A communications satellite built for the South Korean military arrived at Cape Canaveral this week from an Airbus factory in France to begin final preparations for launch on SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in July.

The Anasis 2 communications satellite flew to the Kennedy Space Center Monday aboard an Antonov An-124 cargo plane from Toulouse, France, the site of an Airbus spacecraft manufacturing facility.

The flight from Toulouse to the Kennedy Space Center appeared on public flight tracking websites. Industry sources confirmed the Antonov transport plane carried the Anasis 2 spacecraft to the Florida launch base, where teams will test and fuel the satellite inside a SpaceX processing facility at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The Anasis 2 satellite is scheduled for launch in early July on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center.

Developed by Airbus Defense and Space, the Anasis 2 satellite is shrouded in secrecy at the wishes of the the spacecraft's owner — the South Korean government.

Anasis 2 is based on the Eurostar E3000 spacecraft platform made by Airbus, but details about its performance have been kept under wraps. The Anasis 2 satellite is expected to launch into an elliptical transfer orbit, then use its on-board propulsion system to reach a circular orbit at geostationary altitude more than 22,000 miles (nearly 36,000 kilometers) over the equator.,

South Korea purchased the satellite — formerly known as KMilSatCom 1 — through an arrangement to offset South Korea's purchase of F-35A fighter jets from Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin ultimately subcontracted the satellite manufacturing deal to Airbus.

Before Anasis 2, South Korea's military has relied on international and civilian-owned satellites for communications.

The liftoff of the Anasis 2 satellite in early July is currently fourth in line in SpaceX's launch manifest.

A Falcon 9 rocket launch carrying the next batch of SpaceX's Starlink broadband satellites are scheduled for Friday from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, followed by another Falcon 9/Starlink launch in late June from pad 39A at Kennedy.

The U.S. Space Force's next GPS navigation satellite is scheduled for launch June 30 from pad 40 on another Falcon 9 rocket, followed by the Anasis 2 mission in early July.

SpaceX is preparing to deploy the ANASIS-II (Army/Navy/Air Force Satellite Information System) satellite for the Republic of South Korea. The military satellite will launch atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 40 at the United States Air Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The mission is scheduled for no earlier than July 14th (time pending).

The satellite is manufactured by Airbus Defense and Space, it will be operated by South Korea's Agency for Defense Development. South Korea made an agreement in 2014 with Lockheed Martin to acquire ANASIS-II as a side deal when it purchased an F-35A Joint Strike Fighter. Then, the company subcontracted the satellite manufacturing work to Airbus in 2016.

ANASIS-II arrived to the United States from an Airbus factory located in Toulouse, France. An Antonov An-124 cargo airplane transported it to a SpaceX facility at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, where teams are conducting final preparations. In the week ahead, the satellite will be integrated atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket's fairing. Falcon 9 will deploy the ANASIS-II satellite into an elliptical transfer orbit. ANASIS- II will use its integrated propulsion system to reach an altitude of 36,000 kilometers over the equator, where it will operate in geostationary orbit to provide coverage to the Korean Peninsula over a 6,000-kilometer radius. Not much has been revealed about the satellite's exact function because it's a South Korean government mission, all that is known is that the satellite is based on the Eurostar-3000 satellite platform. The design can be modified to meet specific requirements by the customer.

This mission is expected to be carried out by a previously-flown Falcon 9 rocket first-stage booster, production number B1058. This particular rocket booster is special because it made history when it lifted NASA astronauts to orbit aboard the Crew Dragon spacecraft for the first time on May 30 (Demo-2 mission). The aerospace company is currently the only in the world that has achieved landing orbital-class rockets over 50 times. Falcon 9's first-stage is capable of launching a payload to space and returns to land vertically on an autonomous drone ship at sea. SpaceX recovers and reuses rockets in order to reduce the cost of spaceflight.

Hours after calling off a launch of a different rocket from a nearby launch pad, SpaceX's launch team loaded a Falcon 9 rocket with propellant Saturday and fired its nine main engines on pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, setting the stage for a liftoff with a South Korean military satellite as soon as Tuesday amid a busy stretch of missions for the California-based rocket company.

SpaceX ground crews raised the Falcon 9 rocket vertical on pad 40 Saturday morning. An automated computer-controlled sequencer commanded super-chilled, densified kerosene and liquid oxygen into the Falcon 9 Saturday afternoon.

The countdown culminated in ignition of the rocket's nine Merlin 1D main engines at 6 p.m. EDT (2200 GMT). The engines throttled up to full power, generating 1.7 million pounds of thrust for several seconds while clamps restrained the Falcon 9 on the launch pad.

Onlookers observed a plume of exhaust coming from the rocket and confirmed the the test-firing occurred. SpaceX was expected to officially release an update on the outcome of the static fire test after a quick-look data review.

The Falcon 9 will be lowered and rolled back inside SpaceX's hangar near pad 40, where technicians will attach a European-made communications satellite named Anasis 2 built for the South Korean military.

Assuming the final days of launch preparations go according to plan, SpaceX plans to launch the mission Tuesday during a nearly four-hour window opening at 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT) and extending until 8:55 p.m. EDT (0055 GMT).

The static fire test Saturday for the Anasis 2 mission occurred the same day SpaceX planned to launch a Falcon 9 rocket from pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, located a few miles north of pad 40. SpaceX announced Saturday morning that it called off the launch from pad 39A "to allow more time for checkouts."

SpaceX tweeted that teams "working to identify the next launch opportunity" for the mission from pad 39A, which will loft SpaceX's next 57 Starlink broadband Internet satellites and a pair of commercial BlackSky Earth-imaging microsatellites.

The Starlink/BlackSky launch was supposed to take off June 26, but SpaceX delayed the mission to conduct additional pre-launch checkouts. A launch attempt Wednesday was scrubbed minutes before liftoff by poor weather.

The company has not disclosed any details about the nature of the problems — other than weather — that have delayed the Starlink/BlackSky mission. As of Saturday evening, it was not clear whether SpaceX might proceed with Tuesday's planned Anasis 2 launch next, or if there might be another opportunity to launch the Starlink/BlackSky mission as soon as Monday.

SpaceX has launched 11 Falcon 9 missions so far this year, most recently on June 30, when a Falcon 9 rocket took off from pad 40 with a U.S. military GPS navigation satellite.

Отмечается, что SpaceX собирается осуществить запуск миссии ANASIS-II со стартового комплекса SLC-40 на космодроме ВВС на мысе Канаверал во Флориде. Окно для старта будет открыто с 17:00 до 20:55 по времени Восточного побережья США (с 00:00 до 03:55 по Москве 21 июля), сказали в компании.

Первая многоразовая ступень ракеты-носителя Falcon 9 для этой миссии уже использовалась для запуска 30 мая нового американского пилотируемого корабля Crew Dragon к Международной космической станции с экипажем в составе астронавтов Дагласа Харли и Роберта Бенкена, отмечает SpaceX.

Вслед за отделением от ракеты-носителя первая многоразовая ступень ракеты-носителя Falcon 9 должна будет совершить автоматическую посадку на плавучей платформе Just Read the Instructions в Атлантике.

Forecasters predict a 70 percent chance of acceptable conditions for launch of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral today. There's a nearly four-hour launch window for the Falcon 9 to take off with South Korea's Anasis 2 military communications satellite.

"The air mass across central Florida remains slightly drier than normal for this time of year, which will limit precipitation coverage today into Monday," the U.S. Space Force's 45th Weather Squadron wrote in a pre-launch weather forecast.

The primary weather concerns for today's launch opportunity are with cumulus clouds and surface electric fields due to possible isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in the area.

Forecasters predict partly cloudy skies, winds from the east at 10 to 15 mph, and a temperature of around 84 degrees Fahrenheit at launch time.

"However, a disturbance currently over the eastern Bahamas will track northwest and approach Florida Monday night into Tuesday, bringing an uptick in moisture and greater coverage of showers and thunderstorms at that time. Thus, the forecast reflects less favorable weather conditions for Tuesday's launch window."

There's a 50 percent chance of good weather if the Falcon 9 launch is delayed to Tuesday evening.

T-minus 1 hour, 58 minutes. Final countdown preparations are underway at the Kennedy Space Center as teams prepare a Falcon 9 rocket for liftoff at 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT).

Fueling of the Falcon 9 rocket is expected to begin at 4:35 p.m. EDT (2035 GMT), three minutes after a planned readiness check by SpaceX's launch conductor to verify the launch vehicle, payload and weather are "go" for liftoff.

Super-chilled, densified kerosene and liquid oxygen will be simultaneously pumped into the Falcon 9's first stage beginning at T-minus 35 minutes. Liquid oxygen will begin flowing into the second stage at T-minus 16 minutes.

In the final 10 minutes of the countdown, an automatic sequencer will command the Falcon 9's first stage engines to be chilled in preparation for ignition, the rocket's navigation computer will be configured for flight, its upper stage engine will run through a steering profile, and the launch pad's strongback will be retracted around 1.5 degrees away from the rocket.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket is set for liftoff from Cape Canaveral on Tuesday, heading due east over the Atlantic Ocean to deliver the South Korean Anasis 2 military communications satellite into orbit around 32 minutes later.

The 229-foot-tall (70-meter) rocket is poised for launch from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida during a launch window Monday opening at 5 p.m. EDT (2100 GMT) and closing at 8:55 p.m. EDT (0055 GMT).

Perched atop the rocket is the Anasis 2 communications satellite, a spacecraft manufactured by Airbus Defense and Space in Toulouse, France, and owned by the South Korean military.
After deployment from the upper stage of the Falcon 9 rocket in an elliptical transfer orbit, the Anasis 2 spacecraft will use its on-board hydrazine-fueled engine to boost itself into a circular geostationary orbit more than 22,000 miles (nearly 36,000 kilometers) over the equator.

Based on Airbus's Eurostar E3000 satellite design, Anasis 2 "will provide secured communications over wide coverage," Airbus said in a statement.

The Falcon 9 first stage booster set to loft the Anasis 2 payload has one previous flight to its credit. It launched May 30 with NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken on the first test flight of SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft with people on-board.

On Monday, July 20 at 5:30 p.m., SpaceX's Falcon 9 launched the ANASIS-II mission from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Falcon 9's first stage previously launched Crew Dragon to the International Space Station with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on board. Following stage separation, SpaceX landed Falcon 9's first stage on the "Just Read the Instructions" droneship, which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. The ANASIS-II spacecraft deployed about 32 minutes after liftoff.

Запуск спутника изначально был запланирован на 14 июля, однако операцию отложили из-за необходимости провести дополнительные проверки второй ступени Falcon 9.

Ранее

Как констатируют порталы, ранее компания не раз осуществляла спуск одной из двух половин обтекателя на парашютах в сетку. Кроме того, удавалось достать данный элемент из воды и применить повторно.
Запуск в понедельник был осуществлен с космодрома на мысе Канаверал (штат Флорида) для вывода на орбиту спутника связи для нужд военных Южной Кореи. В компании сообщили, что данная операция была осуществлена успешно. Спутник выведен на заданную орбиту.

СЕУЛ, 31 июля. /ТАСС/. Военный спутник Республики Корея Anasis-II, выведенный в космос 20 июля ракетой-носителем Falcon 9 американской компании SpaceX, успешно достиг окончательной позиции на геостационарной орбите. Об этом сообщило во вторник южнокорейское Агентство оборонных закупок.

"Аппарат занял позицию на фиксированной орбите на высоте около 36 тыс. км над Землей 31 июля в 7:11 утра (01:11 мск)", - отмечает ведомство. С запуском Anasis-II Южная Корея стала десятой страной в мире, имеющей собственный спутник связи исключительно для военных целей.

Строительство и вывод на орбиту этого спутника является частью сделки по закупке Южной Кореей у США 40 истребителей F-35A. Anasis-II создан на платформе космического аппарата Airbus Eurostar E3000, он предназначен для обеспечения защищенной и устойчивой к помехам связи для военных Южной Кореи.
Запуск спутника изначально был запланирован на 14 июля, однако операцию отложили из-за необходимости провести дополнительные проверки второй ступени Falcon 9.
