Long Beach, California. January 5, 2021 – Rocket Lab, the global leader in dedicated small satellite launch, has today announced its first Electron launch of the new year will be a dedicated mission for European space technology company OHB Group.

This dedicated mission, named 'Another One Leaves the Crust,' is scheduled for lift-off during a 10-day launch window opening on January 16th NZT/UTC. Encapsulated inside Electron's fairing will be a single communication microsatellite that will enable specific frequencies to support future services from orbit. The launch will be Rocket Lab's 18th Electron mission and was procured for OHB Group through OHB Cosmos International Launch Service GmbH, the launch service division of OHB Group. OHB Cosmos is responsible for launching the spacecraft built by the Group's satellite manufacturers based in Germany, Sweden, and Czech Republic.

The mission will launch from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 on New Zealand's Māhia Peninsula to an initial elliptical orbit, then Electron's Kick Stage will perform a series of burns with its relightable Curie engine to raise apogee and act as a space tug to deliver the OHB Cosmos' payload to its precise orbital destination. Following payload deployment, the Kick Stage will perform a de-orbit burn to lower its perigee where it will experience greater atmospheric drag, enabling it to re-enter and burn up faster to avoid becoming space junk. Rocket Lab will not be attempting to recover Electron's first stage for this mission.

Rocket Lab's founder and CEO, Peter Beck, says: "We're proud to be delivering a speedy and streamlined path to orbit for OHB Group on this mission, with launch taking place within six months of contract signing. By flying as a dedicated mission on Electron, OHB and their mission partners have control over launch timing, orbit, integration schedule, and other mission parameters."

OHB Group
Лозунг мисси — «Another One Leaves The Crust».

Rocket Lab is beginning the process of loading super-cold liquid oxygen into the two-stage Electron rocket on Launch Complex 1A in New Zealand. This step in the countdown comes after loading kerosene fuel into the rocket.
The 59-foot-tall (18-meter) Electron rocket's Rutherford engines will consume the liquid propellants during the first nine minutes of the mission.

SCRUB. Rocket Lab says it is standing down from today's Electron launch attempt in New Zealand to "review sensor data." The company has a 10-day window for its first mission of 2021, which will deploy a small clandestine satellite for OHB, a German aerospace company.

Here's an overview of the launch sequence provided by Rocket Lab.

В ответ @RocketLab
We had an inclinometer showing some strange data. It's not used for flight, but we want to understand it all the same. That's part of the beauty of operating our own launch range, we have the luxury of time to roll back out when we're ready.

20.01.2021 0:00:10
Rocket Lab.
Another One Leaves the Crust ("Очередной покидает поверхность"), микроспутник, предназначенный для апробирования определенных частот для использования в будущих орбитальных проектах, будет выеден на орбиту через 1 час 10 минут после старта.

Rocket Lab is pressing ahead with another launch attempt in New Zealand, four days after scrubbing a countdown to evaluate suspect sensor data.
The California-based rocket company says it is targeting liftoff of the 59-foot-tall (18-meter) Electron rocket at 1:58 a.m. EST (0658 GMT) from Launch Complex 1 at Mahia Peninsula on the North Island of New Zealand.
The mission will carry a super-secret small spacecraft into a polar orbit for OHB, a Germany satellite-builder. It will be Rocket Lab's first mission of 2021.
Rocket Lab says teams at the launch site in New Zealand are monitoring surface winds, but the winds are expected to decrease closer to launch time, which is set for 7:58 p.m. local time.
In the coming hours, the launch team will begin loading RP-1 kerosene and liquid oxygen propellants into the Electron rocket. Rocket Lab does not plan to recover the Electron rocket's first stage on this mission.

T-60 minutes until #AnotherOneLeavesTheCrust and OHB Group's satellite will be on its way to orbit. Surface level winds are still high, so it's possible we could enter a hold while we wait for a break in the weather.
