T-minus 60 minutes. The launch autosequence has started, kicking off the first steps to begin pumping propellants into the 229-foot-tall Falcon 9 at Space Launch Complex 4-East at Vandenberg.

RP-1 kerosene will be pumped into the two-stage Falcon 9 rocket first, followed by liquid oxygen chilled to near minus 340 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 206 degrees Celsius) at T-minus 35 minutes.

The Air Force's Western Range tells the SpaceX launch team they are "go" for launch, pending clearance of a vessel somewhere downrange from Vandenberg in the Pacific Ocean.

Super-chilled, densified liquid oxygen should now be flowing into the two-stage Falcon 9 rocket.
Both stages of the launcher burn the same RP-1/liquid oxygen propellant mixture.

Today's launch will target Plane 3 of the Iridium constellation, which is designed to have 66 satellites spread out evenly in six orbital planes around Earth.

The launch is timed to the second -- 1:25:14 p.m. PDT -- to target a hole in Plane 3 where one of Iridium's aging communications satellites failed last year.

Today's mission is the second of at least eight Falcon 9 flights to deliver at least 75 next-generation satellites to replace Iridium's network with upgraded services and new spacecraft designed to operate for the next 15 years.
