The STPSat-4, designed, built and tested by MEIT is on board Cygnus. STPSat-4 is a 100-kg satellite for the Air Force carrying five experiments into low-earth orbit when deployed from the ISS. MEIT is proud of our employees and proud to support the Air Force.

The biggest of the group is a U.S. Air Force satellite named STPSat 4, which weighs roughly 220 pounds (100 kilograms) and will be transferred into the space station's Kibo module by astronauts the Cygnus hatch is opened. Sponsored by the military's Space Test Program, STPSat 4 will be one of the largest satellites ever deployed from the space station.

A Northrop Grumman cargo ship, dubbed the SS Alan Bean, is set to depart the International Space Station Friday, Jan. 31. Live coverage of the spacecraft's release will begin on NASA Television and the agency's website at 9:15 a.m. with release scheduled for 9:35 a.m.

With Expedition 61 Flight Engineers Andrew Morgan and Jessica Meir of NASA providing backup support, ground controllers will send commands to the Canadarm2 robotic arm to release the unpiloted cargo spacecraft after ground controllers remotely unbolt the craft from the Earth-facing port of the Unity module and maneuver it into release position.

NG-12 Cygnus delivered 8,200 pounds of science and research investigations, supplies, and hardware to the International Space Station on Saturday, Nov. 2. The investigations range from research into human control of robotics in space to reprocessing fibers for 3D printing.

The Cygnus cargo ship was released by Candarm-2 at 1436 UTC. It will release cubesats from the @nanoracks NRCSD-E dispenser sometime later today and the SEOPS Slingshot dispenser sometime tomorrow.

At 9:36am ET, @NorthropGrumman's Cygnus cargo spacecraft departed the @Space_Station. This Cygnus was named SS Alan Bean in honor of the Apollo 12 astronaut who walked on the Moon in 1969 & commanded the second Skylab crew. Watch: https://www.nasa.gov/live

Корабль Cygnus отстыковался от МКС и будет использован для запуска микроспутников

НЬЮ-ЙОРК, 31 января. /ТАСС/. Грузовой корабль Cygnus отстыковался в пятницу в 09:36 по времени восточного побережья США (17:36 мск) от Международной космической станции (МКС). Трансляция операции идет на сайте Национального управления по аэронавтике и исследованию космического пространства (NASA).

Впервые операция осуществляется дистанционно: операторы из Центра космических полетов имени Джонсона в Хьюстоне (штат Техас) управляют 17-метровым манипулятором Canadarm 2, который осуществляет отвод корабля от станции, а астронавты NASA Эндрю Морган и Джессика Меир контролируют ход операции и наблюдают за отходом корабля от станции.

Через сутки после отстыковки от МКС с корабля Cygnus с помощью пускового устройства Slingshot будут выведены на орбиты 8 микроспутников CubeSat, предназначенные для обеспечения связи и исследований атмосферы. В конце февраля по команде с Земли корабль начнет маневр торможения, сойдет с орбиты и прекратит существование в плотных слоях атмосферы.

Cygnus состыковался с МКС в начале ноября прошлого года и доставил экипажу 3720 кг грузов, в частности, экспериментальные защитные куртки AstroRad Vest, предназначенные для защиты астронавтов от потока солнечной радиации, новую электропечь Zero G Oven для экспериментов по выпечке изделий в условиях невесомости, а также оборудование для эксперимента Made In Space Recycler по переработке пластиковых отходов с помощью 3D-принтера.

Нынешний полет корабля Cygnus (с лат. "лебедь"; назван в честь одноименного созвездия) - первый в рамках нового контракта NASA с корпорацией Northrop Grumman, в рамках которого в период до 2024 года будет осуществлено минимум шесть запусков грузовых кораблей. В рамках предыдущего контракта было осуществлено 11 запусков к МКС, один запуск был неудачным.

На МКС сейчас работают россияне Александр Скворцов и Олег Скрипочка, американцы Эндрю Морган, Кристина Кук и Джессика Меир, а также представитель Европейского космического агентства итальянец Лука Пармитано.

U.S. Cygnus Space Freighter Departs Station After 88 Days

Northrup Grumman's Cygnus cargo spacecraft departed the International Space Station's at 9:36 a.m. EST after Expedition 61 Flight Engineers Andrew Morgan and Jessica Meir of NASA commanded its release from the Canadarm2 robotic arm. At the time of release, the station was flying about 250 miles over the South Pacific just off the West Coast of Chile.

For this mission, Cygnus demonstrated a new release position for departure operations and incorporated the first ground-controlled release. The new orientation allowed for easier drift away from the station's Canadarm2 robotic arm.

Within 24 hours, Cygnus will begin its secondary mission deploying a series of payloads. The departing spacecraft will move a safe distance away from the space station before deploying a series of CubeSats: HuskySat-1 (University of Washington), SwampSat II (University of Florida), EdgeCube (Sonoma State University), and CIRis (Utah State University).

Northrop Grumman flight controllers in Dulles, Virginia, will initiate its deorbit and execute a safe, destructive reentry into Earth's atmosphere at the end of February. 

The next Cygnus is set to launch to station on Feb. 9 from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia carrying another batch of research.

The spacecraft arrived on station November 2 delivering cargo under NASA's Commercial Resupply Services contract.
