Crew Dragon has arrived at Waypoint 1, located roughly 720 feet, or 220 meters, on the radius vector, or "R-bar," directly above the International Space Station. This is within the approach corridor to the zenith docking adapter on the station's Harmony module.

Once Cargo Dragon reaches Waypoint 2 at the 20-meter hold point, mission control will again assess the ship's health and conduct a "go/no go" poll for docking.

Cargo Dragon will make contact with the International Docking Adapter with a soft capture ring, which will bring in the capsule for a hard mate with a series of hooks to secure the spacecraft to the station. Cargo Dragon also has a set of rotary spring dampeners to lessen the shock of contact with the station.

The International Space Station will remain in attitude control with the Russian segment's thrusters throughout the docking. This is a change from Soyuz and Progress vehicles docking, during which the station goes into free drift with its attitude control functions switched off.

Once it resumes the approach, the Crew Dragon will close in on the space station to about 10 centimeters per second, or less than a quarter-mile per hour.

The space station astronauts have the ability to command a hold or abort of the docking until the so-called "Crew Hands Off Point," or CHOP, about 1.5 meters from the docking port.
