Finally, the first Antares/Cygnus CRS flight would occur 3-4 months after the COTS demo flight, giving a tentative timeframe of early October-early November for the first Orbital CRS flight – although November has issues fr om a flight scheduling standpoint, due to a Beta angle cut-out from Nov 2 to Nov 9, and then a period wh ere only one US crewmember will be present on the ISS (thus creating issues for Visiting Vehicle captures) from Nov 10 to Nov 25.

Only one other SpaceX flight is planned for 2013 after the SpX-2 mission, with SpX-3 scheduled to fly on October 2 and return to Earth on November 1 – a flight that could potentially cause conflict with Orbital's first CRS mission should it fly in that timeframe.

SpaceX To Refly Columbia Plant Growth Experiment

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — A plant growth experiment lost in the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia accident is being revamped for reflight to the international space station aboard the next Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) Dragon cargo ship.

The experiment, called BioTube, is intended to test if a strong magnetic field can replace gravity in influencing the direction plant roots grow in space.

"Right after the germination, the roots decide which way to grow. So the entire experiment is really interested in about the first 48 hours of how these roots grow when they are subjected to a magnetic field with no gravity," said Don Platt, president of Melbourne, Fla.-based Micro Aerospace Solutions, which is developing the revamped BioTube.

The experiment is a follow-on to one that flew on STS-107, the last flight of Columbia, which was destroyed during re-entry following a 16-day research mission. All seven astronauts aboard were killed.

"The experiment worked quite well but obviously the payload was lost," said Platt, who was previously employed by experiment developer Bionetics Corp. here.

Platt's company is now preparing the backup unit, which did not fly on Columbia, to be launched on SpaceX's third space station cargo run. NASA's launch schedule shows the mission is slated for liftoff in November.

"They've changed the seeds because of genetic mapping and what they have maps of now, so we've redone the experiment totally to fly to the international space station," Platt said.

BioTube, which is about the size of microwave oven, originally flew inside a Spacehab module in the shuttle's cargo bay. It was  part of an overall research initiative to understand how gravity-sensing systems in plants and small organisms operate.

A successful OrB-D mission will allow Orbital to press ahead to the first CRS flight, known as OrB-1, with Cygnus aiming to return to the ISS at the end of the year.

However, ongoing discussions are taking place relating to a potential conflict with the next SpaceX Dragon, which has already slipped into December. CRS-3/SpX-3 is facing delays due to what sources claim are "numerous problems" with the new Falcon 9 V1.1 launch vehicle, which is due to launch two payloads before it sends Dragon to the Station.

With CRS-3 slipping, one of the CRS missions will have to move to change its docked period to Node-2 Nadir between January 26 to February 25, 2014, L2 sources claim. Providing Orbital's OrB-D mission proceeds as planned, allowing for a December launch of OrB-1, along with what may be additional slips to CRS-3, it is likely Dragon will have to move to the 2014 slot.

F9v1.1 Status
!  New Falcon 9 version 1.1 (F9v1.1) is undergoing qualification testing currently and will be utilized on the SpX-3 mission. Two to three commercial flights including the test flight are planned prior to use of the new launch vehicle configuration for the SpX-3 flight. The F9v1.1 rocket is planned to increase the upmass capability from 800 kg to 1580 kg of cargo.

Думаю примерно там же, где обещанный запуск хеви в прошлом году, и мегадешёвые запуски, и... да много чего...
