Hurley reports he has lined up the Crew Dragon spacecraft with the docking adapter on the International Space Station. He's now beginning a series of small lateral and axial maneuvers to intentionally move off the docking corridor.

This is all part of testing the astronauts' ability to take manual control of the Crew Dragon spacecraft in the event of an issue with its autonomous rendezvous system.

The Crew Dragon has resumed its approach, and is now less than 330 feet, or 100 meters, from the International Space Station. A brief hold is planned around 66 feet, or 20 meters, from the docking port.

Once Crew Dragon reaches Waypoint 2 at the 20-meter hold point, mission control will again assess the ship's health and conduct a "go/no go" poll for docking.

Crew Dragon will make contact with the International Docking Adapter with a soft capture ring, which will bring in the capsule for a hard mate with a series of hooks to secure the spacecraft to the station. Crew Dragon also has a set of rotary spring dampeners to lessen the shock of contact with the station.

The International Space Station will remain in attitude control with the Russian segment's thrusters throughout the docking. This is a change from Soyuz and Progress vehicles docking, during which the station goes into free drift with its attitude control functions switched off.

Contact and soft capture confirmed! Astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken have arrived at the International Space Station, completing a 19-hour transit from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Docking occurred at 10:16 a.m. EDT (1416 GMT) as the space station flew 262 miles over the border between China and Mongolia.

A set of 12 hooks have engaged to make a firm mechanical connection between Crew Dragon and the International Space Station.

Two umbilicals will also be mated inside the docking adapter to route power and data between the space station and Crew Dragon.
