ЦитироватьChennai, Feb 21 (IANS) The Indian space agency will carry out a series of tests to validate the design and engineering of the rocket and orbital module system for the country''s prestigious human space flight programme-Gaganyaan, a top official said.

He also said the space agency would soon build its own astronaut training facility and launch its first small satellite launch vehicle (SSLV) or small rocket in couple of months time.

"The design and engineering of the launch vehicle and orbital module system for India''s human space flight has been completed. A series of tests have to be competed to validate the design and engineering of the systems in 2020," K.Sivan, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.

He was speaking at the 70th Annual General Meeting and National Conference on "Recent Developments in Aerospace and Defence Technology" organised by Aeronautical Society of India.

According to Sivan, ISRO''s aim is to have the first unmanned flight by the end of next year.

The human space flight demonstration is planned before India''s 75th Independence Day in 2022 and four Indians are undergoing astronaut training in Russia.

The satellites are planned to be launched using Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C49).

Kleos Space

Chennai: Kleos Space, a space-powered Radio Frequency Reconnaissance data-as-a-service company on Thursday said its mission team will be travelling to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh from March 18 to carry out the final preparation steps prior to launch of its 'four Kleos' Scouting Mission (KSM) satellites.

The satellites are planned to be launched using Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C49).

"We are on the cusp of the launch of our Scouting Mission satellites from Chennai (from Sriharikota near Chennai). Our combined team is undertaking final preparations for our satellites to be integrated with the PSLV launch vehicle. Kleos eagerly awaits the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the launch provider, publicly announcing the upcoming launch date, until then Kleos is bound by contractual confidentiality," Andy Bowyer, CEO of Kleos Space was quoted as saying in a statement.

"Following launch, spacecraft operation engineers will guide the satellites from launch vehicle separation until they are established in their final orbit. This is an important milestone for Kleos as it will enable us to commence data delivery and revenue generation from early adopter contracts," he added.

According to him, there is increasing demand for the company's global maritime geolocation intelligence data.

He said the company's independent intelligence will complement existing datasets to enable the detection of hidden maritime activity such as drug and people smuggling, piracy, pollution and illegal fishing.

The Kleos team will start travelling to the launch site on March 18 to carry out final preparation over a period of approximately six days prior to handing Kleos' nanosatellites over to New Space India (NSIL) for integration with the launch vehicle.

The preparation activities include carrying out spacecraft checkout, battery charging, fuelling, setting the final spacecraft flight configuration and overseeing the dispenser integration.

Kleos' Scouting Mission satellites will share the ride on PSLV-C49 with satellites from other organisations such as Spire Global.

Kleos' satellites will launch into a 37-degree inclination orbit, providing unprecedented situational awareness over crucial shipping regions including the Strait of Hormuz, South China Sea and East and West African coasts, the statement said.

Kleos' Scouting Mission satellites will detect and geolocate maritime radio frequency transmissions to provide global activity-based intelligence irrespective of the presence of positioning systems, in spite of unclear imagery and if targets are out of patrol range. These initial satellites form the foundation of a larger constellation that will deliver near real-time intelligence over key regions of maritime interest.

ЦитироватьISRO Plans to Launch 36 Missions in 2020-2021
By TWC India Edit Team6 hours agoTWC India

India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has slated as many as 36 missions for the next two years, the central government confirmed on Monday. These will include milestone missions like Chandrayaan-3 (Moonlander mission) and an uncrewed mission for Gaganyaan (human flight mission).

The confirmation came from the Union Minister of State Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

During 2020-21, ISRO has scheduled the launch of several satellites including ten earth observation satellites, three communication satellites, two navigation satellites and three space science satellites.

Among the rocket launches, ISRO has scheduled launches of ten PSLVs, three GSLV MK II, and one GLSV MK III. In addition, two small satellite launch vehicles are also planned for 2020-2021.

"Indian Space Programme is focused on peaceful uses of Outer Space. Towards this, Space Technology should be used for the benefit of the country and society, provide solutions for developmental activities and address problems of the society at large," Dr Singh said in a written statement.

For the 2019-2020 years, ISRO has successfully completed 11 out of the total targeted missions—four Earth observation satellites, Chandrayaan-2, four PSLVs and one communications and one space science satellite.

One of the most anticipated upcoming missions of the space agency, Gaganyaan, is scheduled for launch in 2022. But before that, ISRO is likely to send two uncrewed missions—one by the end of 2020 and another by mid 2021. The precursor missions are supposed to carry a humanoid robot that will study the environment and perform all tasks designated for humans to conduct in orbit.

Furthermore, the prior missions would also help to test the systems on-board, to ease out the task and detect any faults ahead of the maiden human flight. The humanoid robot named 'Vyom Mitra' will also perform a few micro-gravity experiments shortlisted by the Indian space agency. The spacecraft with the robot will travel the distance of 400 kms and will stay in orbit for seven days, just like the Human Gaganyaan mission. The Gaganyaan mission will carry three Indian astronauts to space.

Moreover, the government has also decided on the tentative date of Chandrayaan-3 mission—the first half of 2021. It's the third lunar mission, which aims to do a soft-landing on the Moon's south polar region. As part of the Chandrayaan-2 mission the Vikram lander failed to make a soft-landing on the surface of the moon and ISRO lost contact with it just before the landing. In its second attempt, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will again attempt to achieve a soft landing on the south pole of the lunar surface, which is least explored to date.

ЦитироватьLockdown in space: India's major missions Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan-3 postponed indefinitely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Major space missions, including that of India, have been put on hold due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. India's major missions, including Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan-3, has been postponed indefinitely. Space conferences are also postponed. Missions to the moon, sun, and mars have been postponed. SpaceX's ambitious flight service project through space has been stalled. 10 out of 18 research facilities of NASA have been shut down by March 25. A scientist of NASA had tested positive for coronavirus on March 9. By the end of the month, it had spread to numerous persons.

At India's VSSC, the staff has been asked to work from home which brought an abrupt stop to rocket manufacturing. The centre is currently manufacturing sanitization products. Also, they are helping is designing ventilators for COVID-19 treatment, the director said.

60 percent of ISRO's activities are done by private firms. Especially, the parts of rockets and satellites. Major companies, as well as small scale lathe institutions, are working with the ISRO. COVID-19 outbreak has apparently stopped all activities here.

Sources, however, added that the next launch was scheduled to be held in April.
"But now we cannot launch GISAT-1 due to lockdown. An exercise like launching a satellite requires nearly 1,000 people to do deal with its various aspects," a source said.
No fresh date has been fixed for the launch of GISAT-1, the sources said.

By Sharmishte Datti | Published: Friday, May 1, 2020, 7:30 [IST]

COVID-19 pandemic has brought various organizations to a standstill. This includes ISRO among other space agencies. As it's known, ISRO plays a crucial role in launching satellites, not just for India, but for other countries and private organizations as well. Fresh reports note that the Luxembourg-based Kleos Space is awaiting ISRO to begin launching satellites.

Kleos Space Scouting Mission Awaiting ISRO Satellite Launch

Kleos Space Awaits ISRO's Satellite Launch Kleos Space is a space-powered radiofrequency reconnaissance data-as-a-service company to enhance geospatial intelligence. The company is now awaiting ISRO's announcement for the launch of its rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle - C49 (PSLV-C49) notes IANS.
In a statement, Kleos Space said that the company has shipped four Kleos Scouting Mission satellites to the Indian satellite integration and rocket launch site at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh in February 2020. All the satellite shipment reached India on schedule, right in time for the preparation of the launch.
However, in March, the Indian government put the entire country in one of the most-expensive lockdowns, bringing in uncertainty about the future. The lockdown has delayed nearly all scheduled activities, including the launch of the PSLV-C49 by the Indian Space Research Organisation. Although the current delay is out of its reach, Kleos Space said in a statement that it's waiting for the launch date of the satellite.

What Is Kleos Space Sending To Space?

As noted, Kleos Space is a radiofrequency reconnaissance company based out of Luxembourg. ISRO was supposed to carry a satellite for Kleos Space, which once launched will cover crucial shipping regions for defense and security customers including the Strait of Hormuz, South China Sea, Australian coast, Southern US coast as well as the East and West African coast.
The Kleos Space's Scouting Mission satellites are said to form a foundation of a constellation that delivers a global picture of hidden maritime activity, enhancing the intelligence capability of government and commercial entities. This includes even when the Automatic Identification System (AIS) is defeated, the imagery is unclear or targets are out of patrol range, the statement said.
However, given the current condition where the lockdown is being extended, it might take a while to launch the satellite. However, nothing is certain yet

ISRO units resume work in capital

It could be months before space missions achieve normalcy

The easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions has enabled critical units of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) here to resume work after nearly two months, albeit on a limited scale. But it could be several more months before space-related activities return to normal, officials say.

The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) and the ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) had asked the staff, except personnel required for essential services, to stay home from March 23.
Strict measures

Now, adhering to the guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the units have opened up the campuses to more of their staff, but the emphasis on disease containment measures remain stringent. All staff holding rank equivalent to deputy secretary and above have begun reporting for duty on a daily basis. As much as 33% of the remaining officers/staff have been directed to attend work.

Safety measures are strictly followed on the campuses. "Internal meetings are restricted to a few people. The duration of the lunch break has been increased to avoid crowding. Employees are encouraged to bring packed lunches so as to keep support staff to a minimum," an LPSC official says.

However, it could be months before the space missions achieve any semblance of normalcy, a senior official at the VSSC says.

Missions affected

The lockdown has forced the ISRO to put off two missions of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and one of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). The lockdown has also affected future programmes including Gaganyaan, ISRO's ambitious human space flight mission.

"At the moment, much of the work is confined to internal activities on the campuses such as fabrication, R&D and mission studies. Major activities such as space missions continue to be hit due to the restrictions on inter-district and interstate travel and disruption of the supply chain," a VSSC official says.

During the lockdown the space facilities here have not remained idle. They had redirected their resources to combat COVID-19, which included the development of different ventilator models.
