NEW DELHI: The Space Commission (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Space-Commission) has given approval to Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/ISRO)) to develop a semi-croygenic engine, which will increase the lifting capability of its GSLV (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/GSLV) Mk III rocket by one tonne.
 
Talking to TOI about the new project, Isro chairman K Sivan (https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/K-Sivan) said, "After a presentation before the Space Commission, Isro has got the approval for developing the semi-cryogenic rocket stage. The deadline to develop this stage is 29 months. Once the stage is ready, the carrying capability of GSLV Mk III will increase from the existing four tonnes to five tonnes."
 
Explaining the project, Sivan said, "A GSLV Mk III rocket comprises two strap-on boosters (to provide thrust during a launch), middle stage that carries liquid fuel nitrogen tetroxide and unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine, and the second stage, which consists of a cryogenic engine. Once the semicryogenic stage is developed, we will simply replace the middle liquid fuel stage with it. The new stage is likely to be an exact fit and the rocket will look like the earlier one from outside."
 
He said, "The first launch of Isro's heaviest rocket GSLV Mk III DI last year carried 3.1 tonne weight. The second launch of Mk III D2, scheduled in July this year and which will carry Gsat-29 satellite, will have the load capability of 3.7 tonnes. We can easily raise the weight up to 4 tonne. With the semicryogenic stage, the same rocket will be able to carry the load up to five tonne. With the increased capability, we don't have to depend on foreign spaceports to launch our satellites weighing over 5 tonnes."

శ్రీహరికోట, న్యూస్‌టుడే: భారత అంతరిక్ష పరిశోధన సంస్థ (ఇస్రో) జియోసింక్రనస్‌ ఉపగ్రహ ప్రయోగ వాహక నౌక (జీఎస్‌ఎల్‌వీ)-మార్క్‌3డీ2 ప్రయోగానికి సన్నాహాలు చేస్తోంది. శ్రీ పొట్టి శ్రీరాములు నెల్లూరు జిల్లాలోని సతీశ్‌ ధవన్‌ అంతరిక్ష కేంద్రం షార్‌ నుంచి ఈ నెల 14న ఈ రాకెట్‌ని ప్రయోగిస్తున్న విషయం తెలిసిందే. ప్రయోగానికి ముందు నిర్వహించే రిహార్సల్‌ కార్యక్రమాన్ని ఆదివారం చేపట్టనున్నారు. సోమవారం రాకెట్‌ సన్నద్ధత సమావేశం (ఎంఆర్‌ఆర్‌), లాంచ్‌ ఆథరైజేషన్‌ బోర్డు (ల్యాబ్‌) సమీక్ష జరగనుంది. మంగళవారం మధ్యాహ్నం 3.38 గంటలకు కౌంట్‌డౌన్‌ ప్రారంభం అవుతుంది.  ఈ వాహక నౌక 3,600 కిలోల బరువైన జీశాట్‌-29 ఉపగ్రహాన్ని కక్ష్యలోకి మోసుకెళుతుంది. ప్రధానమంత్రి డిజిటల్‌ ఇండియా కార్యక్రమంలో భాగంగా జీశాట్‌-29 ఉపగ్రహాన్ని ప్రయోగిస్తున్నారు. దీని ద్వారా గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాలకు (విలేజ్‌ రిసోర్స్‌ సెంటర్లకు) హైస్పీడ్‌ అంతర్జాల సేవలను చేరువ చేయాలనేది లక్ష్యం.

Сегодня репетиция GSLV-Mark3 D2

Шрихарикота, обновленно: Индийская организация космических исследований (ISRO) планирует запустить ракету-носитель GSLV Mark3 D2. Ракета должна быть запущена в среду, 14 ноября, из Космического центра им. Сатиша Дхавана, недалеко от Неллора. Репетиция пуска будет проведена в воскресенье. По итогам репетиции в понедельник состоится совещание по готовности ракеты-носителя к полёту (MRR), также будут рассмотрены вопросы авторского надзора. Обратный отсчет начнется в 03:38 во вторник. Ракета-носитель должна вывести на орбиту спутник GSAT-29 массой 3600 кг. Премьер-министр запустит спутник GSAT-29 в рамках программы "Цифровая Индия". Спутник предназначен для обеспечения сельских районов доступом к высокоскоростным интернет-услугам.

The GSLV MkIII-D2 mission is scheduled to launch India's high throughput communication satellite, GSAT-29 tentatively on November 14, 2018 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota subject to weather conditions.

GSLV MkIII-D2 will inject the satellite into GTO with required inclination to the equator. The satellite will be placed in its final Geostationary Orbit (GEO) using the onboard propulsion system. It may take few days after separation from launcher to reach its orbital slot.

GSLV MkIII is a three-stage heavy lift launch vehicle developed by ISRO. The vehicle has two solid strap-ons as first stage, a liquid propellant core as second stage and a cryogenic as third stage. GSLV Mk III is designed to carry 4 ton class of satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) or about 10 tons to Low Earth Orbit (LEO), which is about twice the capability of GSLV Mk II.

GSAT-29 (https://www.isro.gov.in/Spacecraft/gsat-29) is a communication satellite weighing 3423 kg. The spacecraft will be located at 55 °E longitude and designed for a mission life of 10 years.

Amid cyclone, rain threat, ISRO readies of GSLV-MkIII/GSAT-29 mission on Nov 14

Chennai, Nov 12 (UNI) The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) would launch its high throughput communication satellite GSAT-29 on November 14 from the spaceport of Sriharikota, about 100 km from here, subject to weather conditions.

ISRO sources told UNI that the 3,423 kg satellite would be launched by India's heavy lift launch vehicle GSLV-MkIII-D2 at 1708 hrs from the SHAR Range.

With the Met office predicting heavy rains from the afternoon of Wednesday in view of Cyclonic storm 'Gaja' over the Bay of Bengal, which would cross the North Tamilnadu between Nagapattinam and Chennai as a Cyclonic Storm during the forenoon of November 15, the sources said weather would not be a concern.

The all weather proof Launch pad and the launch vehicle would withstand the conditions and there would not be any hitch in the lift off as the cyclonic storm was expected to cross only on Thursday. 'As of now the launch is scheduled at 1708 hrs', the sources said, adding, the countdown process for the launch, during which propellant filling operations would take place, would start once the Launch Authorisation Board meet at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre and cleared the mission.

GSLV MkIII-D2 would inject the satellite into GTO at an orbit of about 36,000 km with an inclination of 21.5 deg to the equator. The satellite will be placed in its final Geostationary Orbit (GEO) using the onboard propulsion system. It would take a few days after separation from launcher to reach its orbital slot.

The second orbital test flight of India's GSLV Mk.3 launcher is set for Wednesday, when it will hoist a high-throughput communications satellite into orbit to connect the county's remote population and demonstrate new data relay capabilities.

Boosted by two powerful strap-on solid rocket motors, the nearly 143-foot-tall (43.5-meter) Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk.3 (GSLV Mk.3) is set for liftoff from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Center on India's east coast at 1138 GMT (6:38 a.m. EST) Wednesday.

The launch is scheduled for 5:08 p.m. local time at the Indian spaceport.

It will be the third test flight of the GSLV Mk.3, India's most powerful rocket, following a suborbital demonstration in 2014 and an orbital launch in 2017. Both missions were successful, and assuming Wednesday's launch goes according to plan, the GSLV Mk.3 will be declared operational and Indian officials will approve plans to place the Chandrayaan 2 lunar lander on the rocket's next flight as soon as January.

Indian space program managers earlier this year moved the Chandrayaan 2 launch from the less capable GSLV Mk.2 rocket to the GSLV Mk.3 to accommodate mass growth on the lunar mission.

"This mission is the second developmental flight of GSLV Mk.3, and this is an important mission for the GSLV Mk.3 program, as after the success of this mission, GSLV Mk.3 will be declared as operational and will join the group of operational vehicles PSLV and GSLV," said K. Sivan, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization.

Designed GSLV Mk.3-D2, Wednesday's test flight will send the GSAT 29 communications satellite into an elliptical geostationary transfer orbit, on the way to a final position in geostationary orbit more than 22,000 miles (nearly 36,000 kilometers) over the equator.

"The payload for GSLV Mk.3-D2 is the very advanced high-throughput satellite GSAT 29. It is a multi-band, multi-beam communications satellite with a liftoff mass of 3.4 tonnes (about 7,500 pounds)," Sivan said. "GSAT 29 payloads are catered to the communications requirements of users from Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern regions of India. Apart from these operational requirements, the satellite will be demonstrating several new and critical technologies also."

Sivan told Indian media the satellite will also carry tech demo payloads to investigate laser communications links between two satellites in space. Laser, or optical, data links provide a significantly faster way to relay information than conventional radio communications.

The GSLV Mk.3 rocket will lift off powered by two 86-foot-long (26.2-meter) S200 solid rocket boosters, generating a combined 2.2 million pounds of thrust. A core stage driven by two hydrazine-fueled Vikas engines will ignite at T+plus 1 minute, 50 seconds, followed by burnout and separation of the strap-on boosters at T+plus 2 minutes, 19 seconds, after they each burn through their supply of more than 225 tons (205 metric tons) of pre-packed solid propellants.

The twin Vikas engines will fire until T+plus 5 minutes, 15 seconds, each producing around 190,000 pounds of thrust. The liquid-fueled powerplants are new higher-thrust variants of the Vikas engine, an upgrade that debuted on a GSLV Mk.2 launch in March and is flying on the GSLV Mk.3 for the first time Wednesday.

An upper stage engine consuming cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellants will ignite at T+plus 5 minutes, 21 seconds, moments after separation of the GSLV Mk.3's core stage. The upper stage engine will burn until T+plus 16 minutes, 28 seconds, to place the GSAT 29 spacecraft in a transfer orbit with a low point of 118 miles (190 kilometers), a high point of 22,353 miles (35,975 kilometers), and an inclination of 21.5 degrees.

The GSAT 29 satellite, based on ISRO's I-3K spacecraft design, will use an on-board thruster to circularize its orbit over the equator at 55 degrees east longitude for a 10-year mission.

GSAT 29 carries Ku-band and Ka-band spot beams aimed at remote parts of northwest and northeast India, beaming signals to a large population, particularly in hilly and geographically inaccessible regions, according to ISRO.

The satellite's technology demonstration function focuses on the testing of a new optical communications capability, a Q-band and V-band communications payload, and a high-resolution camera.

The GSLV Mk.3 rocket can lift up to 4 metric tons — about 8,800 pounds — to a geostationary transfer orbit, the drop-off orbit for most large telecom satellites heading for perches more than 22,000 miles over the equator.

For a mission to low Earth orbit a few hundred miles above the planet, ISRO says the GSLV Mk.3 can carry 10 metric tons, or about 22,000 pounds.

That is more than the lift capability of United Launch Alliance's basic Atlas 5 rocket configuration without strap-on boosters, but well short of the capacity of the Atlas 5's more powerful versions, the Ariane 5, and SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket.

GSLV MkIII-D2 successfully launches GSAT-29

India's GSAT-29 communication satellite was successfully launched by the second developmental flight of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle MarkIII (GSLV MkIII-D2) on Wednesday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota.

GSLV MkIII-D2 lifted off from the Second Launch Pad of SDSC SHAR at 17:08 hours (IST), carrying the 3423-kg GSAT-29 satellite. About 17 minutes later, the vehicle injected the satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) as planned.

After injection, ISRO's Master Control Facility at Hassan has assumed the control of the satellite. In the coming days, three orbit raising manoeuvers will be executed to position the satellite in the Geostationary Orbit at its designated location.

GSLV Mk III is a three-stage heavy lift launch vehicle developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Two massive boosters with solid propellant constitute the first stage, the core with liquid propellant form the second stage and the cryogenic engine completes the final stage.

GSAT-29 is a multiband, multi-beam communication satellite, intended to serve as test bed for several new and critical technologies. Its Ku-band and Ka-band payloads are configured to cater to the communication requirements of users including those from remote areas especially from Jammu & Kashmir and North-Eastern regions of India.

In addition, the Q/V-Band communication payload onboard is intended to demonstrate the future high throughput satellite system technologies. Geo High Resolution Camera will carry out high resolution imaging. Optical Communication Payload will demonstrate data transmission at a very high rate through optical communication link.

After the successful launch, ISRO Chairman Dr K Sivan said: "India has achieved significant milestone with our heaviest launcher lifting off the heaviest satellite from the Indian soil. The launch vehicle has precisely placed the satellite in its intended orbit. I congratulate entire ISRO team for this achievement."

Declaring GSLV MKIII operational, Dr Sivan announced that Chandrayaan-2 and Gaganyaan missions will be launched by this heavy-lifter.

Jayakumar B, Mission Director, GSLV Mark III said it is the guidance of the Mentors at ISRO that helped the team to march ahead while facing obstacles. "The industry partners too played a key role in this mission," he said.

K Pankaj Damodar, Project Director, GSAT-29 said the launch will help to bridge the digital divide. He also said several next generation payload technologies will be demonstrated with this mission soon.

The success of GSLV MkIII-D2 marks an important milestone in Indian space programme towards achieving self-reliance in launching heavier satellites. The success of this flight also signifies the completion of the experimental phase of GSLV Mark III.

The first successful mission of GSLV Mark III was an experimental suborbital flight in 2014. Subsequently, GSLV Mark III-D1 launched GSAT-19, a high throughput communication satellite, with a lift-off mass of 3150 kg, into GTO on June 5, 2017.

НЬЮ-ДЕЛИ, 14 ноября. /ТАСС/. Индийская организация космических исследований (ИСРО) произвела в среду успешный запуск нового спутника связи GSAT-29. Как сообщает телеканал NDTV, спутник вывела на орбиту индийская ракета-носитель GSLV Mk-III-D2 с космодрома Шрихарикота, расположенного на острове в Бенгальском заливе.

По данным телеканала, спутник весом 3423 кг должен помочь обеспечить связью и интернетом отдаленные районы страны, в том числе горные регионы штата Джамму и Кашмир, а также северо-восточной Индии. Кроме того, спутник будет вести наблюдение за земной поверхностью и акваторией Индийского океана.

Как сообщает NDTV, это уже 67-й космический запуск со Шрихарикоты, а GSAT-29 стал 33-м спутником связи, сделанным в Индии.

Orbit Determination results from this LAM firing are:

• Apogee X perigee height was changed from 35897 km X 189 km  to 35745 km X 7642 km.
• Inclination was changed from 21.46 deg to 8.9 deg.
