The Soyuz MS-05 spacecraft that will launch three new crew members to the International Space Station has rolled out to its launch pad in Kazakhstan. The rocket was carted slowly by train from its processing facility to the pad and vertically raised to its launch position at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

Cosmonaut Sergey Ryazanskiy will command the Soyuz when it launches Friday at 11:41 a.m. EDT. He will be flanked by flight engineers Randy Bresnik from NASA and Paolo Nespoli from the European Space Agency. The trio will take a six-hour, 19-minute ride from Earth to the station's Rassvet module. NASA TV will broadcast the launch and docking activities live beginning at 10:45 a.m.

The three Expedition 52 crew members living on the space station now are moving right along with ongoing human research. Veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson continued exploring therapies that target only cancer cells. Flight Engineer Jack Fischer swabbed his mouth and body for a study tracking microbes in space. Station Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin worked life support maintenance and sampled the station's air for a quality check.

The Soyuz MS-05 spacecraft is rolled out by train, on 26 July 2017, from the MIK 112 integration facility to the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch pad 1, in Kazakhstan.

ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli, NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik and Russian commander Sergey Ryazansky are set to leave for the International Space Station from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 28 July at 15:41 GMT (17:41 CEST).

Paolo Nespoli is heading to space for a third time. His mission, named the Vita mission, is part of a barter agreement between NASA and Italy's ASI space agency involving ESA astronauts. Vita stands for Vitality, Innovation, Technology and Ability. In Italian, 'vita' means 'life', reflecting the experiments that Paolo will run and the philosophical notion of living in outer space – one of the most inhospitable places for humans.

At the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, Expedition 52-53 Soyuz Commander Sergey Ryazanskiy of Roscosmos and Flight Engineers Randy Bresnik of NASA and Paolo Nespoli of ESA (European Space Agency), and their backups, Alexander Misurkin of Roscosmos, Mark Vande Hei of NASA and Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency completed their final fit check in their Soyuz spacecraft and conducted traditional tours of Baikonur Cosmodrome facilities July 24. Ryazanskiy, Bresnik and Nespoli will launch on the Soyuz MS-05 spacecraft July 28 to the International Space Station.

At the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the Soyuz MS-05 spacecraft and its Soyuz booster are transported from the Integration Facility to the launch pad on a railcar July 26 for final preparations before launch July 28 to the International Space Station. The Soyuz MS-05 will carry Expedition 52-53 Soyuz Commander Sergey Ryazanskiy of Roscosmos and Flight Engineers Randy Bresnik of NASA and Paolo Nespoli of ESA (European Space Agency) to the orbital complex for a four-and-a-half month mission.
