Миссия запустит 7 полезных нагрузок в рамках программы Космических сил США от нескольких правительственных агентств, которые представляют собой эксперименты, предназначенные для демонстрации новой модульной спутниковой платформы и адаптивных радиочастотных технологий. Более точная информация о полезных нагрузках не раскрывается, известно только, что они будут запущены на 500 км орбиту с наклонением 45°: "Орбита, на которую не выходит ни одна другая система запуска с западного побережья США", — заявляет компания.

Название запуска - Straight Up, вдохновлено международным хитом Полы Абдул - Straight Up с её дебютного альбома Forever Your Girl. Выпущенный на Virgin Records 21 июня 1988 года, это был самый успешный дебютный альбом на момент его выхода.

For Virgin Orbit's "Straight Up" mission, the "Cosmic Girl" aircraft took off from the Mojave Air and Spaceport in California, on 2 July 2022, at 05:49 UTC (1 July, 22:49 PST). "Cosmic Girl" traveled off the Pacific coast to about 9.6 km (31500ft) in altitude, then released the LauncherOne rocket that launched seven satellites for the U.S. Space Force's STP-S28A mission, at 06:53 UTC (1 July, 23:53 PST).

We now have USSF TLEs for all 8 objects from the LauncherOne mission. Object C is probably the upper stage, which seems to have lowered its perigee from  490 to 430 km to deplete propellant and reduce its lifetime.
