Cape Canaveral, FL. 14 November 2019 – The Kacific1 communications satellite, built by Boeing, has arrived at SpaceX facilities in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where it will be launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket to geostationary orbit.

Owned by Kacific Broadband Satellites Group (https://kacific.com/) (Kacific), this next-generation high-throughput Ka-band satellite will stream broadband to 25 nations in South East Asia and the Pacific Islands via 56 spot beams. Kacific1 is based on Boeing's reliable 702MP-satellite platform and will provide the most powerful signal level ever achieved in a commercial satellite in the region.

Christian Patouraux, Kacific CEO, founded the company in 2013 with the vision to provide high speed, affordable and accessible internet to extra-urban, rural and remote users. He saw a critical, unmet need in the Asia Pacific region, where high prices and unsuitable technology were prohibiting access. By combining next-generation satellite technology with a lean business model that cuts out the middleman, Patouraux has developed valuable infrastructure for local organisations and people.

Kacific1 will deliver high-speed broadband services to previously unserved or under-served people in nations where populations are widely dispersed, and therefore expensive to connect. A powerful commercial communications satellite to broadcast Internet signals over the Asia-Pacific region has arrived at Cape Canaveral for final launch preparations ahead of a planned Dec. 15 liftoff on top of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

The JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 communications satellite, based on Boeing's 702MP satellite design, is a shared spacecraft between Sky Perfect JSAT Corp. of Japan and Kacific, a startup telecom company headquartered in Singapore.

Kacific announced the satellites's arrival at Cape Canaveral on Thursday. Ground crews will complete final testing on the spacecraft and load it with maneuvering propellant ahead of its launch next month.

The spacecraft was built at Boeing's satellite factory in El Segundo, California. According to Kacific, the satellite will weigh around 15,000 pounds (6,800 kilograms) fully fueled for launch.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will deploy the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 satellite in an elliptical transfer orbit, then the spacecraft will use its on-board propulsion system to reach a circular geostationary orbit more than 22,000 miles (nearly 36,000 kilometers) over the equator. The satellite will maneuver into a position over the Asia-Pacific to begin a planned 15-year service life.

JSAT will use the satellite's Ku-band capacity to provide communication services over Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region, with a coverage range extending fr om Indonesia and Southeast Asia to coastal China and Eastern Russia.

Kacific's mission will utilize the satellite's Ka-band payload, which includes 56 spot beams delivering up to 60 gigabits per second of data throughput capacity, the company said.

The new satellite will "provide the most powerful signal level ever achieved in a commercial satellite in the (Asia-Pacific) region," Kacific said in a statement. Founded in 2013, Kacific says the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 spacecraft will stream broadband to 25 nations in Southeast Asia and in the Pacific islands, wh ere dispersed populations and rugged terrain pose roadblocks for building terrestrial Internet links.

Kacific says education, health care and emergency response services will benefit from the company's satellite broadband network.

The JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 spacecraft is currently scheduled for launch Dec. 15 from Cape Canaveral's Complex 40 launch pad during a window opening at 7:10 p.m. EST and closing at 8:38 p.m. EST (0010-0138 GMT on Dec. 16).

SpaceX teams at Cape Canaveral have raised a Falcon 9 rocket vertical at Cape Canaveral's Complex 40 launch pad in preparation for a static fire test Friday.

The Falcon 9 will be used to launch a commercial geostationary communications satellite no earlier than Monday at 7:10 p.m. EST (0010 GMT Tuesday).

But first, SpaceX plans to perform a hold-down test-firing of the Falcon 9's first stage Merlin engines later today. The test-firing is a customary pre-launch checkout before every SpaceX mission, providing a test of launch vehicle systems and a rehearsal for the company's launch team.

The Falcon 9 was raised vertical at pad 40 overnight without its satellite payload or fairing. Assuming a successful static fire test today, SpaceX will return the rocket to its hangar near pad 40 for attachment of the Boeing-built JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 communications satellite, which is already encapsulated inside the Falcon 9's payload shroud.

In preparation for today's static fire test, SpaceX will load super-chilled, densified kerosene and liquid oxygen propellants into the two-stage Falcon 9 rocket. The countdown will proceed through the final steps before launch, including retraction of the strongback structure into position for liftoff and pressurization of the rocket's propellant tanks.

The nine Merlin 1D engines at the bottom of the Falcon 9's first stage will ignite for several seconds, throttling up to full power to generate some 1.7 million pounds of thrust as hold-down restraints keep the rocket firmly on the ground.

SpaceX engineers will perform a data review after the static fire as technicians at Cape Canaveral roll the rocket back to the hangar and prepare to mate it with the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 communications satellite.

The mission set for launch Monday will mark SpaceX's 13th flight of the year, and the second in 11 days from the same launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

Forecasters are predicting a 90 percent chance of acceptable weather for Monday night's Falcon 9 launch window at Cape Canaveral, which opens at 7:10 p.m. EST (0010 GMT Tuesday).

"High pressure across the region will slide east into the Atlantic on Monday, allowing increasing southeasterly flow along the Space Coast," forecasters from the U.S. Air Force's 45th Weather Squadron wrote in today's outlook. "Conditions look to remain dry for the launch window with only a few cumulus clouds."

Conditions during the launch window should be partly cloudy with southeasterly winds of 15 to 20 mph, and a temperature of around 73 degrees Fahrenheit.

If the launch is delayed to Tuesday, weather conditions are forecast to worsen. The forecast Tuesday night predicts a 50 percent chance of acceptable conditions for liftoff.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket is set for liftoff fr om Cape Canaveral on Monday, heading due east over the Atlantic Ocean to deliver the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 communications satellite into orbit around 33 minutes later.

The 229-foot-tall (70-meter) rocket is poised for launch from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida at 7:10 p.m. EST Monday (0010 GMT Tuesday) at the opening of an 88-minute launch window.

Perched atop the rocket is the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 communications satellite, a spacecraft manufactured by Boeing in El Segundo, California, and jointly owned by Sky Perfect JSAT Corp. of Tokyo and Kacific Broadband Satellites of Singapore.

The JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 satellite weighs 15,335 pounds (6,956 kilograms) with its propellant tanks fully loaded, making it one of the heaviest satellites ever launched by SpaceX.

After deployment from the upper stage of the Falcon 9 rocket in an elliptical transfer orbit, the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 spacecraft will use its on-board hydrazine-fueled engine to boost itself into a circular geostationary orbit more than 22,000 miles (nearly 36,000 kilometers) over the equator.

The JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 spacecraft will park itself in geostationary orbit at 150 degrees east longitude, wh ere it will operate over a fixed geographic position during its 15-year mission.

Sky Perfect JSAT will use its Ku-band capacity on the satellite to support mobile and broadband services over Japan, the Asia-Pacific and far eastern Russia. Kacific's portion of the satellite's Ka-band payload will provide Internet service to under-served populations across Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands.

The Falcon 9 first stage booster set to loft the JCSAT 18/Kacific 1 payload has flown twice before on a pair of space station resupply missions earlier this year. The timeline below outlines the launch sequence for the Falcon 9 flight with JCSAT 18/Kacific 1.

Fueling of the Falcon 9 rocket is expected to begin at 6:35 p.m. EST (2335 GMT), three minutes after a planned readiness check by SpaceX's launch conductor to verify the launch vehicle, payload and weather are "go" for liftoff.

Super-chilled, densified kerosene and liquid oxygen will be simultaneously pumped into the Falcon 9's first stage beginning at T-minus 35 minutes. Liquid oxygen will begin flowing into the second stage at T-minus 16 minutes.

In the final 10 minutes of the countdown, an automatic sequencer will command the Falcon 9's first stage engines to be chilled in preparation for ignition, the rocket's navigation computer will be configured for flight, its upper stage engine will run through a steering profile, and the launch pad's strongback will be retracted around 1.5 degrees away from the rocket.

JCSAT-18/KACIFIC1 MISSION

On Monday, December 16 at 7:10 p.m. EST, SpaceX launched JCSAT-18/Kacific1 from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. The satellite was deployed approximately 33 minutes after liftoff.

Falcon 9's first stage for the JCSAT-18/Kacific1 mission previously supported the CRS-17 mission in May 2019 and the CRS-18 mission in July 2019. Following stage separation, SpaceX landed Falcon 9's first stage on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship, which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

INTERFAX.RU - Американская ракета-носитель Falcon 9 во вторник успешно вывела на геостационарную орбиту японско-сингапурский телекоммуникационный спутник JCSat-18/Kacific-1, предназначенный для предоставления услуг широкополосного доступа к сети интернет в Азиатско-Тихоокеанском регионе, сообщает компания-разработчик ракеты SpaceX.

Запуск был осуществлен в 03:10 мск с 40-го космического стартового комплекса на авиабазе на мысе Канаверал в штате Флорида.

После отделения от ракеты Falcon 9 первая многоразовая ступень совершила управляемую посадку на плавучей платформе Of Course I Still Love You ("Конечно, я все еще люблю тебя") в 650 км от побережья штата Флорида в Атлантике.

Спутник весом 6,8 тонн, созданный американской корпорацией Boeing, принадлежит японской компании SKY Perfect JSAT Corp. и сингапурской компании Kacific Broadband Satellites. Зона действия спутника будет охватывать и российский Дальний Восток.

На носителе Falcon 9 была использована первая многоразовая ступень, которая прежде уже применялась для запуска двух грузовых кораблей Cargo Dragon компании SpaceX к Международной космической станции, в частности, в мае и июле 2019 года.

Москва. 17 декабря. INTERFAX.RU - Спасательным судам не удалось поймать в надводные сети створки головного обтекателя ракеты Falcon 9 после ее запуска во вторник с авиабазы на мысе Канаверал, сообщила в твиттере компания-разработчик SpaceX.

SpaceX планировала впервые "поймать" две половинки обтекателя, которые спускались на парашютах после отделения от ракеты над Атлантикой, с помощью специальных судов Ms. Tree и Мs. Chief. Прежние попытки сделать это после запусков ракет SpaceX не удавались из-за неблагоприятных условий на море.

"Ms. Tree и Мs. Chief чуть-чуть не успели поймать половинки обтекателя. Команда работает над тем, чтобы восстановить их для возможного использования при будущем запуске", - говорится в сообщении компании.

Тем временем первая многоразовая ступень после отделения от ракеты Falcon 9 совершила успешную управляемую посадку на плавучей платформе Of Course I Still Love You ("Конечно, я все еще люблю тебя") в 650 км от побережья штата Флорида в Атлантике.

Two satellite payloads will provide internet access to underserved regions

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Dec. 16, 2019 — A Boeing [NYSE: BA]-built satellite called JCSAT-18/Kacific1 will provide affordable internet access and other communications services to underserved parts of Asia and the Pacific islands.

The satellite launched today from Cape Canaveral, Florida at about 7:10 p.m. It will enter service several weeks after on-orbit tests and moving to its final geostationary orbit position over the Asia-Pacific region.

Built on Boeing's 702 satellite platform, JCSAT-18/Kacific1 has two separate payloads for two customers, SKY Perfect JSAT of Tokyo and Kacific Broadband Satellites Group of Singapore. The satellite will deliver internet services to a potential market comprising hundreds of millions of people in more than 25 countries, including remote islands in the Pacific and the far eastern part of Russia.

"JCSAT-18/Kacific1 is going to make a difference in the lives of millions of people throughout the Asia Pacific region," said Chris Johnson, president, Boeing Satellite Systems International. "We are proud to support SKY Perfect JSAT and Kacific as they seek to bring positive change through connectivity in regions that have been traditionally underserved."

JCSAT-18/Kacific1 is the 13th satellite Boeing has built for SKY Perfect JSAT and the first satellite built for Kacific.
