Naohiko Abe, Senior Vice President and Head of Integrated Defense and Space Systems at MHI, said, "I would like to express my profound appreciation to all involved in the launch campaign for their devoted support and cooperation. In particular, I greatly appreciate the continuous support and cooperation of UAE's Space Agency and MBRSC with us over the 4 years since MHI received the contract in March 2016. Today's launch is the second H-IIA launch for the UAE government, following the observation satellite, Khalifasat, launched in 2018. The Emirates Mars Mission targets to reach Mars in 2021 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE and I am proud that we launched successfully as scheduled today. I sincerely hope that the successful completion of the Mars mission by the spacecraft will bring hope and delight to people all around the world in the midst of this global crisis due to COVID-19. MHI values its relationships of trust we have built over the years with the UAE government and our customers and continues to provide launch services that flexibly address customers' needs."

UAE probe heads to Mars on Japanese rocket

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries conducted the launch. It is the fourth time the Japanese company has used the H2A vehicle to launch a foreign satellite into space.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries won the launch order for the Mars mission in 2016 from the UAE's Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, the fourth overseas client for the Japanese heavy machinery maker's H-2A rocket launch services. It was the second launch order from the UAE after the one for the Khalifasat observation satellite.

The Al'amal @HopeMarsMission probe is now 411,000 km from Earth, beyond the orbit of the Moon. Here is its track in GSE coordinates (where the Earth-Sun line is fixed). The Earth moves towards -Y; the probe is going in the same direction but faster and slightly outward/upward

We received the Hope probe's first sighting of its destination, Mars, after the spacecraft travelled one million km into space. Beyond the sky is where our dreams start.

The UAE @HopeMarsMission left the Earth's gravitational sphere of influence today en route to Mars. It is now over 1.5 million km from Earth. Orbital parameters (heliocentric ecliptic):  1.016 x 1.644 AU x 2.2 deg.  C3 was 13.28 km2/s2.

The #HopeProbe has successfully completed its first trajectory correction manoeuvre - a major milestone in its journey to #Mars. This marks the first firing of the probe's six Delta-V thrusters, for course correction that will see the probe directly targeting Mars' capture orbit.

The Hope probe is officially 100 million km into its journey to the Red Planet. Mars, as demonstrated in the image captured by the probe's Star Tracker, is ahead of us, leaving Saturn and Jupiter behind. The Hope probe is expected to arrive to Mars on February 2021.

Here's something I think you will find fun: the current location of Earth's Mars fleet. (1/2): wide view showing Earth, Mars, and (magenta) fleet, with box showing size of next zoom in:

And here is a zoom in showing Percy, a guess at its Centaur booster, Tianwen 1 and its CZ-5 rocket stage, and Al'amal (Hope) and its H2 second stage rocket.

My position calculations for the rocket stages are approximate. JPL could do a better job, and I wish they would...
