@CSA_ASC says notional launch date for #CASSIOPE space weather satellite is Aug. 14 - little later than expected - on @SpaceX Falcon 9 1.1.
SES 8 в этом случае не ранее сентября.

А есть какие-нибудь новости про CASSIOPE и SES-8? Оба спутника пока планируются на третий квартал, или уже на четвёртый?

ЦитироватьSES-8 and Thaicom-6 Satellites Delivered to Customers This Summer

Spacecraft Are 33rd and 34th GEOStar Satellites Produced for Customers Around the Globe

In June and July, Orbital delivered the Thaicom-6 GEOStar communications spacecraft to one of Orbital's newest customers, Thaicom PLC of Thailand, and the SES-8 spacecraft to SES of Luxembourg, a repeat GEOStar customer for Orbital. A hybrid Ku- and C-band spacecraft based on Orbital's GEOStar-2 spacecraft bus design, Thaicom-6 will provide a full range of end-to-end satellite communications services over Southeast Asia and Southern Africa, including direct-to-home and digital TV services.
Also based on Orbital's GEOStar-2 design, SES-8 will provide Ku-band communications for South Asia and Indo-China and Ka-band communications for the Asia-Pacific region.
Generating approximately five kilowatts of payload power, the hybrid satellite is the sixth GEOStar satellite to be ordered from Orbital by SES. Both SES-8 and Thaicom-6 are scheduled for launch on Falcon 9 rockets from Cape Canaveral, Florida later in 2013.
SES-8 and Thaicom-6 represent the 33rd and 34th GEOStar-based satellites ordered by customers around the globe. Optimized for small- and medium-class satellite missions, Orbital's highly successful GEOStar communications satellites provide up to eight kilowatts of payload power and can accommodate virtually all types of commercial communications payloads. Orbital expects to confirm orders for several new GEOStar communications satellites from new and repeat customers in the coming months.

ЦитироватьAs Next Customer on Falcon 9 Manifest, SES Awaits Details on Sept. 29 Flight
By Peter B. de Selding | Oct. 2, 2013

PARIS — Satellite fleet operator SES will await a detailed briefing from SpaceX on why SpaceX's new-version Falcon 9 failed to perform a planned reignition of its upper stage — crucial for deployment of the SES-8 satellite awaiting a Falcon 9 launch — during its Sept. 29 demonstration flight, SES spokesman Yves Feltes said Oct. 2.
In an interview, Feltes said Luxembourg-based SES nonetheless still expects SES-8 to be the payload on the next Falcon 9 launch. The mission, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks, will be the Falcon 9's first to geostationary transfer orbit, the dropoff point for most telecommunications craft.
Among the new features to be proved during the maiden flight of the Falcon 9 v1.1 rocket was the ability of its upper stage to perform a second ignition. While it was not needed for the Sept. 29 mission, which deployed multiple satellites to low Earth orbit, it is a necessary feature for launches into geostationary transfer orbit.
Hawthorne, Calif.-based Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) has a backlog of more than $1 billion in commercial satellite launches, more than half of which is for owners of geostationary-orbiting telecommunications satellites.
SpaceX's low prices relative to the competition — even compared with the Chinese Long March vehicle — have enabled the company to amass a healthy commercial backlog despite having never launched to geostationary transfer orbit.
SpaceX officials said after the Sept. 29 launch that the nonignition of the upper stage did not appear to be of a sort to delay the SES flight for very long. Feltes said SES is will hoping for a launch as soon as October, but added that if it slipped to November the company was willing to wait.
The fact that SES will be awaiting details from SpaceX "does not mean that we reject the flight as a qualification flight," Feltes said. "We still plan to be on the next Falcon flight, once SpaceX has solved the problem. But we need a technical explanation. We do need reignition of the stage for our satellite."
The shutdown of the U.S. government has rendered moot the date of SES-8's launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. Feltes said no new launches are moving forward during the shutdown. SES-8's manufacturer, Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles, Va., is weighing whether to send the satellite to Florida aboard a truck once SES has authorized its shipment to the spaceport.

Цитировать SES Reviewing Falcon 9 Upper Stage Reignition Abort Ahead of SES-8 Launch

Posted by Amy Svitak 1:38 PM on Oct 02, 2013
SpaceX says its Falcon 9 v1.1 upper stage aborted an attempted reignition of the new Merlin vacuum engine during Monday's debut of the upgraded rocket. Second-stage reignition is necessary for Falcon 9 to deliver payloads to geostationary transfer orbit (GTO).

"The second-stage engine initiated ignition, got up to about 400 psi, encountered a condition it didn't like and initiated an abort," SpaceX spokeswoman Emily Shanklin said Oct. 2. "We need more time to review the data before we come to any sort of definitive conclusion, but we are confident we will be able to address it before the next flight," she said, adding that the abort "wasn't anything fundamental" and that a planned late-October launch of the SES-8 satellite for Luxembourg fleet operator SES "is still on track to launch in about a month."

SES says it is now discussing the reignition abort with SpaceX ahead of the launch, which could also be delayed by the U.S. government shutdown as it affects operations at Cape Canaveral AFS, where the Orbital Sciences Corp.-built SES-8 spacecraft is to be launched.

ЦитироватьSES-8 ARRIVES AT CAPE CANAVERAL FOR SPACEX FALCON 9 LAUNCH
 08.10.2013

55th SES satellite to serve Asia-Pacific from 95 degrees East

Luxembourg, October 8th, 2013 – SES S.A. (NYSE Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) is pleased to announce that the SES-8 satellite has arrived at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral (Florida). The satellite will now be processed for a November launch on board a SpaceX Falcon 9 booster.
SES-8 has been manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation. The satellite features up to 33 Ku-band transponders (36 MHz equivalent). SES-8 will be co-located with NSS-6 at the orbital location of 95 degrees East to provide growth capacity over Asia-Pacific. The spacecraft's high performance beams will support the rapidly growing markets in South Asia and Indo-China, as well as provide expansion capacity for DTH, VSAT and government applications.
Martin Halliwell, Chief Technology Officer of SES, stated: "SES looks forward to the maiden launch of an SES satellite on board the Falcon 9 rocket operated by SpaceX. When co-located with NSS-6 at 95 degrees East, SES-8 will not only provide incremental high performance capacity for multiple applications, it will also create greater reliability and additional security for customers. As such, the SES-8 satellite is an integral part of SES' growing presence in Asia-Pacific."
