ЦитироватьAt least 17 different tests are planned by ISRO next year before it carries out the unmanned space flight in December next year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Gaganyaan Mission in his Independence Day address in 2018 with a tentative target of achieving it in 2022, when the country completed 75 years of freedom from colonial rule.
However, the Covid pandemic led to several delays and the first Indian astronauts are likely to undertake their maiden spaceflight by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

"C-3 is ready now. It is not a replica of C-2. The rover is there. The engineering is significantly different."
The Chandrayaan-3 mission is expected to be launched in August 2023, S. Somnath, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said here on the sidelines of a conference.
...
"There is also a second set of satellites [of OneWeb] that will be launched in February next year," he added.
...
Preparations for India's maiden manned mission into space or Gaganyaan were progressing with an expected launch date of December 2024. "They are going on slow and steady. It requires several critical steps to be crossed. There will be two unmanned missions and four abort missions before we decide on sending the manned mission. Of course all of them have to be fully successful."

ЦитироватьBENGALURU: India's privately built Earth observation satellite — startup Pixxel's Anand — will be among the seven satellites Space PSU NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) will launch as ride-sharing payloads along with Isro's Oceansat-3, which is tentatively scheduled to be launched on a PSLV-C54 on November 26.

Anand will be the first privately developed Earth observation satellite to be launched from India and second from the Pixxel stable. The firm had launched Shakuntala using a SpaceX rocket in April 2022. Aside from Anand, NSIL will launch two private communication satellites (Thybolt) for Dhruva Space and four other satellites (Astrocast) for US firm Spaceflight.
"All of them are through commercial contracts and together the seven satellites through NSIL will weigh around 50 kg. The four satellites for Spaceflight are being built by Swiss firm Astrocast," an official said.
Bengaluru-based Pixxel, which was initially looking at launch services in Russia, decided to launch its first satellite on an Indian launch vehicle in December 2020. Following that Anand was scheduled to be launched on the PSLV-51 in February 2021 making it the firm's first launch, but the firm withdrew the satellite owing to technical issues.
"Due to certain software issues that surfaced during the final satellite testing, we have decided not to proceed with our launch.." the firm had then said. It later launched Shakuntala. Sources in Isro said that the firm has now resolved all the technical issues and the satellite was ready for launch along with Oceansat-3 or Earth Observation Satellite-6 (EOS-6).
Hyderabad-based Dhruva, which space qualified its satellite orbital deployer (DSOD 1U) earlier this year, will launch two tech-demonstrator satellites — their Thybolt-1 and Thybolt-2.
Besides the NSIL payloads and Oceansat-3, the PSLV will also put into orbit BhutanSat — a satellite for Bhutan as part of New Delhi's diplomacy. Former Isro chairman K Sivan had described it as India's gift to Bhutan as part of the space diplomacy initiatives put in place by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We're helping their personnel to build the nano satellite which will be used for imaging purposes," he had told TOI earlier.
Oceansat-3, the main payload, is part of a series of satellites from Isro dedicated to oceanography and atmospheric studies. The first two satellites facilitate a range of applications including cyclone prediction, documentation of chlorophyll concentration, phytoplankton blooms, atmospheric aerosols, and so on.
The third in the series is expected to provide continuity and enhanced capabilities for sea surface temperature measurements among other things.
While union minister Jitendra Singh has announced the launch date to be November 26, a senior Isro official said: "The date has been decided but an official announcement on the same will be made a bit later. The launch preparations are ongoing at the first launch pad in Sriharikota."

ЦитироватьSEATTLE –  September 12, 2022 – Spaceflight, the leading global launch services provider, today announced it will launch four Astrocast 3U spacecraft aboard India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) mission under a commercial arrangement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). This mission, scheduled for October 2022, will launch from Sriharikota, India's Satish Dhawan Space Center, carrying the Astrocast spacecraft as a co-passenger to sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) along with the Indian national primary satellite.
This launch represents Spaceflight's eighth launch on a PSLV and its fourth supporting Astrocast's nanosatellite Internet of Things (IoT) network and constellation. Once this mission is complete, Spaceflight will have launched 16 spacecraft in the Astrocast constellation, which enables companies to track and monitor assets in some of the world's most remote regions.

"PSLV has long been a reliable and valuable launch partner to Spaceflight and we're excited to work with NSIL again after the COVID-19 restrictions of the last few years. By having experience working with many different launch providers around the world, we are able to identify missions that meet our customer's exact needs – whether that's driven by schedule, cost or destination. As Astrocast builds its network and constellation, we can offer them a range of launch options, flexibility and customization to support their long-term plans."
    said Curt Blake, CEO Spaceflight

Astrocast is a long-time Spaceflight customer. In March 2022, the Satellite IoT (SatIoT) network operator extended its multi-launch agreement with Spaceflight to accommodate Astrocast's fast-growing IoT constellation. Spaceflight has previously successfully launched all 12 of Astrocast's spacecraft into orbit, including demonstration models dating back to Spaceflight's historic SSO-A mission in 2018 and PSLV-C45 in 2019. The companies most recently partnered and successfully launched an additional five nanosatellites on SpaceX Transporter-1 in January 2021.

"This launch is helping us get closer to accomplishing our mission of building and operating the most advanced and sustainable satellite IoT network. Our long-standing relationship with Spaceflight and their access to, and experience with, an extensive portfolio of vehicles has provided us with the flexibility and customization needed to launch our satellites. Assured access to space is critical for us as we grow our network and our partnership with Spaceflight enables us to efficiently build out our constellation."
    said Kjell Karlsen, CFO Astrocast

The uniqueness of Astrocast's nanosatellite IoT network can be attributed to the fact that its Low-Earth-Orbit constellation of satellites offers users cost-effective, bidirectional communication and modules with long battery life that connect assets moving across its network. The small sized modules and antenna allow systems integrators to place a module on any device, from fishing buoys to container trackers or moving animals. Astrocast's solution has been designed to minimize the need for human intervention and repair, wherever possible, safeguarding the IoT business case.

  • The satellite will be deployed in the sun-synchronous orbit
  • They are synchronized to always be in the same fixed position relative to Sun
  • Isro is launching a total of nine satellites into space on Saturday
By India Today Web Desk: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is set to launch the final mission of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) for the year. The PSLV-C54 mission will lift off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota with nine satellites, which include 8 nanosatellites.
This will be the 56th flight of the PSLV from India and the fifth and final launch of the vehicle in 2022. The 44.4 meter rocket will launch with a lift-off mass of 321 tonnes with its primary satellite being the Earth Observation Satellite-6, also dubbed the Oceansat-3.
The satellite will be deployed in the sun-synchronous orbit, which is a kind of polar orbit where satellites traveling over the polar regions are synchronous with the Sun. This means they are synchronized to always be in the same fixed position relative to the Sun. According to the European Space Agency, the sun-synchronous orbit ensures that the satellite always visits the same spot at the same local time.

Mr. Somanath also said that ISRO will have a slew of launches in 2023. "ISRO is also planning to have its mission to the sun with its satellite Aditya-L1, a coronagraphy spacecraft to study the solar atmosphere, with a PSLV rocket next year," he said. The space agency will also launch a navigation satellite for the country's NavIC constellation. "ISRO has planned to launch four NavIC satellites and the first one will go up in 2023."

ЦитироватьNellore: Buoyed by the success of the PSLV-C54 mission on Saturday, Isro chairman S. Somanath said the PSLV will be used for a mission to the sun, to deploy the Aditya-L1 satellite, a coronagraphy spacecraft to study the solar atmosphere, next year.
The spacecraft will be placed in a halo orbit around the first Lagrange point, L1, of the Sun-Earth system. A satellite around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the sun without occultation or eclipses.
Dr Somanath said several other missions are in the pipeline for the near future which encompasses navigation and commercial sectors.
He said that the space agency plans to use its PSLVs, GSLVs, LVM3 and SSLV for a slew of satellite launches in the coming months.
Referring to the successful launch of 36 satellites of UK-based OneWeb recently, he said that the firm contracted ISRO's commercial arm, NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), to launch the next batch of 36 satellites in January 2023. Each launch fetches NSIL `1,000 crore, sources said.
OneWeb is a joint venture between India Bharti Global and the UK Government.
Among the plans is also the launch of a navigation satellite for the country's NavIC constellation, Somanath said, adding that the first of four will go up in 2023.
Isro orbited eight satellites for the NavIC constellation, of which some are not working.
The space agency will also send up its small rocket, the SSLV, Somanath said. Modifications have been made following the failure of the rocket's maiden mission this year, he said.

In a written reply, Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Dr Jitendra Singh mentioned that a total of Rs 980.56 crore  (approx $118 million) has been sanctioned for the 'Acquisition of Land and establishment of space launch centre infrastructure at Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu'. Of this sum, Rs.210.20 crore (approx $25 million)  has been remitted to the Government of Tamil Nadu towards land acquisition, read the minister's response. It was also added that the construction activity would commence only after the entire land acquisition process is completed.

Indicating steady progress of work in building India's second spaceport, the Indian government revealed that 81 per cent of land required for the project at Kulasekarapattinam, Tamil Nadu has been acquired. The remaining parcels of land are in advanced stage of acquisition, the government said.

Land acquisition is under progress by Government of Tamil Nadu. Till date, acquisition of land to an extent of 1946.44 acres (out of 2376 acres) is completed by Government of Tamil Nadu and the same is taken over by Department of Space," as revealed in lower house of Parliament of India.

Tamil Nadu is a southern Indian state. The new spaceport will be constructed in southern part of the state. The new spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam will offer some advantages over the existing and only spaceport in India at Sriharikota.
Rockets flying into polar orbit from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh need to perform a turn-manoeuvre to avoid flying over Sri Lanka. This needs fuel and reduces the mass that can be carried to orbit . While this doesn't have much impact on large rockets, it adversely impacts the capacity of small rockets such as the SSLV (Small satellites Launch Vehicle) and those being built by Indian start-ups.
A launch from Kulasekarapattinam will enable a straight flight path to the polar regions (without having to overfly/ bypass Sri Lanka), thereby saving fuel and payload capacity. Given that smaller rockets are easier to manufacture, assemble and take lesser time to launch, it is important for India to have a dedicated spaceport for smaller rockets. Notably, smaller rockets are also attractive to foreign and domestic customers who are looking to launch small satellites at low costs.
Two Indian start-ups are actively working on building indigenous rockets (to carry 500 kg and lesser to Low Earth Orbit) and would find the second spaceport an attractive location to launch from. Recently, a start-up Skyroot Aerospace demonstrated their sub-orbital rocket successfully and are hoping for an orbital launch by 2023-end. Another start-up Agnikul Cosmos is building a private launchpad at the existing spaceport in Sriharikota, in the run up to their maiden launch.
