XSPECT payload performance verified with Cas A observation
ЦитироватьThe XSPECT payload on XPoSat, India's first X-ray polarimetric mission, has captured its first light from the Cassiopeia A (Cas A) supernova remnant. Launched on January 1, 2024, XPoSat carries two co-aligned instruments, POLarimeter Instrument in X-rays (POLIX) and X-ray SPECtroscopy and Timing (XSPECT), aimed at unravelling the mysteries of cosmic X-ray sources. While the POLIX instrument focuses on investigating X-ray polarization in medium-energy X-rays, the XSPECT payload, engages in continuous and long-term spectral and temporal studies of X-ray sources in the soft X-ray band.
During its performance verification phase, XSPECT was directed towards Cassiopeia A, a standard celestial source used for instrument evaluation. The observation commenced on January 5, 2024, capturing the supernova remnant's emission lines corresponding to elements such as Magnesium, Silicon, Sulphur, Argon, Calcium, and Iron.

POLIX onboard XPoSat commences its observations
ЦитироватьThe Indian X-ray Polarimeter (POLIX), onboard India's X-ray polarimetry mission XPoSat, has commenced its scientific observations. A pulse profile of the Crab pulsar is generated from the observations carried out by POLIX during January 15-18, 2024. The Crab pulsar, a pulsating star, resides near the center of the Crab Nebula and spins about its axis approximately 30 times per second.

20.02.2024 8:59 = 637.7 х 652.1 х 5.987
PSLV R/B (58695 |24001B) с POEM-3  снижается, меняя e.

Today, @isro said it accomplished another significant milestone on March 21, when the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-3 (#POEM3) successfully re-entered Earth's atmosphere in a controlled manner, leaving minimal orbital debris. 1/n

·
#POEM3 was part of the #PSLVC58 mission that launched #XPoSat on Jan 1, 2024. After deploying satellites into their intended orbits, the spent rocket stage was transformed into a stabilised platform for conducting experiments. 2/n
·
"The last stage of PSLV or POEM was deorbited from 650km to 350 km, which facilitated its early reentry, and was passivated to remove residual propellants to minimise any accidental break-up risks," Isro said. 3/n
·
On March 21, at 7.34pm, POEM-3 re-entered Earth's atmosphere and impacted the North Pacific Ocean , successfully achieving its mission objectives. 4/n
·
Before it was deorbited and eventually brought back to Earth, over the course of a month, POEM-3 carried out various technology demonstrations and scientific experiments, including tests of indigenous systems... 7/n
·
...developed by startups, universities, and non-governmental entities (NGEs) through the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) initiative. 6/n
·
#POEM3 was configured with 9 experimental payloads and six were delivered by NGEs. "The mission objectives of these payloads were met in a month," Isro said. 7/n
·
#POEM platform provides a cost-effective opportunity for conducting short-duration space experiments, fostering innovation and collaboration with academia and private entities. 8/n
·
"Demonstrating its commitment to responsible space operations, Isro has been implementing measures to mitigate orbital debris, ensuring a sustainable environment for future space endeavours," the space agency added. n/n
