T-minus 5 minutes. Today's mission will carry into orbit the Amazonia 1 Earth observation satellite, the most advanced spacecraft entirely designed and built in Brazil. The 1,400-pound satellite is joined by 18 smaller satellites, including 12 SpaceBEE data relay nodes -- each the size of a slice of bread -- from California-based Swarm Technologies.

There is also a CubeSat developed by Mexican university students on the PSLV mission, plus five Indian nanosatellites from academic institutions and the Indian military.

Standing by for cutoff of the fourth stage engines.

02/28/2021 08:03 Stephen Clark
The twin-engine fourth stage, burning a mix of liquid hydrazone and nitrogen tetroxide, has ignited to accelerate the Amazonia 1 satellite and 18 secondary payloads into orbit.

02/28/2021 08:03 Stephen Clark
The PSLV's third stage has burned out and is now coasting for about two minutes. Ignition of the fourth stage planned at T+plus 8 minutes, 25 seconds.

02/28/2021 08:03 Stephen Clark
The second stage engine has shut down and separated, and the third stage motor, again burning solid fuel, has ignited.

02/28/2021 08:02 Stephen Clark
The second stage Vikas engine produces about 180,000 pounds of thrust.

02/28/2021 07:59 Stephen Clark
T+plus 3 minutes. ISRO's mission director says PSLV's payload fairing has separated as planned.

02/28/2021 07:59 Stephen Clark
The PSLV's two solid rocket boosters and solid-fueled first stage have burned out and jettisoned. The second stage's liquid-fueled Vikas engine is now firing for the next two-and-a-half minutes.

Brazil's Amazonia 1 Earth observation satellite has separated from the PSLV's fourth stage in an on-target orbit, beginning a four-year mission monitoring deforestation in the Amazon.

Two more burns to come before separation of 18 secondary payloads.

PSLV-DL launches Amazonia-1 and 18 other satellites
  SciNews
For ISRO's PSLV-C51 mission, a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) in "DL" configuration launched Amazonia-1 and 18 co-passenger satellites, from the First Launch Pad (FLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota, on 28 February 2021, at 04:53 UTC (10:24 IST). Amazonia-1 is the optical earth observation satellite of National Institute for Space Research (INPE), Brazil. The 18 co-passenger satellites include four from IN-SPACe (three UNITY sats from academic institutes and One Satish Dhawan Sat from Space Kidz India) and 14 from NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).

Marcos Pontes, Brazil's minister of science, technology, innovation, and communications, says this is a "very, very happy day."
"We've been working on this satellite for many years, and this moment represents a very important (milestone), the top of all this effort made by so many people in our National Institute for Space Resarch and our Brazilian Space Agency."
"This satellite has a very important mission. First of all, it's one more satellite to monitor the country, the Amazon, and other biomes in Brazil. "As well, it represents a new era of the Brazilian industry for satellites and development in Brazil. It brings a piece, the Multi-Mission Platform, that can be used for other satellites. So this is very important, and I couldn't choose a better place to be than here in India."
Pontes, a former astronaut, said the launch is an "important step" in Brazil's relationship with India. He said he was speaking on behalf of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
"Congratulations on a beautiful launch, a beautiful rocket, and all the efforts that have been done here ... We are going to work together as allies."

02/28/2021 08:17 Stephen Clark
K. Sivan, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, confirms the primary payload on today's mission -- Amazonia 1 -- was placed in a "precise orbit."
"In this mission, India and ISRO feel extremely proud and honored and happy to launch the first satellite designed, integrated, and operated by Brazil," Sivan said. "My heartiest congratulations to the Brazilian team for this achievement. The satellite is in very good health, and solar panels are deployed, and it's functioning very nicely. Let me congratulate and compliment the entire Brazilian team."

The PSLV PS4 should have made its first restart burn and be approaching perigee at around 511 km, where it will soon make a second restart to circularize prior to deploying the rest of the payloads

28.02.2021 14:53:00
