Antares Rocket Ready for Launch

ВАШИНГТОН, 7 января. /Корр. ИТАР-ТАСС Дмитрий Злодорев/. Грузовой корабль Cygnus в среду отправится в свой первый "регулярный" рейс к Международной космической станции. Намеченный на сегодня старт пришлось перенести на сутки из-за сильных морозов.

Cygnus будет запущен с помощью ракеты-носителя Antares с космодрома на острове Уоллопс (штат Вирджиния). Предполагается, что это произойдет в 13.32 по местному времени (22.32 мск).

Не исключено, что новое время придется изменить из-за погодных условий. Как заверяют в компании Orbital Sciences, построившей и Cygnus, и Antares, ракета-носитель способна стартовать при температуре в минус 6 градусов. Сейчас в районе космодрома на острове Уоллопс термометр показывает минус 7 градусов, но к середине дня в среду температура должна подняться примерно до нуля.

Если все пойдет по плану, то он пристыкуется к борту МКС 12 января ранним утром по времени Восточного побережья США.

Как ожидается, "грузовик" доставит на МКС свыше 1,3 тонны различных грузов, жизненно важных для обеспечения станции. В частности, это продовольствие, вода, запчасти, оборудование для научных исследований. Как отметили в пресс- службе НАСА, "в том числе на борт будут доставлены материалы для проведения 23 экспериментов, в реализации которых участвуют более 10 тысяч школьников и студентов".

Изначально старт Cygnus был запланирован на 19 декабря, но был перенесен из-за неполадок в системе охлаждения на американском сегменте МКС. Когда проблемы были устранены, предполагалось, что старт может быть назначен на февраль, но позднее специалисты решили осуществить его в январе.

Несколько месяцев назад Cygnus уже совершил пробный рейс к МКС. На сей раз на обратном пути он заберёт с борта орбитального комплекса различный мусор, который сгорит вместе с ним в плотных слоях атмосферы.

Orbital and NASA conducted the Antares Launch Readiness Review (LRR) this morning at the Wallops Flight Facility, resulting in a determination to move forward with the launch tomorrow, January 8, contingent upon successfully completing several outstanding testing actions and data reviews later this afternoon.
Assuming today's activities are completed on schedule, the Antares launch is targeted for 1:32 pm EST (18:32 GMT). The weather forecast for tomorrow is 95% "go" for launch.

• At a Launch Readiness Review Monday, managers for Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles, Va., and NASA gave a "go" to proceed toward the Wednesday, Jan. 8, launch of the Orbital-1 cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station, pending the completion of remaining testing, data reviews and a Wallops Range Authority to Proceed. Orbital is targeting a 1:32 p.m. EST launch from Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport Pad-0A at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in eastern Virginia. NASA Television coverage of the launch will begin at 1:00 p.m.
   There is a 95 percent chance of favorable weather at the time of launch. High, thick clouds are the primary concern for a weather violation. If needed, multiple back-up launch opportunities are available through Jan. 12.
   
   NASA TV will broadcast two news briefings today at the Wallops Visitors Center. A preview of the mission's science cargo will air at 2 p.m. and a prelaunch status will air at 3 p.m. The briefings will be carried live on NASA TV and the agency's website at www.nasa.gov/ntv.

However, due to significantly elevated flux levels, the Antares team decided to postpone the launch to spend the day further examining the potential effects of the space radiation on the rocket's avionics suite.

Today, in consultation with NASA and outside experts in the field of "space weather," Orbital will continue to monitor the levels of space radiation with a goal of setting a new launch date as soon as possible. If we are able to launch on Thursday, the launch targeted launch time would be 1:10 p.m. (EST), with Cygnus arriving at the ISS Sunday morning, January 12.

Однако из-за проблем в системе охлаждения корабля, который должен доставить спутники на орбиту, запуск решили перенести на 20:35 среды 8 января 2014 года. Если же высокая активность Солнца не позволит произвести запуск, то его перенесут на 9 января 20:10. Окончательное решение о старте космического корабля принимает НАСА по официальному заявлению от компании Orbital Sciences Corporation. Тем временем население Литвы выбирает три слова, которые протранслируются со спутников из космического пространства и ознаменуют грандиозность события для Литвы. На сайте tryszodziai.lt создано голосование, где литовцы могут выбрать эти легендарных слова. Свои предложения давали как обычные люди, так и известные политики, ученые и деятели культуры. Так, президент Литвы предложила свой вариант - «Литва любит мир». А мер Каунаса просил поддержать слово «Жальгирис». На его идею откликнулась целая арена одноименного баскетбольного клуба в Каунасе. Команда проекта «Миссия Lituanica 80» обнародует десятку популярнейших слов. По ним состоится итоговое голосование, результаты которого будут объявлены вечером 8 января перед предполагаемым стартом космического корабля со спутниками.
