The Rockot launch vehicle's automated countdown is underway, and the weather at Plesetsk is reported to be acceptable for liftoff.

The countdown clock will reach zero at 0927:30 GMT (5:27:30 a.m. EDT), the time when gyroscopes inside the Rockot booster become active. But liftoff actually occurs 14 seconds later as the 95-foot-tall (29-meter) booster fires out of its mobile launch tube at Complex 133 at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome.

Rockot's liquid-fueled first and second stages will separate around 2 minutes, 2 seconds, after liftoff, and the payload shroud covering the Sentinel 5P satellite will jettison 2 minutes, 49 seconds, into the flight.

The launcher's second stage will deploy a Breeze KM upper stage and the Sentinel 5P satellite on a suborbital trajectory at the 5-minute, 5-second point. Ignition of the Breeze KM upper stage is expected six seconds later to boost the spacecraft into a preliminary parking orbit.

Another firing is planned more than an hour into the mission, followed by separation of the Sentinel 5P satellite at 1046 GMT (6:46 a.m. EDT).

Signals from Sentinel 5P satellite should be received via a ground station in Kiruna, Sweden, around 1101 GMT (7:01 a.m. EDT) to confirm the spacecraft's status following its arrival in orbit.

Weather is confirmed green for launch, with overcast skies and light winds. All systems on-board the Sentinel 5P satellite are reported ready for launch.

The Sentinel 5P satellite is now being transitioned to internal battery power as the ground team disconnects the power umbilical feeding electricity to the spacecraft before launch.
