I have heard murmurs that the test is expected to be only a day or so before launch. Exciting! OCISLY should be leaving in the next 48 hours for the first launch of 2020.

Recovery technicians are experimenting with a fairing half today. I can also confirm that Ms. Chief will not take part in the upcoming Starlink mission. GO Navigator will recover the fairing half from the water.

L-3 day weather forecast unchanged. 60% probability of violation for Friday night and 10% violation potential for Saturday. However, Saturday's POV does not include the upper-level winds, which are EXTREMELY strong.

It may be new year's day but the fleet is hard at work! Here's a look at OCISLY's progress since Monday.

The droneship has deviated away towards calmer seas now that the launch date has slipped to NET Jan 7th at 02:19 UTC. There's no requirement to be at the LZ so early.

Assuming @SpaceX (https://twitter.com/SpaceX) wants to do an integrated stack with no rollback for the scheduled 1/6 Starlink launch, we should see a static fire attempt on 1/4 or 1/5 at the latest. Forecasters predict near-ideal weather conditions Monday night for the first launch at Cape Canaveral this year, when SpaceX plans to send another 60 Starlink broadband satellites into orbit atop a Falcon 9 rocket.

The 60 small satellites will bring the total number of Starlink Internet relay stations launched by SpaceX to 180, giving Elon Musk's space company the world's largest largest fleet of commercial spacecraft.

The launch targeted for Monday, Jan. 6, has been delayed several days, first from Dec. 30 and then from Jan. 3. It will mark the first launch in a packed slate of missions from Cape Canaveral in 2020, which could see more than 30 launches by SpaceX and United Launch Alliance if schedules hold.

The Florida spaceport was the departure point for 16 orbital launches in 2019, plus an atmospheric test flight of NASA's Orion crew capsule to demonstrate the ship's launch abort system.

Liftoff of SpaceX's 229-foot-tall (70-meter) Falcon 9 rocket is set for 9:19 p.m. EST Monday (0219 GMT Tuesday) from Cape Canaveral's Complex 40 launch pad.

The mission will mark the 78th flight of a Falcon 9 rocket since 2010, and the 81st flight of SpaceX's Falcon 9 family, which includes three launches by the triple-core Falcon Heavy vehicle.

A pre-launch test-firing of the Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled this weekend at Cape Canaveral.

The weather team at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station predicts a greater than 90 percent chance of acceptable conditions for launch Monday night.

"Strong and gusty northwest winds behind a frontal passage on Saturday will bring cool and dry weather through the weekend and into early next week," meteorologists from the 45th Weather Squadron wrote in a forecast issued Thursday. "Strong high pressure will build across the southeastern U.S. on Sunday, (and) is forecast to be centered across Florida by Monday night. This will bring dry conditions and light northerly flow for the primary launch window."

The only slight weather concern in the forecast Monday night is with the cumulus cloud rule.

Forecasters expect mostly clear skies, good visibility and northerly winds of 5 to 10 mph at launch time Monday night. The temperature should be around 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

If the launch is delayed to Tuesday night, the liftoff time will move around 20 minutes earlier. There is an 80 percent chance of favorable weather Tuesday night, with slightly higher odds of cloudiness that could breach the cumulus cloud rule.

The launch Monday will kick off a brisk pace of launches by SpaceX planned for 2020 (https://spaceflightnow.com/2019/12/20/spacex-poised-to-accelerate-launch-cadence-with-series-of-starlink-missions/).

Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and chief operating officer, said last month the company could perform as many as 35 to 38 launches this year from three launch pads in Florida and California. That figure does not include potential test flights of SpaceX's next-generation Starship vehicle.

The bulk of SpaceX's missions in 2020 will add satellites to the company's Starlink constellation of broadband satellites.

SpaceX plans to operate the initial block of 1,584 Starlink satellites in orbits 341 miles (550 kilometers) above Earth. The company has regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission to eventually field a fleet of up to 12,000 small Starlink broadband stations, and has hinted in additional regulatory filings that it could seek to operate up to 42,000 Starlink spacecraft.

In response to concerns from astronomers, Shotwell said one of the 60 satellites set for launch Monday will test a new less-reflective coating (https://spaceflightnow.com/2019/12/09/spacex-to-experiment-with-less-reflective-satellite-coatings-on-next-starlink-launch/) designed to reduce the brightness of the spacecraft. The first 120 satellites were brighter than expected, raising worries from scientists that thousands oof Starlink craft could interfere with astronomical observations.

The company says it hopes to begin regional broadband service with the partially-complete Starlink constellation by the middle of this year, once it has launched 12 Starlink missions. Starlink service for Internet consumers worldwide will come after 24 launches, according to Shotwell.

SpaceX has not announced pricing for the Starlink service.

"All I know is you will be far happier with the value of the Starlink service than you are with your current service," Shotwell said in December. "You will, for sure, get way more bandwidth for the same price, or way more bandwidth for less ... You'll be far happier with this. The value will be far greater (than with current Internet service providers)."

She said SpaceX is building about seven Starlink satellites per day at a factory in Redmond, Washington. Low-volume production of SpaceX's ground user terminals is also underway in California, Shotwell said.

SpaceX is still working out its strategy for commencing Starlink commercial services.

"Between now and June ... we're going to have to figure that out," Shotwell said. "We will do presales like Tesla has done. The initial experience will be bumpy. We'll have early customers be part of that journey with us. We're not going to fib and say it's going to be the best thing ever. When you get service, it's going to be great. But it will be bumpy for a while.

The U.S. military has a contract with SpaceX to demonstrate the Starlink network's ability to deliver data to the cockpit of airplanes, the first of what SpaceX hopes will be a lucrative business selling bandwidth to the Defense Department.

"I think we probably will mature as a provider, and it should not be bumpy, really in '21. By '21, I think we probably will have figured out most of the problems."

SpaceX rolled a Falcon 9 rocket out of its hangar at Cape Canaveral and erected the booster vertical Friday on pad 40 in preparation for a test-firing of its nine first stage engines today.

The two-stage rocket is scheduled for liftoff Monday at 9:19 p.m. EST (0219 GMT Tuesday) on the first launch of the year from Cape Canaveral.

But first, SpaceX plans to run the launcher through a full launch day dress rehearsal Saturday. Teams will load super-chilled, densified kerosene and liquid oxygen propellants into the rocket, then count down to ignition of the first stage's nine Merlin 1D first stage engines.

The kerosene-fed engines will throttle up to generate some 1.7 million pounds of thrust while hold-down restraints keep the Falcon 9 firmly on the ground. The engines will shut down after several seconds, and SpaceX will review data before proceeding with the Falcon 9's planned launch attempt Monday evening.

The mission will carry the next batch of 60 Starlink broadband satellites into orbit for SpaceX.

Если ракета взорвется на старте снова, потеря 60 Старлинков будет наименьшей из возникших проблем.

SpaceX test-fired a Falcon 9 rocket Saturday at Cape Canaveral, two days before a scheduled launch Monday with 60 Starlink broadband relay stations that will make SpaceX the owner of the world's largest fleet of commercial satellites.

With the 60 satellites set for launch Monday, SpaceX will have delivered 180 signal relay stations to orbit for the company's Starlink Internet network.

That will make SpaceX the owner of more commercial satellites than any other company, exceeding the record set by San Francisco-based Planet, which operates a constellation of small Earth-observing satellites.

A Planet spokesperson said in November the company had roughly 120 operational nanosatellites in its fleet. Planet has launched an additional 20 larger SkySat and RapidEye Earth-imaging spacecraft, bringing its entire fleet size to no more than around 140 satellites.

With around 75 operational satellites, SES owns the third-most spacecraft currently in commercial service, and has the biggest fleet of large commercial broadcast and broadband satellites in geostationary orbit. Iridium has 70 of its new-generation voice and data relay satellites in operational service or filling backup roles.

SpaceX's Starlink satellites have a flat-panel design and each weigh about a quarter-ton, significantly smaller than the spacecraft owned by SES and Iridium. But SpaceX aims to launch thousands of Starlink spacecraft in the coming years to provide global Internet service, creating a mesh-like network around the globe rather than relying on a smaller number of higher-power satellites like traditional geostationary satellite operators.

The launch of the 60 newest Starlink satellites Monday night is set for 9:19 p.m. EST, or 0219 GMT Tuesday, using a Falcon 9 rocket first stage that has been launched and recovered on three previous missions.

There is a greater than 90 percent chance of acceptable weather at Cape Canaveral for launch Monday night, according to the official launch forecast.

The 229-foot-tall (70-meter) Falcon 9 rocket lit its nine Merlin 1D first stage engines Saturday at 12 p.m. EST (1700 GMT) in a customary pre-flight test-firing at Cape Canaveral's Complex 40 launch pad.

In a break from SpaceX's standard practice during Falcon 9 test-firings, the 60 Starlink satellites are already mounted on top of the launcher inside the rocket's payload fairing. Since a Falcon 9 rocket exploded during a pre-flight test-firing in 2016, destroying an Israeli communications satellite, SpaceX has typically performed the static fire tests without the rocket's payload on-board.

That practice could change for future Starlink missions, for which SpaceX is both the launch provider and the payload owner.

The Falcon 9's nine kerosene-fueled Merlin 1D main engines fired for several seconds at pad 40 Saturday, ramping up to full power with 1.7 million pounds of thrust as hold-down clamps kept the launcher firmly on the ground.

SpaceX confirmed a successful static fire test in a tweet Saturday afternoon, and announced that the mission launching Monday will reuse a Falcon 9 booster that previously flew on three missions.

The booster debuted in September 2018 with the launch of the Telstar 18 VANTAGE communications satellite from Cape Canaveral, propelling the Falcon 9's second stage with the hefty spacecraft toward orbit, then landing aboard SpaceX's drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

The first stage flew again in January 2019 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with 10 Iridium voice and data relay satellites, and again landed on a drone ship at sea.

Most recently, the booster launched SpaceX's first batch of 60 broadband satellites from Cape Canaveral in May 2019. After landing for the third time on a SpaceX recovery vessel, the stage was refurbished and readied for its fourth mission set to take off Monday.

SpaceX plans to recover the Falcon 9's first stage again after Monday night's launch, along with the rocket's payload fairing. The company's rocket recovery vessels were dispatched from Port Canaveral to head toward the landing zones in the Atlantic Ocean.

It will take about an hour for the Falcon 9 rocket to deliver the 60 Starlink satellites to orbit a couple hundred miles above Earth.

The Falcon 9 will head northeast from its launch pad at Cape Canaveral, separate its first stage and payload shroud a few minutes after liftoff, then fire its upper stage engine two times to inject the Starlink payloads into orbit.

Retention rods holding the Starlink satellites to the rocket will release to allow the spacecraft to separate from the Falcon 9's upper stage all together. Once uncoupled from the rocket, the satellites will gradually spread out while they begin activating their krypton ion thrusters to begin raising their orbits for testing, eventually targeting an operational altitude of 341 miles (550 kilometers) at an orbital inclination of 53 degrees to the equator.

The launch Monday will kick off a brisk pace of launches by SpaceX planned for 2020 (https://spaceflightnow.com/2019/12/20/spacex-poised-to-accelerate-launch-cadence-with-series-of-starlink-missions/).

Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and chief operating officer, said last month the company could perform as many as 35 to 38 launches this year from three launch pads in Florida and California. That figure does not include potential test flights of SpaceX's next-generation Starship vehicle.

The bulk of SpaceX's missions in 2020 will add satellites to the company's Starlink constellation of broadband satellites. SpaceX has said two additional Starlink launches could take off from Cape Canaveral before the end of January, following Monday's mission.

SpaceX plans to operate the initial block of 1,584 Starlink satellites in orbits 341 miles above Earth. The company has regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission to eventually field a fleet of up to 12,000 small Starlink broadband stations, and has hinted in additional regulatory filings that it could seek to operate up to 42,000 Starlink spacecraft.

In response to concerns from astronomers, Shotwell said one of the 60 satellites set for launch Monday will test a new less-reflective coatin (https://spaceflightnow.com/2019/12/09/spacex-to-experiment-with-less-reflective-satellite-coatings-on-next-starlink-launch/)g designed to reduce the brightness of the spacecraft. The first 120 satellites were brighter than expected, raising worries from scientists that thousands oof Starlink craft could interfere with astronomical observations.

The company says it hopes to begin regional broadband service with the partially-complete Starlink constellation by the middle of this year, once it has launched 12 Starlink missions. Starlink service for Internet consumers worldwide will come after 24 launches, according to Shotwell.

SpaceX has not announced pricing for the Starlink service.

"All I know is you will be far happier with the value of the Starlink service than you are with your current service," Shotwell said in December. "You will, for sure, get way more bandwidth for the same price, or way more bandwidth for less ... You'll be far happier with this. The value will be far greater (than with current Internet service providers)."

She said SpaceX is building about seven Starlink satellites per day at a factory in Redmond, Washington. Low-volume production of SpaceX's ground user terminals is also underway in California, Shotwell said.

SpaceX is still working out its strategy for commencing Starlink commercial services.

"Between now and June ... we're going to have to figure that out," Shotwell said. "We will do presales like Tesla has done. The initial experience will be bumpy. We'll have early customers be part of that journey with us. We're not going to fib and say it's going to be the best thing ever. When you get service, it's going to be great. But it will be bumpy for a while.

The U.S. military has a contract with SpaceX to demonstrate the Starlink network's ability to deliver data to the cockpit of airplanes, the first of what SpaceX hopes will be a lucrative business selling bandwidth to the Defense Department.

"I think we probably will mature as a provider, and it should not be bumpy, really in '21. By '21, I think we probably will have figured out most of the problems."

Почему зря время терять? Прожиг позволяет находить разнообразные потенциальные проблемы, помимо "запустили двигатели - все взорвалось". Если SpX считает последнюю в числе наименее вероятных, прожиг с ПН - более чем осмысленное действие.

SpaceX's launch conductor will verify all members of the launch team are ready to proceed with the final 35-minute automated countdown sequence at 8:41 p.m. EST (0141 GMT), followed by the start of filling the rocket with super-chilled, densified RP-1 kerosene and liquid oxygen propellants at 8:44 p.m. EST (0144 GMT).

Liquid oxygen loading into the second stage will begin at T-minus 16 minutes, at 9:03 p.m. EST (0203 GMT), followed by final chilldown of the rocket's nine Merlin first stage engines, a final pre-flight engine steering check, switching of the rocket to internal power, and pressurization of the Falcon 9's propellant tanks leading up to liftoff.

ВАШИНГТОН, 7 янв – РИА Новости. Ракета-носитель Falcon 9 стартовала во Флориде с группой коммуникационных спутников Starlink, компания SpaceX ведет прямую трансляцию запуска.

Старт ракеты был дан в 5.19 мск во вторник с космодрома на мысе Канаверал (Флорида). Она выводит на орбиту группу из 60 интернет-спутников Starlink. Как сообщила компания, для задействованной в запуске первой ступени ракеты Falcon 9 это четвертый полет.

Спутникам предстоит работать на орбите высотой в 290 километров, на которую они будут выведены с помощью собственных ионных двигателей. Как сообщили в компании, после отделения от несущей их ракеты и до выхода на заданную орбиту специалисты с Земли будут проверять надлежащую работу каждого спутника. В случае успешного вывода на орбиту созвездие спутников Starlink, запуск которых осуществляется с мая 2019 года, увеличится до 180.

Starlink - спутниковая сеть следующего поколения, способная обеспечить жителей Земли широкополосным доступом в интернет. Практическая реализация проекта началась 22 февраля 2018 года, когда Falcon 9 вывела на орбиту два тестовых спутника - Tintin-A и Tintin-B. Всего планируется запустить около 12 тысяч спутников. Дополнительные 30 тысяч спутников планируется вывести на орбиты с высотами от 328 до 580 километров. SpaceX оценивала затраты на реализацию проекта в 10 миллиардов долларов, но эксперты считают эту цифру заниженной.

STARLINK MISSION

On Monday, January 6 at 9:19 p.m. EST, or 2:19 UTC on January 7, SpaceX launched its third launch of Starlink satellites from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

Falcon 9's first stage supported a Starlink mission in May 2019, the Iridium-8 mission in January 2019, and the Telstar 18 VANTAGE mission in September 2018. Following stage separation, SpaceX landed Falcon 9's first stage on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship, which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

Спасательное судно SpaceX вновь не поймало обтекатель ракеты Falcon 9

Москва. 7 января. INTERFAX.RU - Спасательному судну не удалось поймать в надводные сети створки головного обтекателя ракеты Falcon 9 после ее запуска ночью во вторник, сообщила компания-разработчик SpaceX.

Как отмечалось, тяжелая американская ракета-носитель Falcon 9 успешно вывела на орбиту новую партию из 60 мини-спутников, предназначенных для продолжения развертывания глобальной сети интернет-покрытия системы Starlink.

SpaceX планировала с помощью специального судна Ms. Tree поймать хотя бы одну из двух створок обтекателя, которые спускались на парашютах после отделения от ракеты над Атлантикой. Части обтекателя предполагалось использовать для последующих запусков.

В декабре прошлого года два спасательных судна компании - Ms. Tree и Мs. Chief также не успели вовремя прибыть к месту приводнения створок обтекателя ракеты Falcon 9, выводившей на орбиту японско-сингапурский спутник. Виной тому стало сильное волнение на море. При этом судно Мs. Chief получило повреждения. Оно до сих пор находится на ремонте.

Тем временем первая многоразовая ступень ракеты Falcon 9, которая во вторник вывела на орбиту спутники системы Starlink, совершила успешную управляемую посадку на плавучей платформе Of Course I Still Love You ("Конечно, я все еще люблю тебя") у побережья штата Южная Каролина в Атлантике.

GO Navigator is back in port this morning with half of a fairing that was recovered from the ocean. Condition of the fairing is unknown at this time but hopefully it can be refurbished & reused on another mission.

Looks like workers have had problems folding one of the landing legs on B1049.4. They have chosen to dismantle and remove it instead.

V1.0 L2 sats at 360 km and raising (blue) including Darksat (cyan) except for one sat (Starlink 1124, red) which appears to have overcome initial problems and started raising a few days ago. Deployment rods (green) still in orbit.

As expected, the Starlink V1.0-L2 sats launched in January have split into 3 groups of 20. Groups 2 and 3 have paused orbit raising at 350 km to allow their orbital planes to precess, just like 40 of the V1.0-L1 sats did. Group 1 continues orbit raising and is now at 380 km.

A second Starlink satellite has reentered (358 still in orbit). Starlink-1118 was launched in January,  raised altitude to the 350 km parking orbit, but on Feb 5 lowered itself back down to 300 km and then began orbital decay on Mar 16, with reentry on Apr 2.
