The Antares team is ensuring the rocket is placed into a "safe" configuration after tonight's abort. This essentially backs out of the pre-launch steps performed in the final minutes of the countdown.

Once the rocket is safed, the launch team will kick off procedures to drain kerosene and liquid oxygen propellants from the first stage.

The Antares countdown was aborted at T-minus 2 minutes, 40 seconds, according to Northrop Grumman's launch conductor. NASA's Rob Navias says the abort was apparently triggered by an issue with ground equipment, and not a problem with the rocket itself.

Northrop Grumman's launch conductor says the Antares team intends to try again tomorrow at 9:16 p.m. EDT (0116 GMT), assuming problem that caused tonight's abort can be resolved in time.

If the Antares team presses ahead with a launch attempt tomorrow night, the Antares launch from Virginia would be set to occur 27 minutes before a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to blast off from Cape Canaveral with a GPS navigation satellite for the U.S. military.

НЬЮ-ЙОРК, 2 октября. /ТАСС/. Запуск ракеты-носителя Antares с грузовым кораблем Cygnus был отменен в четверг за две минуты и 21 секунду до старта. Трансляция запуска, который должен был состояться с космодрома на острове Уоллопс (штат Вирджиния) в Атлантическом океане, велась на сайте Национального управления США по аэронавтике и исследованию космического пространства (NASA).

Причины отмены на данный момент не уточняются. Cygnus должен был доставить на Международную космическую станцию (МКС) около 3,6 тонн груза: продовольствие, предметы первой необходимости, оборудование для станции и приборы для проведения научных исследований.

Этот полет Cygnus должен был стать третьим в рамках нового контракта NASA с производителем Cygnus - компанией Northrop Grumman. До 2024 года, согласно договоренностям, будет осуществлено минимум шесть запусков грузовых кораблей. В рамках предыдущего контракта было проведено 11 запусков к станции, еще один оказался неудачным.

Tonight's launch attempt of NASA commercial cargo provider Northrop Grumman's  14th resupply mission to the International Space Station has been scrubbed.

The next potential launch opportunity for Northrop Grumman's Antares rocket carrying the Cygnus cargo spacecraft would be Friday, Oct. 2, at 9:16 p.m. EDT from Virginia Space's Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. A Friday launch would air live on NASA Television and the agency's website beginning at 8:45 p.m. EDT.
