Iran's New Home-Made Satellite Ready to Launch

TEHRAN (FNA)- President of Iran University of Science and Technology Mohammad Barkhordari announced the country's preparedness to orbit a new home-made satellite named Tadbir (Prudence).

"The first satellite that the University of Science and Technology sent into the space was named Navid (Harbinger) which was launched successfully and returned after carrying out its main mission," Barkhordari said on Monday.
"The second satellite (Tadbir) of the Science and Technology University has been designed and built with advanced operational features and specifications and has been transferred to the Iranian Space Agency (ISA)," he added.
Barkhordari added that the satellite is waiting for launch considering the type of rocket and launcher that the authorities will decide to use for sending it into the orbit.
After Iran launched its first locally-built satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009, it put two other satellites including, Rasad (Observation), and Navid-e Elm-o Sanat into space.
Head of Iran's Aerospace Research Center Fathollah Ommi announced in October that Iran would send its first astronaut to experience a suborbital spaceflight within the next five years.
"We will send man into the space to the suborbital level in the next five years and we will have an orbital launch until 2025," Ommi told reporters in a press conference in Tehran.
A suborbital spaceflight is a flight in which the spacecraft reaches space, but its trajectory intersects the atmosphere or surface of the gravitating body fr om which it was launched, so that it does not complete one orbital revolution.
Ommi explained that Iran has held negotiations with Russia and China on the project, but has eventually sel ected Russia for the launch, given its long experience in aerospace industry.
Also last month, Director of ISA Mohsen Bahrami also announced the country's plans to send astronauts into space in cooperation with Russia.
"The project to send man into space is still a priority of the ISA and we have even held some negotiations with Russia to send astronauts into space," Bahrami told reporters in Tehran.
Elsewh ere, he referred to Iran's talks with Eutelsat, Intelsat, Sputnik, Asiasat and SCS satellite operators belonging to the European and Asian states, including France, Britain, Russia, China, South Korea and Japan, and said, "After these negotiations and inking the initial contract, we intend to buy a remote sensing and a telecommunication satellites."
Bahrami also expressed the hope for the start of interactions with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the future, saying that "NASA is an independent international agency whose executive branch is just in the US".
Bahrami had announced in September the country's plans to send one or two satellites into the orbit by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20).
"This year, we will send Dousti (Friendship) satellite into space and we will also be ready for a second launch late this year or early next year," Bahrami said.
Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi announced in August that the country's experts have started efforts to build a remote sensing satellite with environmental applications.
"The work on building a remote sensing satellite started last week," Vaezi told reporters in the Northern city of Sari.
"By building the satellite, the country will further develop in environmental, agricultural, water and soil fields," he added.
In February 2015, Iran's domestically-made National Fajr (Dawn) satellite was launched into orbit and started transmitting data to its stations on earth.
The satellite made its first contact with its ground stations hours after it was put into the orbit.
Fajr satellite is technically characterized by an orbit which could promote fr om 250 to 450 kilometers through a thruster or an engine.
Equipped with GPS navigation system, Fajr, weighing 52 kilos, is the fourth Iranian-made satellite which was put into orbit after three others between 2009 and 2012.

3 Iranian satellites ready for launching
Tehran, Oct 1, IRNA – Head of Iranian Space Agency (ISA) said on Monday that domestically-made satellites Payam-e Amirkabir, Dousti, and Nahid-1 have been completely built and are ready to be launched.

Morteza Berari in a press conference on the occasion of World Space Week (October 4-10) expressed hope that the satellites will be placed into earth's orbit by the end of current Iranian year (March 20).'
Iranian Deputy Minister of Communications said Iran is the first country in the Middle East and the ninth in the world to achieve complete space supply chain.
'Payam-e Amirkabir will be placed into the orbit 500 kilometers above the earth's surface and its data will be used for developing programs,' he added.
Nahid 1 is the first Iranian satellite made specifically for communication purposes, which is designed and built by Iran Space Research Center.
Payam-e Amirkabir Satellite is designed and developed by Tehran's Amirkabir University of Technology and is planned to carry out imagery mission in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
Iran has previously sent Simorgh satellite and Pajouhesh explorer into the orbit in recent years.
Barari added that Zafar satellite will be built by the end of current Iranian year and will be placed in the queue to be launched then.
The ISA has planned to build imagery satellites with one-meter-precision by the end of current Iran's 20-year National Vision program on 2025.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to developing space startups, increasing Iran's space budget, establishing Supreme Space Council and space technologies internet TV as the main programs of ISA in the future.
It has also intended to transfer operational activities of building satellites to private sector and to mainly focus on providing them with space infrastructures.
Each year, the World Space Week (October 4-10) marks two of the most prominent events in space history.
The first human-made satellite to orbit earth Sputnik-1 was launched on October 4, 1957 and ten years later on October 10, 1967 the Outer Space Treaty which defines countries' space borders of exploration, and provides a basis for International Space Law was signed.
