Ariane 5, Soyuz, Vega: Three world-changing launch vehicles[/size]

After confirming its world leadership in 2011, Arianespace is now ramping up for operations in 2012. It aims to carry out seven Ariane 5 launches, five Soyuz launches and the first Vega launch.

Three launchers operating from the equator

With Ariane 5, Soyuz and Vega all operating from the Guiana Space Center (CSG) in French Guiana, not far from the equator, Arianespace offers both commercial and government customers the best launch Service & Solutions in the world.

Arianespace is the prime contractor for launch operations at the Guiana Space Center, calling on outstanding teams combining multidisciplinary and highly specialized expertise to operate these three launchers from a single equatorial launch site. This situation generates synergies to guarantee both efficiency and performance.

Nine successful launches, 29 satellites in orbit

Arianespace carried out five Ariane 5 missions in 2011, orbiting nine payloads, including eight communications satellites (out of 16 launched worldwide) and the Johannes Kepler ATV (Automated Transfer Vehicle), the heaviest payload ever orbited by Ariane 5, at more than 20 metric tons. With 46 successful launches in a row, spanning nine years, Ariane 5 is the uncontested world champion of heavy-lift launchers.

On October 21, 2011, Arianespace opened another new chapter in the history of space, with the first launch of the Soyuz rocket from the Guiana Space Center. Arianespace performed four Soyuz launches in 2011, two from CSG and two from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, via the Starsem joint venture, orbiting a total of 20 payloads.

The company will post total revenues of about €985 million in 2011, and expects to reach break-even.

Record backlog

Arianespace enjoyed an equally impressive year in terms of orders booked.

The company confirmed its world leadership by signing ten Ariane 5 contracts for geostationary satellites, out of a total of 21 open to competition, and one contract for a dedicated launch.

Arianespace also signed one new contract for a Soyuz launch from CSG, and the first two launch contracts for the Vega rocket.
At January 1, 2012, Arianespace's backlog of orders reached a new record of €4.5 billion, including 21 Ariane 5 launches (30 geostationary satellites and six dedicated launches), 15 Soyuz launches (13 from CSG, two from Baikonur) and two Vega launches. This backlog guarantees the company over three years of business.

Challenges for 2012

Arianespace has set a target of seven Ariane 5 launches in 2012, including the Edoardo Amaldi ATV3, scheduled for March 9. It also plans five Soyuz launches, three from the Guiana Space Center and two from Baikonur, via Starsem.

Arianespace teams are working with their counterparts from the European Space Agency (ESA), the Guiana Space Center and industry to prepare the first launch of the new Vega light rocket, which will orbit the Lares and AlmaSat-1 satellites, along with several microsatellites.[/size]

В компании сообщили, что в 2012 году будут реализованы семь пусков тяжелых ракет-носителей Ariane 5, пять российских "Союзов", относящихся к средней категории и первый старт новой легкой европейской ракеты-носителя Vega.

 Среди стартов значится и запуск третьего европейского космического грузовика Edoardo Amaldi, который должен будет 9 марта стартовать к МКС.

Запуск легкой ракеты "Вега" с космодрома Куру перенесен на 13 февраля

МОСКВА, 3 фев - РИА Новости. Запуск первой ракеты-носителя легкого класса "Вега" (Vega) с космодрома Куру во Французской Гвиане назначен на 13 февраля, говорится в сообщении Европейского космического агентства (ЕКА).

Ранее в качестве даты запуска называлось 9 февраля. Глава московского представительства ЕКА Рене Пишель подтвердил РИА Новости, что запуск действительно был перенесен, но затруднился назвать причины переноса. В сообщении ЕКА они также не уточняются.

Ранее ракета была доставлена на стартовую площадку и успешно прошла предварительную проверку всех систем. Стартовое окно для запуска 13 февраля открывается в 07.00 местного времени (14.00 мск) и продлится два часа.

По последним оценкам производителей этой аппаратуры во главе с компанией Astrium GmbH (Фридрихсхафен, Германия), оборудование не будет готово к запуску аппарата в июле 2014 года, и миссию необходимо перенести на следующее стартовое окно для запуска к Меркурию - август 2015 года.

В октябре и декабре с южно-американского космодрома были обеспечены первые два запуска. This year, beyond the first Vega flight, we plan to have six or seven Ariane 5 launches, depending on the availability of satellites this year, five Soyuz launches, three from French Guiana and two from Baikonur, because we have many Soyuz launches, and we can only do a certain number from French Guiana. So we have the next Soyuz flight on the 23rd of May to launch MetOp B, which is an Earth observation satellite for meteorology from Baikonur.

During this conference, we have announced two new contracts. One will be for the launch of Eutelsat 25B, which is a joint venture between Eutelsat and Qatar. And we are going to sign a new contract for Jabiru 1 from NewSat, which is an Australian satellite. Since the beginning of the year, we signed a huge contract with the European Commission to launch 12 more Galileo satellites, and for one Ariane 5 firm with four satellites. Today, there are 24 satellites for Galileo which are under construction, and we will launch 12 of them with six Soyuz from French Guiana - two on each Soyuz. And we will launch an Ariane 5 with four satellites.

Since the beginning of the year, we have signed three GTO contracts. The first one is for an undisclosed government customer. They want to wait for a couple of weeks before announcing it. And two others.

Disclosing that the next communication satellite GSAT-10 was ready for launch, Radhakrishnan said it would be put into orbit by a French Ariane satellite in August 2012. It will add 30 transponders to our existing capacity.
