Apparently, and according to our friends from the 9ifly Space Chinese Forum, the launch of the Earthquake Electromagnetism Monitor Satellite and of the Tian Xun Zhe-1 (Tian Xun-1) will only take place next year. I'm also adding the launch of YaoGan Weixing to the 2009 schedule with a big question mark.

(Xinhua)
Updated: 2009-11-08 20:06

BEIJING: China will launch a French-made communications satellite for the Hong Kong-based APT Satellite Holding Limited in the first half of 2012.

A contract for the launch service was signed here Sunday.

The satellite, dubbed APTSTAR-7 and made by the Thales Alenia Space, will be sent into space by China's Long March 3B/E carrier rocket at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern China, according to a statement issued by the China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), the contractor of the launch on Sunday.

The satellite, with a designed life span of 15 years, will function for the service of live television broadcast and communications in Asia, the Middle East, Australia Africa and parts of the European Union.

As the only Chinese company engaged in international commercial satellite launching services, CGWIC, a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, has launched 36 foreign satellites.

Ye Peijian, chief designer of the nation's first moon probe, told the third International Conference on Space Information Technology in Beijing yesterday that the country's lunar lander and rover, Chang'e-3, is also well on the way toward liftoff -- the project is in the prototype stage and its launch is set for before 2013.
[/color:a838282860]
Ye said the second lunar orbiter will carry different payloads and orbit the moon in a different way.

"It will orbit 100 km closer to the moon and be equipped with better facilities. We expect to acquire more scientific data about the moon with increased accuracy," he told China Daily.

Though Chang'e-2 was at one time the backup to Chang'e-1, it has gone through technical upgrades for its new mission. Payloads on board have been improved, and the vehicle now boasts a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera on board, which has a much higher resolution than the camera on China's first lunar probe.

Ouyang Ziyuan, chief scientist with China's lunar exploration team, said on Wednesday during an interview with people.com.cn that systems on Chang'e-2 are undergoing "match-up and drills" and everything has gone well.

Tests will also be carried out during Chang'e-2's mission to prepare for the lunar lander and rover, Ye said.

Chang'e-3, China's first lunar lander and rover, is scheduled to be launched fr om a Long March 3B launch vehicle from the Xichang satellite launch center before 2013[/color:a838282860], he said.

At present, work on Chang'e-3 has gone beyond the planning stage and the machinery is now in the prototype stage.

"Completion of the planning stage means there is no technical barrier for us," he said.

The landing site on the moon for Chang'e-3 has also been chosen. Ye said it will be in the Sinus Iridium (Bay of Rainbows).

The scientific objectives of the project include investigating the lunar landscape and exploring the geological structure of the moon. The mission will also help China study the material composition of the moon and search for usable resources.

Scientists also hope the Chang'e-3 project will let them study the internal structure of the moon and, ultimately, they want to build an observatory on the surface.

Earlier reports by Xinhua News Agency said the lunar rover will leave Chang'e-3 and work on the moon's surface for three months. Scientists have decided to use an isotope technique generator to produce energy for the rover to enable it to cope with the lunar nights, wh ere temperatures can drop to 200 C below zero.

Chang'e-2 and Chang'e-3 are part of the second phase of China's lunar exploration program.

The third phase will see China send a spacecraft to the moon to collect samples and return. That project is slated for before 2017.

Brazil, China to postpone joint satellite launching to 2011
2010-02-12 09:36 BJT

BRASILIA, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Brazil and China will postpone their fourth joint satellite launching from 2010 to mid-2011, a Brazilian official said Wednesday.

The two parties held a critical design review meeting a few days ago and decided to reschedule the date for launching the satellite CBERS-3, said Thyrso Villela, director of satellites, applications and development of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), in an interview with Xinhua.

Brazil and China established in 1988 a joint committee for the construction, launching and operation of satellites under the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite (CBERS) Program.

The program allows the two countries to gather information about the Earth's environment, agriculture, urban development planning and water pollution.

"The AEB is very happy about this fruitful cooperation between China and Brazil, which is the main cooperation program of our country," said Villela.

At the initial phase (1988-2003), two satellites, CBERS-1 and CBERS-2, have been sent into space. The first one was launched in October 1999 and the second in October 2003.
