По картинкам у него стыковочная труба-камера не менее 3 метров, а нельзя придумать было другую компоновку. Например стыковка сразу за креслами экипажа, а освободившееся место использовать как нибудь по другому? Экипаж у него при посадке в корабль заходит не через корму, почему там не сделать стыковочный узел.

BROOMFIELD - Some 9NEWS tippers couldn't quite believe what they were seeing: a spaceplane soaring through the skies over Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.

This spaceplane was no UFO.

It was the Dream Chaser Orbital Crew Vehicle being developed by the Sierra Nevada Corporation in Louisville.

Sierra Nevada engineers were seen checking the spacecraft just moments after testing the vehicle's aerodynamic performance by suspending it under an Erickson Sky Crane helicopter.

The Dream Chaser is being developed as part of a NASA program to provide a commercial vehicle for use in low-Earth orbit. Company officials hope to have the Dream Chaser, which began development in 2005, operational in 2014 to ferry crews and cargo to and from the International Space Station.

On Thursday, Sierra Nevada executives are planning to brief reporters on how the aerodynamic testing went at their company headquarters in Louisville.

Narrator: Sierra Nevada Corporation's Dream Chaser flight vehicle recently passed one of its most complex tests to date with a successful captive-carry demonstration near the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Colorado.

Backdropped by skyscraping summits, an Erickson Air-Crane helicopter lifted the full-scale spacecraft to verify proper aerodynamic flight performance.

Data from the captive-carry will help the company work toward an even more ambitious free-flight test, where the spacecraft will be dropped to evaluate the landing phase of a mission.

It's all part of proving the company's Dream Chaser could one day be capable of transporting astronauts to and from the International Space Station for NASA's Commercial Crew Program.

Говорят прошли PDR, т.е. рассмотрение в NASA. Были включены все элементюи: РН и ее интерфейс, т.е. система отделения и переходник, наземка, посадка и спасение, рассчеты по ПН и пр. Теперь будет детальное проектирование агрегатов и систем, и совместное тестирование прототипов в сборе. Только бы теперь прототип не кокнули при на сбросе. При его посадочной скорости все разлетится в щепки при малейшей проблеме, скажем если шина лопнет.

Помнится в соседней ветке кто-то спрашивал, зачем вообще нужен тест без сброса. Оказалось, что связка вертолета и ДримЧейзера развила горизонтальную скорость в 90 узлов, или 166 км/ч.

Mr Sirangelo noted that the testing will involve numerous runs and could involve a variety of carrier aircraft, starting with helicopters, later with other aircraft – such as White Knight Two. These initial tests will be uncrewed, to be followed by crewed tests.............

А кто им их даст? Боинг что ли? Так, они за это попросят куда более всей стоимости дримчэйсера

Гибридные двигатели, аналогичные Space Ship One/Two... Я кроме того что они используют резину и закись азота ничего про них не знаю.
У кого-то есть информация? Они допускают множественный пуск?

"Основные двигатели" сего чуда. Пишут что их собитаются использовать и как SAS, и для довыведения.

Ну, оказывается, HTPB - далеко не новинка, и используется японцами в M-5/Mu-5 уже с 1997-го года. И Хаябусу на этом полимер-алюминиевом тополиве выводили.
