Weather conditions are unacceptable for liftoff of the Atlas V rocket in the first launch window today due to violations of the Cumulus Cloud Rule and ground winds.

This sort of hold is well within the capabilities of the Atlas V system, which routinely has two-hour launch windows. In the case of USSF7, we have two 10-minute windows spread across two hours as dictated by mission requirements.

В США заявили, что погода во Флориде мешает запуску ракеты с секретным космопланом X-37B

НЬЮ-ЙОРК, 16 мая. /ТАСС/. Неблагоприятная погода на мысе Канаверал (штат Флорида) мешает запланированному на субботу запуску тяжелой ракеты-носителя Atlas 5 с американским космопланом X-37B военного назначения. Об этом сообщила компания United Launch Alliance (ULA).

"Условия не благоприятствуют старту. Дожди идут в районе пускового комплекса. Шансы благоприятных для старта погодных условий снизились до 20%", - говорится в блоге компании.

Пуск намечается на 08:24 по местному времени (15:24 мск). Второе временное окно открывается в субботу в 17:13 мск.

Запуск проводится в интересах Космических сил США. Проект курирует спецподразделение ВВС США, занимающееся и разработкой стратегического бомбардировщика следующего поколения, который должен превосходить по своим характеристикам самолет В-2 Spirit. Информация о приборах, установленных на борту Х-37В, в том числе о содержимом грузового отсека, засекречена.

Американская корпорация Boeing приступила к созданию X-37B в 1999 году под эгидой NASA. В 2004 году программу засекретили и передали в ведение ВВС. Аппарат имеет взлетную массу почти 5 тонн, достигает 8,9 м в длину, 2,9 м в высоту. Размах его небольших треугольных крыльев составляет 4,5 м. Он оборудован панелями солнечных батарей, которые при развертывании на орбите служат источником электроэнергии. Весь полет и приземление проходят в автоматическом режиме.

To recap, the countdown to today's Atlas V launch of the United States Space Force-7 mission featuring the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle is holding at T-minus 4 minutes.

Unfavorable weather prevented liftoff during the day's first 10-minute launch window. We have retargeted liftoff for 10:13 a.m. EDT (1413 UTC) at the opening of the day's second launch opportunity.

Weather conditions remain "no go" due to violation of the Cumulus Cloud Rule and ground winds. The electric field mill rule has just returned to a "go" status.

Local weather conditions are Cape Canaveral are presently "no go" due to the rain showers streaming over the pad that violate the Cumulus Cloud Rule and high ground winds.

An updated briefing from Launch Weather Officer Jessica Williams says that current conditions are violating launch commit criteria rules for cumulus clouds and the electrical potential in the air. The ground winds are out of limits as well. Overall, the odds for the upcoming launch window offer only a 20 percent chance of becoming acceptable.
