NASA and SpaceX now are targeting 7:49 p.m. EST Saturday, Nov. 14, for the launch of the first crew rotation mission to the International Space Station as part of the agency's Commercial Crew Program.

Managers of NASA's SpaceX Crew-1 mission will hold a media teleconference at 4 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 28, to discuss the upcoming launch, including results from recent testing of the Falcon 9 Merlin engines following unexpected data SpaceX noted during a recent non-NASA launch. Audio of the teleconference will stream live on the agency's website.

Briefing participants include:

  • Kathy Lueders, associate administrator, Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington
  • Steve Stich, manager, Commercial Crew Program, NASA's Johnson Space Center, Houston
  • Hans Koenigsmann, vice president, Build and Flight Reliability, SpaceX, Hawthorne, California

NASA's SpaceX Crew-1 mission will launch the agency's astronauts Michael HopkinsVictor Glover, and Shannon Walker, along with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) mission specialist Soichi Noguchi, from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy.

Crew-1 astronauts will join the Expedition 64 crew of Commander Sergey Ryzhikov, and Flight Engineers Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and NASA astronaut Kate Rubins. The arrival of Crew-1 will increase the regular crew size of the space station's expedition missions from six to seven astronauts, adding to the amount of crew time available for research.

The Crew-1 mission will launch a few days after the Nov. 10 scheduled launch of NASA's Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich mission on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, following a thorough review of launch vehicle performance.

Audio of the teleconference will stream live online at:

Всё-таки решили по короткой схеме лететь? Помню, раньше говорили про 25 часов до стыковки

Ещё перенос на недельку - и в нормальное время можно будет посмотреть, а не в три часа ночи

Занимательно наличие дублёра-командира, но не всей команды. Некий гибрид американской и русской системы?

NASA's Steve Stich says they're replacing two Falcon 9 engines on the Crew-1 booster. With a Nov. 14 launch, docking would be just 8.5 hours after launch.

SpaceX's Hans Koenigsmann: auto abort on GPS 3 satellite launch attempt was a "good" abort, preventing a hard start that could have damaged engines. Replicated the problem on test stand, linked to relief valve.

Koenigsmann said the problem was with a "masking lacquer" in the relief line. Similar to a nail polish. A few engines have that issue, he said, but others are all clean.

Stich: the 8.5-hour transit time for the Nov. 14 launch is about as short a time as they can accommodate for a Crew Dragon mission, thanks to orbital alignment. If launch slips to Nov. 15, have a 27.5-hour transit to ISS instead.

NASA's Stich lays out Crew-1 timeline:

- Crew already in soft quarantine
- Oct. 31: More stringent quarantine
- Nov. 6: Crew travels to KSC
- Nov. 9: Falcon 9 test fire
- Nov. 11: Full rehearsal
- Nov. 14: Launch
- Nov. 15: Backup opportunity at 1927 ET

On Nov. 14, 2020, NASA astronauts Mike Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker and JAXA astronaut Soichi Noguchi will launch on NASA's SpaceX Crew-1 mission bound for the International Space Station. Once there, they will perform space station upgrades, conduct science experiments to benefit life on Earth, and continue preparing humanity for future missions to the Moon -- and eventually Mars.

This is the first crew rotation mission with four astronauts flying on a commercial spacecraft, and the first including an international partner. Get on board. It's #LaunchAmerica time! (0:59)

Stich adds NASA would like to see GPS launch before Crew-1 due to another Merlin engine change. Not sure if he was referring to the lacquer issue or something else. That would mean SpaceX needs to fly at least twice (GPS and Sentinel-6) before Crew-1, which is in 17 days.

Все равно. Практически каждый пуск задержки-переносы. А погода сейчас не ахти.
