S.-based company is in the midst of a four-launch campaign to replenish its mobile communications fleet with 24 new satellites. But one of six spacecraft launched in October 2010 is out of service after two of its momentum wheels stopped functioning.

Another six satellites launched in July also show early signs of problems with momentum wheels, even after extra inspections and repairs before liftoff.

"We have two wheels from the first batch which are in degraded operations," said Tony Navarra, president of global operations for Globalstar Inc. "They continue to operate, but they have increased friction torque. Then we have two in batch two, which were launched in July, that have increased friction torque."

Six more satellites were due to launch in October, but the failure of a Soyuz rocket in August shuffled the flight manifest, punting the Globalstar mission to early December.

The mission was delayed again to late December as officials opted to replace a satellite with another craft already at the launch site for the subsequent flight in 2012.

 "The delay that took from July to the late December date was to make certain that all the momentum wheels were flight-worthy," Navarra said Thursday. "We did have to swap out one satellite which is in Baikonur with another satellite which was already there for the fourth launch."

Two of the six satellites for the fourth launch of Globalstar's second-generation network are already at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The final four vehicles will be shipped from the Thales factory in Rome to Kazakhstan later this month, Navarra said.

Globalstar says that launch is yet to be scheduled, but it's expected to occur in the first few months of 2012.

While engineers inspected satellites awaiting launch at Baikonur, officials developed software to save the affected spacecraft already in orbit 878 miles above Earth.

Globalstar and Thales signed an agreement in November to develop and implement a software solution for the satellites to operate with two functioning momentum wheels. Each craft has four wheels, but they currently need three healthy wheels to provide communications services.

"We have entered into a contract with Thales for them to design and do the actual development of new flight software that will allow us to fly the satellites with as few as two functioning momentum wheels, mag torquers and the thrusters," Navarra said in an interview with Spaceflight Now.

The software fix should allow the deactivated satellite to return to service through its 15-year design life. The solution could be used on other satellites experiencing momentum wheel issues.

Months of simulations verified the software would allow the satellites to function with reduced momentum wheel capability.

 "We have, both in Europe and here in California, simulators that effectively operate an entire satellite," Navarra said. "Through the simulation process, they developed a number of approaches to fly satellites with only two momentum wheels, and as such, made certain first through the simulators it was possible. And then afterwards, they estimated the cost to give us a proposal and delivery schedule."

"Thales Alenia Space has allocated major skilled resources to this development, which would allow Globalstar to operate the satellite even with this wheel anomaly," said Michel Fiat, chief technical officer of Thales Alenia Space. "This software, after full validation on Thales Alenia Space software and avionics test benches, will be then uploaded in flight, thanks to on board computer capability. It will also be available for other satellites, if needed, to help ensure their expected lifetime."

Globalstar wishes to procure additional satellites from Thales to be rushed into service after the momentum wheel glitches and communications degradation on aging first-generation satellites.

S-band antenna degradation on Globalstar's existing satellites has limited voice and duplex data communications since 2007. The problem has not affected Globalstar's simplex data relay and asset tracking product, according to the company.

The fresh satellites are gradually restoring two-way telephone communications through the Globalstar system.

Globalstar and Thales are in arbitration to set terms for the purchase of up to 24 more satellites.

"As soon as we have the resolution of the arbitration, which we expect to occur very late in January, I would expect us to be under contract in the first quarter of 2012," Navarra said.

Globalstar and Arianespace, the commercial Soyuz launch provider, have an option for a fifth launch of six satellites. But Globalstar has not signed a contract with any provider for further launches beyond that.[/size]

    PARIS — Mobile satellite services provider Globalstar will launch its third batch of six second-generation satellites Dec. 28, three weeks later than planned, to give satellite builder Thales Alenia Space time to replace one of the six because of suspected momentum-wheel problems, according to the satellites' builder and launch services provider.

    Covington, La.-based Globalstar said it expects to launch the last batch of six satellites in the first half of 2012. Both launches will be aboard Russian Soyuz rockets operated from Russia's Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, with launch services provided by the French-Russian Starsem company, which is part-owned by Europe's Arianespace launch consortium of Evry, France.

    The second-generation satellites, plus some of the newer spacecraft from Globalstar's first-generation constellation, together will permit Globalstar to reinstate its two-way voice service. Most of the first-generation satellites have been unable to deliver voice traffic since suffering an on-board failure likely related to radiation exposure. The decline in two-way voice service, which is Globalstar's most profitable offering, began in early 2007.

    The first two batches of second-generation satellites were launched in October 2010 and July of this year. A few of them have suffered a momentum-wheel anomaly. The planned Dec. 5 launch of the third batch was held up to permit prime contractor Thales Alenia Space of France and Italy to replace one of the satellites planned for the December launch with a satellite that had been scheduled for the last batch.

    Thales Alenia Space and Globalstar have said they are developing a software upload to be able to operate the second-generation satellites for their full 15-year service lives even if they lose the use of two of their four momentum wheels.[/size]

PARIS — Mobile satellite services provider Globalstar will delay the early December launch of a third batch of second-generation satellites by three weeks as manufacturer Thales Alenia Space swaps one of the six spacecraft with a spare untainted by a momentum-wheel defect affecting other satellites already in orbit.

"In order to reduce the risk of any possible momentum wheel issues, and based on a recommendation from Thales Alenia Space, one satellite originally scheduled for the third launch is being replaced by another spacecraft already at the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch site," Globalstar said in a statement.

Globalstar launched six satellites in October 2010 and another six in July. The defective momentum wheels, built by Charlotte, N.C.-based Goodrich Corp., have affected two of the first six satellites. Globalstar spokesman Dean Hirasawa points out, however, that only one satellite of the 12 launched is in safehold mode and unable to provide service due to the momentum wheel anomaly.

Globalstar and Thales Alenia Space announced an agreement in November that could lead to the return of the crippled second-generation telecom satellite to service, using a software fix that would adapt its current inflight configuration. Thales will implement the solution in stages in the coming months.

           На космодроме Байконур российские и иностранные специалисты ведут работы по программе «Союз-2.1а/Globalstar-2». В монтажно-испытательном корпусе площадки 112 космодрома ведется сборка космической головной части. Работы проходят в чистовой камере, принадлежащей российско-французской компании «StarSem».

           Накануне выполнялась установка блока из шести космических аппаратов Globalstar-2 на разгонный блок «Фрегат». После завершения монтажных операций, российские и европейские специалисты приступили к стыковке электрических соединений.

           Сегодня работы по сборке головной части будут продолжены. Завершением сборки должна будет стать установка головного обтекателя на сборку из спутников и разгонного блока. После этого космическая головная часть будет перевезена на площадку 31 космодрома для проведения общей сборки с ракетой-носителем.

          Запуск ракеты космического назначения «Союз-2.1» с кластером из шести космических аппаратов низкоорбитальной связи Globalstar-2 запланирован на 28 декабря.

The next cluster of second-generation Globalstar satellites to be orbited by Arianespace is ready for launch on a Soyuz vehicle that will lift off next week from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

 These six satellites have been encapsulated in their protective payload fairing during activities in the Cosmodrome's Upper Composite Integration Facility (UCIF) operated by Arianespace's Starsem affiliate.  The upper composite is now ready for transfer to the MIK launcher integration building, where it will be installed on the three-stage Soyuz using the horizontal assembly process.

The December 28 launch will be conducted by Starsem on Arianespace's behalf, and is the third of four missions contracted by Globalstar to orbit 24 of its second-generation spacecraft for the service provider's mobile satellite voice and mobile satellite handset data services.

Globalstar's second-generation satellites are trapezoidal in shape and weigh approximately 700 kg. each at liftoff.  Built by Thales Alenia Space, they are mounted on a 6.7-meter-high conical-shaped dispenser system that is integrated with the Soyuz' Fregat upper stage.  

Once the constellation of second-generation satellites is fully deployed, it will support Globalstar's mobile satellite voice and data services for commercial and government customers in more than 120 countries.

This upcoming launch will use the same basic version of the Russian-built medium-lift workhorse launcher that Arianespace has introduced at the Spaceport in French Guiana, and includes the ST-type payload fairing with a diameter of 4.1 meters and an overall length of 11.4 meters.  

The previous two Baikonur Cosmodrome missions with Globalstar's second-generation satellites were performed in July of this year and in October 2010.

   23 декабря в монтажно-испытательном корпусе площадки 31 космодрома расчеты предприятий ракетно-космической промышленности приступили к общей сборке ракеты космического назначения. К «пакету» из первой и второй ступеней ракеты-носителя «Союз-2.1а» пристыковывается блок из третьей ступени ракеты-носителя и космической головной части, состоящей в свою очередь из разгонного блока  «Фрегат» с кластером космических аппаратов «Глобалстар-2» под головным обтекателем.

    По завершении механических работ будет проведена стыковка электрических соединений и их проверка.

    Вечером на космодроме состоится заседание Государственной комиссии, на котором будут подведены итоги работ по подготовке к пуску и принято решение о вывозе ракеты-носителя «Союз-2.1а» на стартовый комплекс. Вывоз планируется осуществить 25 декабря.

Запуск с космодрома Байконур шести американских спутников связи "Глобалстар-2" (Globalstar-2), планировавшийся на 28 декабря, скорее всего будет отложен из-за нештатной ситуации с выводом на орбиту спутника двойного назначения "Меридиан", сообщил РИА Новости источник в ракетно-космической отрасли.
