Argentina's SAOCOM 1B been loaded into an Antonov cargo plane for the trip to Cape Canaveral.

Launch is set for March 30 at 7:21pm EDT, with landing back at the Cape's LZ-1 <10 minutes later. All right before sunset at 7:39pm.

Затем он был доставлен во Флориде на самолёте Ан-124. Сейчас аппарат проходит последние проверки, затем его ожидает интеграция под обтекатель Falcon 9.
SAОCOM 1B - спутник для мониторинга земной поверхности массой 3000 кг.
Он будет служить в системах раннего оповещения о наводнениях, состоянии моря, незаконного промысла, а также для поддержки управления при чрезвычайных ситуациях природного характера, такими как разливы нефти и ураганы. Спутник оснащен сложной технологией наблюдения с использованием современных оптических датчиков, известных как радар с синтезированной апертурой (SAR). Аппарат сможет создавать до 225 2D или 3D-изображений в день пролетая над Аргентиной. Спутник будет частью будущей группировки из 10 спутников системы SIAGSE, в которую войдут 4 аргентинских SAOCOM и 6 итальянских COSMO-SkyMed.
Это уже второй спутник SAОCOM, который запускают на Falcon 9, 7 октября 2018 SpaceX успешно запустила аппарат SAOCOM 1A, "старшего брата" 1B.
Особенность этого запуска: запуск, впервые за очень долгое время с Мыса Канаверал, будет осуществляться на Полярную орбиту. Изначально планировалось, что SAOCOM 1A будет запущен с базы Ванденберг, Калифорния.
Спутник станет главной полезной нагрузкой миссии, кроме того, планируется вывести на орбиту первую партию малых спутников в рамках проекта SpaceX по совместному запуску малых аппаратов - Smallsat Rideshare Program.
Запуск запланирован на 30 марта с площадки SLC-40 базы ВВС на Мысе Канаверал.

Вариантов немного. На 25 июля: 1060.2 - 25 дней, 1059.4 - 42 дня, 1049.6 - 51 день, боковушки Хэви или новая ступень. Я бы предположил 1059.

Точнее первые ступени Фалкона-9 переделывали в боковушки Хэви, но наоборот наверно даже проще.

A team of 18 Argentine engineers is quarantining in Florida this week after arriving from Buenos Aires, observing coronavirus health restrictions before beginning operations at Cape Canaveral next week to ready Argentina's second radar Earth observation satellite for liftoff as soon as July 25 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

Officials suspended preparations for the launch of Argentina's SAOCOM 1B radar imaging satellite in March due to concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. The mission was previously scheduled for launch March 30.

Mission managers and engineers from CONAE — Argentina's National Commission for Space Activities — and SAOCOM 1B satellite manufacturer INVAP arrived in Miami on Saturday aboard a commercial flight from Buenos Aires. The team members were expected to quarantine in a hotel for eight days and drive to Cape Canaveral to resume preparations for launch of the SAOCOM 1B spacecraft.

The SAOCOM 1B satellite was flown in a transport plane from Argentina to Cape Canaveral in February. After officials announced the launch delay in March, engineers placed the spacecraft in storage at a SpaceX facility in Florida to await the resumption of launch preparations.

CONAE, which manages the SAOCOM 1B mission, cited "restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic" on the launch and on operations of the satellite as the reason for the launch delay.

The SAOCOM 1B engineers who traveled to Florida tested negative for the COVID-19 virus before departing Argentina. They will be tested for the virus again before they are permitted to enter SpaceX facilities at Cape Canaveral, according to CONAE.

The engineers will begin tasks Monday, July 13, to ready the 6,600-pound (3,000-kilogram) SAOCOM 1B spacecraft for launch. The team will verify the health of the satellite after coming out of three months in storage, then encapsulate the spacecraft inside the payload fairing of its Falcon 9 launcher.

Argentine officials said the launch from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is scheduled between July 25 and July 30. The launch time each day is set for approximately 7:19 p.m. EDT (2319 GMT).

The launch of SAOCOM 1B in late July is currently third in line on SpaceX's busy launch manifest.

SpaceX is preparing for launch of a Falcon 9 rocket Wednesday from pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center — a few miles north of pad 40. Another Falcon 9 is scheduled for liftoff July 14 from pad 40 with South Korea's Anasis 2 military communications satellite.

Engineers in Argentina will participate in the launch campaign remotely, assisting in virtual readiness reviews before ground controllers take command of the SAOCOM 1B satellite after launch.

SAOCOM 1B is the second of two identical radar observation satellites developed by CONAE, following the SAOCOM 1A satellite launched in October 2018 on a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The satellite's purpose is to scan the Earth with an L-band steerable synthetic aperture radar, enabling all-weather imagery of the planet day and night. Radar imagers can see through clouds and are effective 24 hours a day, but optical cameras are hindered by clouds and darkness.

When it launches with SAOCOM 1B, the Falcon 9 rocket head south from Cape Canaveral to deploy the spacecraft into a polar orbit 385 miles (620 kilometers) above Earth. The flight will be the first rocket launch from Florida's Space Coast since 1960 to target a polar orbit.

SAOCOM 1B was originally supposed to launch from Vandenberg on the West Coast, the primary U.S. launch base for polar orbit missions. SpaceX moved the launch to Cape Canaveral because the company's launch schedule at Vandenberg is relatively quiet this year, with no Falcon 9 launches planned from there until November.

The move allowed SpaceX to temporarily reduce its staff at Vandenberg, Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and chief operating officer, said last year.

A 220-pound (100-kilogram) commercial radar imaging satellite owned by Capella Space, a San Francisco-based company, will accompany SAOCOM 1B into orbit on top of the Falcon 9 rocket. It will be the second satellite launched for Capella, which is developing a fleet of small spacecraft it says can be tasked in real-time by customers and collect imagery day and night with a resolution of about 1.6 feet (50 centimeters).

A radio occultation microsatellite for PlanetiQ is also booked to launch with SAOCOM 1B and Capella's radar satellite.

The GNOMES microsatellite is the first of a planned fleet of around 20 small spacecraft being developed by PlanetiQ to collect radio occultation data by measuring the effects of the atmosphere on signals broadcast by GPS, Glonass, Galileo and Beidou navigation satellites. The information can yield data on atmospheric conditions useful in weather forecasts.

It is expected they will make the catch attempt and then run north to the Starlink LZ, most likely dropping off their halves along the way. I wonder about this SAOCOM-1B landing. Usually (I think) boosters are falling short of the landing pad into the water until landing burn starts and pushes them to the pad.

Each ship can carry both fairing halves but can only attempt to catch one and then hopefully scoop the other from the water.

Если Дельту снимут и увезут со стартового комплекса для проверок - по идее никакого риска быть не должно.

SpaceX is readying two Falcon 9 rockets for a pair of flights nine hours apart Sunday from separate pads along Florida's Space Coast. Weather permitting, the back-to-back departures Sunday would mark shortest span between two orbital-class launches from Cape Canaveral since 1966.

SpaceX's two missions Sunday come on the heels of a dramatic abort just before the planned liftoff of a powerful Delta 4-Heavy rocket early Saturday.

The triple-core Delta 4-Heavy rocket, built by United Launch Alliance, was counting down to launch at 3:28 a.m. EDT (0728 GMT) Saturday with a classified satellite for the National Reconnaissance Office, the U.S. government's spy satellite agency.

But a computer controlling the final moments of the countdown commanded an abort during the rocket's ignition sequence.

A ULA spokesperson said one of the Delta 4-Heavy's three Aerojet Rocketdyne RS-68A engines — mounted under the rocket's starboard booster — had already ignited when the abort was triggered three seconds before liftoff. The starboard engine ignites first in the Delta 4-Heavy's staggered engine startup sequence.

ULA said Saturday the Delta 4-Heavy launch would be grounded for a minimum of seven days while engineers examine the cause of the launch abort and configure the rocket for another countdown.

That sets the stage for SpaceX's next two Falcon 9 rocket missions Sunday to carry 60 more Starlink broadband spacecraft and Argentina's SAOCOM 1B radar observation satellite into orbit.

"SpaceX is targeting Sunday, August 30th, for two launches — a Starlink mission in the morning and the SAOCOM 1B mission in the evening," the company wrote on its website.

First, a Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to take off from pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center at 10:12 a.m. EDT (1412 GMT) with the next batch of 60 Starlink satellites for SpaceX's planned network to beam worldwide broadband Internet signals from space.

Around nine hours later, a different Falcon 9 rocket could launch from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 7:18 p.m. EDT (2318 GMT) with Argentina's SAOCOM 1B radar observatory.

The dual blastoffs will be the 100th and 101st orbital launch attempts in SpaceX's history, including flights of the light-class Falcon 1 booster beginning in 2006.

With the 60 satellites launching Sunday morning, SpaceX will have deployed 713 flat-panel Starlink spacecraft on 12 Falcon 9 rocket flights since May 2019. SpaceX's Starlink "megaconstellation" is already the largest fleet of satellites in the world, but hundreds more will be launched in the coming months.

Jonathan Hofeller, SpaceX's vice president of Starlink and commercial sales, said earlier this month that the company is building six Starlink spacecraft per day, and plans to launch Starlink missions at intervals of every two to three weeks until completing the initial Starlink network of around 1,440 satellites.

SpaceX has regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission to eventually operate nearly 12,000 Starlink satellites to blanket the planet with high-speed, low-latency Internet signals.

After heading northeast from Cape Canaveral, the Falcon 9 rocket will inject the 60 Starlink satellites — each weighing about a quarter-ton — into an elliptical orbit ranging in altitude between 132 miles and 213 miles (213 and 343 kilometers). The satellites, built at a SpaceX facility in Redmond, Washington, will deploy from the rocket's upper stage around 15 minutes after liftoff from Cape Canaveral.

The satellites will unfurl solar panels, switch on their krypton ion thrusters, and begin maneuvering to an operating orbit around 341 miles (550 kilometers) above Earth. SpaceX has started "beta testing" of the Starlink network for prospective customers in Washington before commencing commercial service.

The SAOCOM 1B satellite awaiting launch Sunday evening was developed by Argentina's space agency, CONAE.

Like its twin satellite SAOCOM 1A, the SAOCOM 1B spacecraft will scan the Earth with an L-band steerable synthetic aperture radar, enabling all-weather imagery of the planet day and night. Radar imagers can see through clouds and are effective 24 hours a day, but optical cameras are hindered by clouds and darkness.

Among other objectives, the SAOCOM satellites are designed to measure soil moisture and collect data for users in Argentina's agricultural and forestry sectors.

The SAOCOM 1B satellite weighs around 6,724 pounds (3,050 kilograms) and is identical to SAOCOM 1A, according to Raúl Kulichevsky, executive and technical director of CONAE.

Kulichevsky said the Falcon 9 will place SAOCOM 1B into a 385-mile-high (620-kilometer) orbit, where it will double the observing capacity of SAOCOM 1A. The SAOCOM satellites work in tandem with Italy's COSMO-SkyMed satellites to survey the same regions with L-band and X-band radar imagers.

"One of the main targets of the SAOCOM satellites is to provide information for the agriculture sector because one of the things we develop is soil moisture maps, not only of the surface, but taking advantage of the L-band capabilities, we can measure the soil moisture 1 meter the surface of the land," Kulichevsky said. "This is very important information."

The entire SAOCOM project cost about $600 million, including two satellites, two launches, a new ground tracking station, and industrial improvements, Kulichevsky told Spaceflight Now in an interview.

Two small rideshare payloads will ride into orbit with SAOCOM 1B.

After releasing SAOCOM 1B around 14 minutes into the mission, the Falcon 9 will deploy two smaller satellites named GNOMES 1 and Tyvak 0172 about an hour after liftoff, according to SpaceX.

The GNOMES 1 microsatellite is the first of a planned fleet of around 20 small spacecraft being developed by a Colorado-based company PlanetiQ to collect radio occultation data by measuring the effects of the atmosphere on signals broadcast by GPS, Glonass, Galileo and Beidou navigation satellites. The information can yield data on atmospheric conditions that are useful in weather forecasts.

Tyvak 0172 is a small spacecraft built by Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems. Details about its mission have not been disclosed by SpaceX or Tyvak.

SpaceX plans to land the first stage booster from the Starlink mission on a drone ship positioned in the Atlantic Ocean northeast of Cape Canaveral. The first stage from the SAOCOM 1B mission is due to return to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for an onshore landing less than 10 minutes after liftoff.

One of SpaceX's two vessels tasked with retrieving payload fairing shells — which jettison a few minutes after launch — is in position northeast of Cape Canaveral to recover the two-piece shroud from the Starlink mission. Another boat is south of Cape Canaveral near the recovery zone for the fairing shells from the SAOCOM 1B launch.

Both launches Sunday will employ previously-flown Falcon 9 rocket boosters. But the weather forecast is iffy Sunday.

In the official launch weather outlook for Sunday morning's Falcon 9 launch, the U.S. Space Force predicts a 50 percent chance of favorable weather, with "considerable" mid-level and high-level clouds expected over Florida's Space Coast. The prime weather concern for the Falcon 9/Starlink mission is the potential of violating the thick cloud rule.

There's just a 40 percent chance of acceptable weather predicted for launch of the SAOCOM 1B satellite Sunday evening, due to the "threat of evening thunderstorms and associated cloudiness over the launch area," according to the 45th Weather Squadron.

If they both take off as scheduled, the dual Falcon 9 launches planned Sunday would make history.

The last time Cape Canaveral hosted two orbital launches in a shorter period of time was Nov. 11, 1966, when an Atlas-Agena and a Titan 2 rocket launched just 99 minutes apart from different pads, according to a launch log maintained by Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who tracks global satellite and launch activity.

The Atlas lofted the Agena target vehicle used for docking by the two-man Gemini 12 crew, which launched on the Titan 2 rocket the same day.

Speaking with reporters earlier this week, Brig. Gen. Doug Schiess — commander of the 45th Space Wing which runs the Eastern Range — said the range has shortened the time it needs to reconfigure between missions.

"The launches are continuing to increase," Schiess said. "That's due in part to our national security space missions, and a huge part is our commercial missions.

"We want to be a range that's resilient and reliable enough that any time anybody wants to launch, whether that's a national security payload, a civil payload with NASA, or a commercial payload, that we're able to do that," Schiess said Tuesday.

While noting the busy launch manifest this week required some "scheduling gymnastics," Schiess lauded the range's partnership with ULA and SpaceX to help make it happen.

The advent of the autonomous flight termination systems, which would be activated to destroy a rocket if it flew off course, helps the range streamline operations required to support missions from Cape Canaveral. SpaceX's Falcon rocket family uses the automatic destruct systems, while ULA's Delta 4-Heavy and Atlas 5 rockets use an older flight termination system that requires a manual command to be sent from a control officer on the ground.

ULA's next-generation Vulcan Centaur rocket will have the autonomous flight termination capability, which allows the range to support launches with smaller teams. The automated safety system also allows the range to accommodate more than one launch on the same day.

Before the introduction of the automated flight safety system and satellite-based GPS tracking, a network of tracking radars were required to monitor each rocket's flight path to ensure it stayed within predefined corridors. Coupled with concerns over aging range infrastructure, that often required a minimum of two days between launches from Cape Canaveral in recent decades.

"Autonomous flight safety systems allow us to be much faster at this, so as the new rockets come online from ULA and others that will have autonomous flight system (systems), that will allow us to be even better at this," Schiess said.

"It really just comes down to a collaboration effort and the ability to schedule everything, change the network over," Schiess said. "That's also some of the things we're doing for the range of the future, to build us an architecture that will change over much faster, plug and play with our telemetry, and things like that."

The SAOCOM 1B mission is noteworthy in another sense because it will be the first rocket launch from Cape Canaveral since 1969 to fly on a southerly course to deploy its payload into a high-inclination orbit that flies near Earth's poles.

The unusual trajectory will require the Falcon 9 rocket to first fly south-southeast from Cape Canaveral over the Atlantic Ocean, then bend its course back to the west in a right turn to skirt the coast of South Florida.

Known as a "dogleg" maneuver, the right turn will ensure the rocket's impact point never crosses Florida in the event of an in-flight failure that causes the vehicle to crash back to Earth. The launcher will then head over the Florida Straits and Cuba before placing the SAOCOM 1B radar satellite into orbit.

Range safety officials began studying the southerly launch trajectory after wildfires at Vandenberg Air Force Base — where nearly all the U.S. launches into polar orbit originate — threatened launch and payload processing facilities in 2016. It turned out SpaceX's ability to return first stage boosters to controlled landings — rather than having them plummet unguided back to Earth downrange — and the Falcon 9's use of autonomous flight safety system made the polar launch trajectory from Cape Canaveral feasible.

"What we came up with after we analyzed is SpaceX should be able to do it because of two things," said Wayne Monteith, associate administrator of the FAA's office of commercial space transportation. "No. 1, booster flyback, and No. 2, even more important, is autonomous flight safety because going south, the way the architecture of the command destruct systems are set up terrestrially, you'd be looking right up the plume, and you get signal attenuation, and you may not be able to ... send command destruct.

"So with autonomous flight safety and booster flyback, we were able to provide for them what appeared to be a notional safe corridor from a safety perspective," said Monteith, a former commander of the 45th Space Wing.

Schiess said the 45th Space Wing safety team worked with the FAA to approve the launch trajectory for the SAOCOM 1B. The FAA is charged with ensuring commercial rocket launches do not endanger the public.

Although the Falcon 9 rocket will follow a source that brushes the South Florida coast, population centers in that region will not be at risk from the launch because its "instantaneous impact point" — where debris would fall if the rocket failed — remains offshore due to the vehicle's bending trajectory.

"Miami is not in any of those dangers from any of the launch or the ascent," Schiess said. "It goes out and then starts on its southerly orbit. It will overfly Cuba, but it will be an altitude that we're safe."

The State Department is charged with notifying other countries of a rocket flight over their territories. Those notifications have been made for the SAOCOM 1B mission, according to Schiess.

"In this case, they would potentially overfly Cuba, and potentially overfly Central America," Monteith told Spaceflight Now last year. "The flight corridor we looked at was coming down the Pacific side of South America. So you've got to jog through the isthmus. But you're at an altitude at that point where there's exceptionally minuscule danger or hazard to anybody below."

A satellite launching from Cape Canaveral targeting a polar orbit in 1960 suffered an in-flight failure and spread debris over Cuba, reportedly killing a cow and prompting protests at the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

SpaceX elected to use the polar launch trajectory from Cape Canaveral to allow the company to reduce staffing levels at Vandenberg during a period with few launches there, Gwynne Shotwell, company's president and chief operating officer, told reporters last year.

SAOCOM 1B was previously scheduled for launch in March, but Argentine officials called off the mission due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Engineers placed SAOCOM 1B in storage at Cape Canaveral until early July, when engineers returned to Florida from Argentina to finish readying the spacecraft for liftoff.

The launch of SAOCOM 1B was again delayed from late July because the range was not available for the launch, according to SAOCOM 1B team members. Sources said the delay was caused by range safety and overflight concerns with the classified payload mounted on top of ULA's Delta 4-Heavy rocket at a neighboring launch pad.

The southerly trajectory required for the SAOCOM 1B mission will take the Falcon 9 rocket on a track closer to the Delta 4 pad than for a typical launch toward the east.

The overflight range safety concerns associated with the Delta 4's NRO payload appeared to suddenly evaporate without explanation Saturday, when military officials agreed to permit the SAOCOM 1B launch to go ahead.

A ULA spokesperson said the Delta 4-Heavy and its national security payload were secured after the aborted launch attempt early Saturday morning. The protective mobile gantry at the Delta 4 launch pad was moved back into position around the rocket, and the spokesperson told Spaceflight Now no further securing measures are needed before the SAOCOM 1B mission.

A spokesperson for the 45th Space Wing referred questions about the safety concerns to SpaceX. A SpaceX spokesperson did not respond to questions from Spaceflight Now on the matter.

SpaceX is targeting Sunday, August 30 at 7:18 p.m. EDT, or 23:18 UTC, for Falcon 9's launch of the SAOCOM 1B mission (https://www.spacex.com/static/images/backgrounds/saocom1b_final.jpg), which will carry the SAOCOM 1B spacecraft to orbit in addition to two rideshare payloads, Tyvak-0172 and PlanetiQ's GNOMES-1.

The mission will lift off from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. This mission marks SpaceX's first launch to a polar orbit from the East Coast, and the first polar launch from Florida in decades.

Falcon 9's first stage previously launched Dragon to the International Space Station for SpaceX's 19th and 20th commercial resupply missions, and it also supported launch of SpaceX's ninth Starlink mission. Following stage separation, SpaceX will land Falcon 9 on Landing Zone 1 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

SAOCOM 1B will deploy approximately 14 minutes after launch, GNOMES-1 and Tyvak-0172 will deploy approximately 61 and 62 minutes after liftoff. You can watch the launch webcast here (youtu.be/P-gLOsDjE3E), starting about 15 minutes before liftoff.

Основная полезная нагрузка этой миссии - SAOCOM-1B (Satélite Argentino de Observación Con Microondas 🇦🇷) - аргентинский спутник для наблюдения Земли массой 3000 кг. Запуск планируется осуществить в интересах Национальной комиссии по космической деятельности Аргентины (CONAE). Спутник был построен аргентинской компанией INVAP.
Основная цель SAOCOM 1B - обеспечить эффективное зондирования Земли для мониторинга стихийных бедствий (наводнений, извержений вулканов, землетрясений, лесных пожаров и т.д), а также мониторинг сельскохозяйственной деятельности и изменений в океанах, включая мониторинг антарктических районов и изучение континентальных ледников.
Планируется осуществить вывод спутника на солнечно-синхронную орбиту высотой 620 км и наклонением 97,8º. Космический аппарат будет выполнять сканирование поверхности Земли радаром с синтезированной апертурой высокой чёткости (SAR-L) дважды в сутки, получая каждый день 500 изображений земного шара с разрешением от 7 м до 100 м и шириной полосы охвата от 50 до 400 км, от также сможет передавать 225 2D или 3D-изображений поверхности Аргентины в день.
Размеры спутника: 10 м Х 3.5 м (в развёрнутом состоянии радара). Площадь солнечных панелей - 15 м², Спутник имеет мощный радар SAR в L-диапазоне (1,275 ГГц). Он обладает семью антеннами, общей площадью 35 м². Вместе с SAOCOM-1A он сможет обнаруживать объекты размером 7 метров в поперечнике. Космический аппарат оснащён специальным твёрдотельным запоминающим устройством для хранения изображений и системой передачи информации высокой скорости (2 канала по 150 Мбит/с каждый).
Проект спутников класса SAOCOM был представлен в 1998 году. В 2002-2008 была выполнена окончательная разработка проекта. Однако запуск обеих миссий сильно задержался.
Контракт со SpaceX на запуск 2-х спутников был первоначально заключен в 2009 году для запуска спутников в 2012 и 2013 годах, но первый запуск был множество раз отложен (из-за сложностей с финансированием у подрядчика). В итоге в 2012 началось строительство первого аппарата SAOCOM-1A. Сборка была завершена к декабрю 2017 года, и после всех испытаний, 8 октября 2018 года спутник был успешно запущен на ракете Falcon 9 с космодрома Ванденберг в Калифорнии.
Спутник SAOCOM-1B тоже ждал долгий путь к запуску, изначально его планировали также запустить с Ванденберга в 2019 году, но из-за малой загруженности космодрома операции по запуску было решено перенести во Флориду. Новая дата запуска была назначена на март 2020, но из-за пандемии коронавируса и невозможности аргентинским специалистам прибыть во Флориду, запуск был отложен до августа 2020. SAOCOM-1B присоединится к своему брату-близнецу SAOCOM-1A для совместной работы на орбите.
С 2000 года SAOCOM является совместным проектом CONAE и ASI (Космического агентства Италии). С этой целью было подписано соглашение о создании SIASGE - итальяно-аргентинской спутниковой системы для контроля чрезвычайных ситуаций. В этой системе также участвуют NASA, ESA и CSA. В конечном итоге SIASGE будет включать в себя не менее десяти спутников, 4 аргентинских спутника SAOCOM и 6 итальянских COSMO-SkyMed. Ожидается, что к середине 2020-х годов группировка будет дополнена ещё двумя спутниками SAOCOM-2A и SAOCOM-2B.

В качестве вторичной полезной нагрузки в рамках данной миссии планируется вывести на орбиту малый спутник GNOMES-1 компании PlanetiQ массой 30 кг для наблюдения за погодой.
GNOMES-1 - аппарат планируемой группировки небольших спутников для прогнозирования погоды, исследования климата и мониторинга космической погоды. Производитель спутника: Blue Canyon Technologies из Боулдера, штат Колорадо. Космический аппарат будет работать на орбите высотой около 650 км при наклонении 72°. GNOMES-1 представляет из себя метеоспутник для наблюдения за погодой с помощью отслеживания радиосигналов от различных навигационных спутников систем.
Первоначально спутники группировки задумывались массой более 120 кг, позднее она была уменьшена до 20 кг и формата 6U-кубсатов. Одним из компромиссов, которые PlanetiQ пришлось пойти из-за перехода на спутники меньшего размера, стал отказ от системы ретрансляции данных в реальном времени, по крайней мере, на первых шести спутниках. Вместо этого спутники будут использовать сеть наземных станций. В 2018 году PlanetiQ снова увеличила размер спутников до 30 кг, поскольку формат 6U оказался слишком маленьким для оборудования обеспечивающие желаемое качество получаемых данных.
GNOMES-1 оборудован собственной системой зондирования атмосферы Pyxis Global Positioning System (GPS) компании PlanetiQ. Pyxis, который измеряет сигналы от всех четырёх основных группировок GNSS-спутников (GPS, ГЛОНАСС, Galileo и Beidou), когда эти сигналы проходят через атмосферу Земли. Эти измерения обеспечивают зондирование атмосферы, которое может быть использовано в моделях прогнозирования погоды.
В будущем на спутниках PlanetiQ планируют использовать новое оборудование включая микроволновый спектрометр активной температуры для изучения озонового слоя Земли и климатических условий (ATOMMS) и микроволновый радиометр следующего поколения.
Компания планирует запустить до 20 спутников класса GNOMES к 2023 году.

Это 6U-кубсат компании Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems, он будет использоваться как метеоспутник для мониторинга погоды по технологии, схожей с GNOMES-1.
Данных о спутнике довольно мало, вероятно, спутник создан на платформе Tyvak 6U Endeavour и его масса около 10 кг, он обеспечен солнечными панелями мощностью 21 Вт. Интересная особенность аппарата - модульная конструкция платформы Tyvak, она позволяет за несколько месяцев сконфигурировать и изготовить космические аппараты массой от 10 до 290 кг.
Спутник будет предоставлять данные о погоде путем измерения изменений навигационных сигналов проходящих сквозь атмосферу. Профили таких измерений обеспечивают надежные измерения ключевых переменных, необходимых для исследования климата, прогнозирования земной и космической погоды.

Необычная траектория запуска потребует, чтобы ракета Falcon 9 сначала летела на юго-юго-восток от Мыса Канаверал над Атлантическим океаном, а затем стала отклоняться на запад, чтобы обогнуть побережье Южной Флориды. Известный как манёвр "изгиба", такой "поворот" гарантирует, что траектория ракеты не пройдёт по населённым районам Флориды ( vk.cc/ayWVGJ ). Южная траектория, требуемая для запуска миссии SAOCOM-1B будет проходить ближе к стартовой площадке ракеты Delta 4 Heavy, чем при обычном запуске на восток. ВАШИНГТОН, 31 авг – РИА Новости. Ракета-носитель Falcon 9 стартовала во Флориде с аргентинским спутником зондирования Земли SAOCOM, компания SpaceX ведет прямую трансляцию запуска.

Пуск ракеты-носителя состоялся в 19.18 по времени восточного побережья  США (2.18 мск) с космодрома на мысе Канаверал. Как сообщила компания перед стартом, в запуске используется многоразовая первая ступень Falcon 9, для нее это четвертый полет. Традиционно для своих запусков SpaceX планирует вновь сохранить первую ступень ракеты-носителя.

Спутник SAOCOM 1B был создан аргентинским космическим агентством CONAE. Он станет вторым в созвездии спутников SAOCOM, предназначенных для слежения за погодными условиями на Земле, в том числе измерением влажности почвы и сбором информации для сельскохозяйственного и лесного сектора Аргентины. Первый спутник SAOCOM 1A был запущен в 2018 году.

Аппарат SAOCOM весит около 3 тонн. Он будет выведен на орбиту высотой около 620 километров над Землей и, как ожидают создатели, удвоит возможности своего предшественника.

Помимо основной миссии, Flacon 9 также выводит на орбиту два малых коммерческих спутника GNOMES 1 и Tyvak 0172. SpaceX сообщила, что эти аппараты будут выведены на орбиту после SAOCOM. Микроспутник GNOMES 1 – первый из планируемых 20 аппаратов, разрабатываемых американской компанией PlanetiQ для анализа влияния атмосферы на сигналы навигационных спутников GPS, ГЛОНАСС, Galileo и Beidou.

SAOCOM 1B MISSION

On Sunday, August 30 at 7:19 p.m. EDT, or 23:19 UTC, SpaceX's Falcon 9 successfully lifted off carrying the SAOCOM 1B mission (https://www.spacex.com/updates/static/images/backgrounds/saocom1b_final.jpg). This mission put the SAOCOM 1B spacecraft into orbit as well as two rideshare payloads, Tyvak-0172 and PlanetiQ's GNOMES-1.

The mission lifted off from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. This mission marks SpaceX's first launch to a polar orbit from the East Coast, and the first polar launch from Florida in decades.
 
Falcon 9's first stage previously launched Dragon to the International Space Station for SpaceX's 19th and 20th commercial resupply missions, and it also supported launch of SpaceX's ninth Starlink mission. Following stage separation, SpaceX landed Falcon 9 on Landing Zone 1 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

SAOCOM 1B deployed approximately 14 minutes after launch. GNOMES-1 and Tyvak-0172 deployed approximately 61 and 62 minutes after liftoff respectively.

This marks the first mission a catcher has scooped both fairing halves. The crane has arrived to remove them and chances are high they will go out for Starlink NET 9/3.
