In honor of Sergey Andreev, I have decided to put aside Almaz for the time being, and concentrate my efforts on the 11Ф94 Lunniy Korabl. This was one of the first projects he helped me begin. However, since then it has become a much larger project.

Although there will be molds made at each step of the progress, this first copy is now being created in 1:5 scale, and will be donated to the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C. for the redesigning of their "Man on the Moon" display area tentatively scheduled for 2017. Many of the small objects which were originally thought to be difficult to construct at the time (such as the Power Supply) have now become quite simple with the advent of the 3D Printer.

I am not sure of the final display configuration; whether it will be as it would have looked on the Lunar surface (complete with EVTI insulation), or one which will show the all hardware, or if it will be a cut-away. So for now, I will work on making the base model with all visible exterior and interior hardware visible. If desired I can add EVTI later.

This is LK at Mozhaisky is as close as I have to the configuration I will build:

It lacks the Landing Pad Sensors and the Power Supply, but for the most part it is complete - and I believe it is the closest to the final configuration.

Here's to you, Sergey! Wish me luck!!!

There is one day a year when students at the A.F.Mozhayskiy Space Academy are allowed to have their families visit with them and tour the museum in Lab 33. It seems that there is a tradition of posing for photos in front of the Lunniy Korabl displayed there.

Here is a link to a FaceBook album of some of these photos found online:

The discovery Lunniy Korabl in the Arsenal of the Tambov Oblast (photographed by Igor Marinin) has me very curious. The sensor pads on the feet are quite unusual, but apparently was fitted on other LK still in existence. The wiring which goes to the sensors can be found on other Lunniy Korabl (such as the one at the A F Mozyhayskiy Space Academy).

Very interesting! ;)

I guess I should have phrased it differently. This LK is at the Arsenal  in the Tambov Oblast. The wiring going down the leg on this LK is similar to the wiring on the LK at Mozhaisky.

I will post a photo this evening which will explain it better.

Here is a drawing which I hope will explain the similarity of the landing pad sensor wires on the Mozhayskiy LK to those on the LK at the Arsenal in Tambov LK.

Seeing these cables on other Lunniy Korabl makes me wonder whether or not the Landing Pad Sensors were part of the LK final configuration.  :?:

A little "Soviet Cosmonaut Man on the Moon" bonus I dug up:

But where would they have been stored :?:

Wanted: Translator, English to Russian!

Hello Colleagues!

At this point I am in need of someone who can translate from English to Russian. There are still many construction bureaus I need to contact (such as ОАО ТМКБ «СОЮЗ» regarding the 11Д76 propulsion unit), and I have a much better chance of success if I can make my requests in Russian.

I will require confidentiality, as well as knowledge of russian aerospace terminology.

If this suits your interest contact me at DavidLRickman@gmail.com and state your terms.

Thank you!

I'm happy to say that the position has been filled.!!!

Thanks to all who showed interest!

And so it begins....

It started in 1990 with this article and my very first views of the soviet built Lunniy Korabl.

Now, many years later (and with the help of so, so many people) I am finally ready to begin assembly of my first 1:5 scale model of what I sincerely believe will be the most accurate depiction of this very unique spacecraft. And it is amazing how everything came together; I have the knowledge of many experts, have contacted Russian Design Bureaus, have collected the largest single repository of LK photo (again, with the help of so many generous people), spent thousands of hours studying records and photographs seeking even the most minute detail, and finally - I have a budget for all the supplies, a proper work area, every tool I could need, and even a 3D printer.

It will take years to complete the first, but along the way I will be making many molds so that 90% of the parts can be cast to build more of these. But, before I get any inquiries I must disclose that, at a cost of $15,000 to $35,000, I expect these will probably only go to museums and very serious collectors.

Виден один из ложементов, приборнaя рaмa с чaстью системы регенерaции,  кусочек второго ложементa тоже виден из-зa люкa СA. То есть версия с отстыковкой ОО нa орбите Луны имеет место быть.
