TIANGONG-1 REENTRY UPDATES

Latest reentry forecast provided by ESA's Space Debris Office, ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany.

Update 11:00 CET, 31 March 2018

The space debris team at ESA have adapted their reentry forecast over the last 24 hr to take into consideration the conditions of low solar activity. New data received overnight gave further confirmation that the forecast window is moving to later on 1 April.

The team now are forecasting a window centred around 23:25 UTC on 1 April (01:25 CEST 2 April), and running from the afternoon of 1 April to the early morning on 2 April. This remains highly variable.

One of the main reasons why it is so difficult to make an accurate reentry predictions, even if just a few days in advance of an expected reentry, materialised during Thursday this week.

Reentry will take place anywhere between 43ºN and 43ºS (see map here). Areas above or below these latitudes can be excluded. At no time will a precise time/location prediction from ESA be possible. This forecast was updated approximately weekly through to mid-March, and is now being updated every day.

The ESA prediction is now mid Apr 1 to early Apr 2, like the Space-Track prediction of Apr 1 1130 to Apr 2 0730. Aerospace Corp is predicting Apr 1 1630 UTC to Apr 2 0630 UTC.

(2/2) (cont.) There is some confusion about the uncertainty interval: the TIP lists a much larger interval than an announcement on the opening page. The latter uncertainty window , +- 15 minutes (!) is unlikely small, so I go with +- 6h of the actual TIP message for the moment.

Today morning (CEST) we tracked it at an altitude of 161 km and made new world exclusive radar  images. It is still intact, no damage. Next measurement in ~21h, most probably it is down then.

Пекин, 1 апреля /Синьхуа/ -- Первая китайская космическая лаборатория "Тяньгун-1" /"Небесный дворец-1"/ в понедельник, 2 апреля, войдет в атмосферу Земли. Об этом сообщили сегодня в Канцелярии программы пилотируемых космических полетов Китая.

В воскресенье средняя высота орбиты полета "Тяньгун-1" составляла 167,6 км.

Большая часть космической лаборатории сгорит в атмосфере, вероятность того, что ее обломки нанесут какой-то ущерб на Земле, крайне мала. Об этом говорится в недавно опубликованной статье названной канцелярии.

Вес лаборатории составляет около восьми тонн, она намного легче 80-тонной американской станции "Скайлэб" и 140-тонной советско-российской станции "Мир", поэтому она вряд ли повлияет на деятельность авиации или причинит ущерб на поверхности Земли, отмечается в статье.

При вхождении в атмосферу "Тяньгун-1" практически полностью разрушится и сгорит, до Земли может долететь лишь незначительная часть фрагментов, при этом скорость падения обломков будет очень медленной из-за их небольшой массы.

"Тяньгун-1" была запущена 29 сентября 2011 года и выведена из эксплуатации после завершения своей миссии в марте 2016 года.

За время работы лаборатории на орбите к ней успешно пристыковались китайские космические корабли "Шэньчжоу-8", "Шэньчжоу-9" и "Шэньчжоу-10". Модуль также выполнил целый ряд космических научных и прикладных задач, внеся важный вклад в развитие пилотируемой космонавтики Китая. -0-
