Транспортный пилотируемый корабль (ТПК) «Союз МС-08» 23 марта 2018 года успешно пристыковался к стыковочному узлу малого исследовательского модуля (МИМ2) «Поиск» российского сегмента Международной космической станции (МКС).

Программой полёта была предусмотрена двухсуточная схема сближения корабля со станцией. Сближение выполнялось в автоматическом режиме под контролем специалистов Главной оперативной группы управления российским сегментом МКС в Центре управления полётами (ЦУП) и российских членов экипажей транспортного корабля и станции. Стыковка была произведена в 22:40 мск.

Ракета-носитель «Союз-ФГ» с ТПК «Союз МС-08» стартовала 21 марта 2018 года в 20:44 мск. Корабль доставил на МКС участников длительной экспедиции МКС-55/56: российского космонавта Олега АРТЕМЬЕВА (РОСКОСМОС), американских астронавтов Эндрю ФОЙСТЕЛА (NASA) и Ричарда АРНОЛЬДА (NASA).

В настоящее время экипажи ТПК и МКС выполняют операции по подготовке к открытию переходных люков и переходу экипажа корабля на станцию.

The crew watered the Veg-03 plants and continued with the photo-documentation of plant growth for the Veg-03 investigation. Veg-03 supports the proof-of concept for the Veggie plant growth chamber and the planting pillows. Future long duration space missions will require a fresh food supply grown in space to supplement crew diets.

A 53S crewmember completed a daily sleep log entry this morning upon waking to record his sleep patterns and wakefulness. The Lighting Effects investigation studies the impact of the change from fluorescent light bulbs to solid-state light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with adjustable intensity and color and aims to determine if the new lights can improve crew circadian rhythms, sleep, and cognitive performance. Results from this investigation also have major implications for people on Earth who use electric lights.

US Extravehicular Activity (EVA) 49 Preparation:

Today the crew configured GoPro cameras, terminated the final MetOx Regeneration cycle, degassed a Cargo Water Container (CWC) for Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) use, and terminated Battery Stowage Assembly (BSA) operations in preparation for next week's EVA. Additionally, the crew completed a Robotics On-Board Training (RoBOT) session to review procedures for next week's EVA.

Yesterday, ground specialists began a Force Movement Sensor (FMS) fine characterization of the SSRMS Latching End Effector (LEE) A. Overnight during the test, a FMS Cross Check error was triggered requiring the teams to stand down for the night. The FMS characterization will resume later this afternoon after new parameters are calculated for the test.

The Soyuz MS-08 spacecraft docked to Poisk module of the International Space Station at 3:40 p.m. EDT while both spacecraft were flying over Serbia.

Following their two-day trip, NASA astronauts Drew Feustel and Ricky Arnold and cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev of Roscosmos docked to the International Space Station. Their arrival restores the station's crew complement to six as they wait to join Scott Tingle of NASA, Expedition 55Commander Anton Shkaplerov of Roscosmos and Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The hatches between the two spacecraft will open following standard pressurization and leak checks. Watch the hatch opening and welcome ceremony on NASA TV and the agency's website beginning at 5 p.m. EDT.
