(https://img.novosti-kosmonavtiki.ru/191451.png) (https://spaceflight.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/SXRS5_Patch_final.png)
Earlier today, we announced details surrounding our upcoming SXRS-5 mission (https://spaceflight.com/spaceflight-inc-readies-36-customer-spacecraft-and-two-otvs-for-launch-on-spacexs-transporter-2-mission/) (denoting our 5th SpaceX rideshare launch), scheduled to launch no earlier than June 2021. On this mission, we will debut TWO different orbital transfer vehicles for the first time, including the industry's first-ever electric propulsion vehicle, Sherpa-LTE. (More about the Sherpa product line here (http://www.spaceflight.com/sherpa).)
We're secured 3 ports on the mission to support 36 spacecraft — comprised of 6 microsatellites, 29 cubesats and one hosted payload — from 14 organizations across 7 countries. To say handling the launch services and mission management is complex for a mission this size is an understatement, but it's truly what we love to do.
So, who's onboard SXRS-5? Over the next several months we'll be taking even a deeper dive into many of these ground-breaking organizations and their missions, but here's a quick look:
Aerospacelab's Arthur: Aerospacelab's Risk Reduction Flight mission objective is to put into service a high resolution optical payload, gain flight heritage for the in-house developed equipment, and verify the capability to maneuver the spacecraft thanks to the Micro Propulsion System from ExoTrail.

By Jodi Sorensen
JUNE 7, 2021
Debuting two OTVs on SpaceX's Transporter-2, the company will demonstrate maximum flexibility and rapid scalability with plug-and-play subsystems for propulsion, command and control, avionics, and more
SEATTLE – June 7, 2021 — Spaceflight Inc., the leading global launch services provider, will debut newly developed technical innovations utilized for its next-generation Sherpa program, enabling small satellite transportation throughout cislunar space in a way that has never been accomplished before. Intentionally architected with modular plug-and-play subsystems, Spaceflight's next-gen Sherpa orbital transfer vehicle (OTV) program offers customers flexibility and customization, including multiple types of propulsion for last-mile delivery, flight-proven avionics and separation sequencers, rich deployment telemetry and imaging systems, direct space-to-ground networks, and more. Based on a standardized 24" ESPA port, the Sherpa OTVs offer a reconfigurable 300 kilogram payload capacity and are sized to launch on most rockets.
(https://img.novosti-kosmonavtiki.ru/191455.jpg) (https://spaceflight.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/DSC04862-scaled.jpg)
The team preps Spaceflight's two OTVs for flight on SpaceX's Transporter-2 mission (SXRS-5)Спойлер
The modular design enables Spaceflight to quickly customize the OTVs with different propulsion systems and subsystems to deliver highly varied capabilities to meet customers' unique needs for orbital deployment. In its simplest form, Spaceflight's OTV is a free-flying rideshare deployer; in its most advanced state, it's an interplanetary transport vehicle. Each Sherpa can be exactly tailored to the demands of a given mission, customer, or application.
"With the launch of Sherpa-FX2 and Sherpa-LTE1 on the upcoming SpaceX Transporter-2 mission, we are harnessing the power of our modular design and preparing for future launches with multiple Sherpa OTVs," said Philip Bracken, vice president of engineering at Spaceflight. "Much like with LEGOs, we can easily build different variations of Sherpa vehicles for flight in a matter of months, as well as adjust to last-minute manifest changes without impacting the rest of the mission. This is an unprecedented capability in the space industry, and we are excited to offer this service to our customers."
The company will be flying three variations of Sherpa OTVs this year — a free flyer (Sherpa-FX), one with electric propulsion by Apollo Fusion (Sherpa-LTE), and another with chemical propulsion from Benchmark Space Systems (Sherpa-LTC). "These propulsion systems can quickly be integrated to accommodate specific mission goals which is a paradigm shift for in-space transportation," adds Bracken.
"It's not an overstatement to say that the propulsive Sherpa fundamentally changes the smallsat market," said Mike Cassidy co-founder of Apollo Fusion. "Spaceflight's next-gen Sherpa OTVs combined with Apollo Fusion's propulsion can now take spacecraft to any orbit — from low Earth orbit, medium Earth orbit, geostationary orbit, lunar or beyond. It's a game-changer for smallsats that used to be confined to the standard rideshare orbits; now they're free to chart their own destiny."
In addition to the propulsion options, the unique modular structure also enables the company to add a customized command-and-control system, built with flight-proven components from Astro Digital. Similar in shape and size to a payload, the command subsystem can be easily integrated to maneuver the chemical and electric propulsion Sherpa OTVs.
Spaceflight will also be utilizing its flight-proven R2A avionics system, built entirely in-house. The system will give customers unprecedented access to the most accurate and timely data about the health and location of their spacecraft. Spaceflight designed its new avionics system based on learnings from past missions to provide higher fidelity data utilizing direct space-to-ground networks. One of the most flexible and lowest-cost sequencers on the market, R2A will give Spaceflight customers access to individual spacecraft separation and deployment processes, thereby reducing risk and providing greater mission assurance.

At least one reason for the scrub: the super chilled LOX only remains in spec for several minutes and a one hour launch window is insufficient to detank and refill the LOX.
[По крайней мере, одна причина для очистки: суперохлажденный LOX остается в спецификации только в течение нескольких минут, а одночасовое окно запуска недостаточно для расщепления и пополнения LOX.]

We've collected some great tracking data over the past day for the #Transporter2 payloads! The first pass was over the city of Midland, Texas just 1.5 hours after liftoff.
We see all deployments as expected and are actively working with operators to provide support as needed.

SpaceTrack is starting to get some of the Transporter-2 satellites identified, including the 26 of the SpaceBEEs. No ID yet for the NASA-Ames PACE-1 despite its RFID tag and laser retroreflectors which were meant to make it easy to ID...
.
Of 83 objects cataloged from Transporter 2 so far (6 more sats still aboard ION), 33 are now identified, so 40% at 11 days after launch. These mass payload deployments are hard to sort out.

Ignition demonstrates reliable electric propulsion (EP) system
Alameda, CA. August 24, 2021. Astra Space, Inc. ("Astra") (Nasdaq: ASTR), today announced the successful orbital ignition of its Apollo Fusion thruster on board the Spaceflight Sherpa-LTE1 orbital transfer vehicle (OTV). The Sherpa OTV launched June 30, 2021 from SpaceX's Transporter-2 mission from Cape Canaveral, Florida. After successfully deploying all rideshare payloads, Spaceflight commissioned the Apollo Fusion thruster, representing Astra's first attempt at firing the thruster in orbit.
"The telemetry from the on-orbit firing looked excellent and closely matched our ground test results," said Mike Cassidy, Vice President of Product Management at Astra. "We expect to deliver thrusters for additional satellites over the next quarter and these on-orbit test results provide further validation for several programs for which we are supplying propulsion systems."
"This represents the industry's first fully functional electric propulsion OTV," said Philip Bracken, VP of Engineering at Spaceflight. "Our next-gen Sherpa OTVs were intentionally designed for maximum modularity, flexibility and rapid development including offering several innovative propulsion solutions. The successful commissioning and ignition of Apollo Fusion's system paves the way for expanding orbital destinations for smallsats and is paramount in achieving our goal of getting our customers' payloads to space whenever and wherever they want."
Astra acquired Apollo Fusion in July 2021 to leverage Apollo Fusion's shared focus on designing and manufacturing products at scale that can reach destinations beyond low Earth orbit.
"We're incredibly proud of everyone who built this EP system," said Benjamin Lyon, Chief Engineer at Astra. "This is an important milestone on our journey to provide rapid, low-cost access to space."...
