Eutelsat 8 West B [Thales Alenia]

Eutelsat Communications announced the order of a of a new Spacebus 4000 C3 (http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sat/aeosp_spacebus-c-class.htm) satellite fr om Thales Alenia Space in October 2012. Called Eutelsat 8 West B, the high-capacity spacecraft will be launched in 2015 to 8° West, joining satellites already operated at the adjacent 7° West position by Eutelsat and the Egyptian satellite company, Nilesat. Broadcasting services from both positions are received by satellite TV homes with a single small Direct-to-Home dish.
With a rapidly growing audience and channel line-up, the 7/8° West video neighbourhood is one of the most dynamic in the global satellite TV market. Over 30 million homes in North Africa and the Middle East are already equipped for DTH reception of more than 800 Arabic and international channels broadcast at this position by Eutelsat and Nilesat. Free-to-air accounts for the majority of the offer (500 channels), while HD take-up is accelerating, currently representing 50 channels. The additional capacity will meet further expansion in a satellite broadcasting market wh ere capacity demand for video services is forecast to grow by 6.8% a year over the coming five years (source Euroconsult). HDTV channels are expected to increase fourfold over the coming ten years.
The Eutelsat 8 West B satellite will be equipped with 40 operational Ku-band transponders designed primarily to serve DTH markets in North Africa and the Middle East. It will also introduce a C-band mission to 8° West, with 10 operational transponders connected to footprints covering the African continent and reaching west to South America.
To respond to the popularity of the 7/8° West neighbourhood, Eutelsat will redeploy an existing high-power Ku-band satellite to 8° West in 2013. This will increase resources in advance of the launch of Eutelsat 8 West B, enabling more broadcasters to benefit from a prime neighbourhood.

ЦитироватьArianespace's new Ariane 5 launch campaign begins for an August mission with Eutelsat and Intelsat satellites

  June 29, 2015 – Ariane Flight VA225
The fourth Ariane 5 for liftoff in 2015 has begun its integration process at the Spaceport, maintaining Arianespace's mission pace during another busy year of launch activity fr om its French Guiana operational base.
This heavy-lift vehicle will be used for Flight VA225 in August, which will deliver two relay satellites – EUTELSAT 8 West B and Intelsat 34 – to geostationary transfer orbit.  The mission's designation signifies Ariane's 225th mission since the European-built series of launch vehicles began operation in 1979.
Build-up of the Ariane 5 is following well-established procedures at the Spaceport, with its cryogenic core stage initially positioned over one of two operational launch tables, followed by the mating of two solid propellant boosters.  This occurred in the Spaceport's Ariane 5 Launcher Integration Building, clearing the way for an initial vehicle "top-off" with installation of its cryogenic upper stage and equipment bay atop the core stage.
Ariane 5 will then be made ready for transfer to the Spaceport's Final Assembly Building, wh ere the EUTELSAT 8 West B and Intelsat 34 payloads are to be installed.  The Final Assembly Building currently is occupied by another Ariane 5 that will be rolled out next week for Arianespace's Flight VA224, which is to loft the Star One C4 telecommunications satellite for Brazil and Europe's MSG-4 meteorological platform on July 8.
For Flight VA225, EUTELSAT 8 West B will occupy the upper passenger position in Ariane 5's dual-payload configuration.  It is designed to bring powerful new satellite broadcasting resources for the Middle East and North Africa, utilizing a 5.8-metric-ton-class relay platform manufactured by Thales Alenia Space.
Equipped with 40 operational Ku-band transponders designed primarily to serve direct-to-home (DTH) markets, the high-capacity EUTELSAT 8 West B spacecraft is to be located at a geostationary orbit slot of 8 deg. West, joining satellites already operated at the adjacent 7 deg. West position by Eutelsat and the Egyptian satellite company Nilesat.

One of Ariane 5's two solid propellant boosters for Flight VA225 is transferred from the Spaceport's preparation area for integration with the vehicle's core cryogenic stage in the Launcher Integration Building.

Supporting the dynamic "digital neighborhood" for Eutelsat TV relay services
EUTELSAT 8 West B also will introduce a C-band mission to the 8 deg. West orbital slot, with 10 operational transponders connected to footprints covering the African continent and reaching west to South America.
Eutelsat Communications – which will operate EUTELSAT 8 West B after its launch by Arianespace – calls the 7/8 deg. West "video neighborhood" one of the most dynamic in the global satellite TV market, with a rapidly growing audience and channel line-up. An estimated 52 million homes in North Africa and the Middle East already are equipped for DTH reception of more than 1,200 Arabic and international channels broadcast at this position by Eutelsat and Nilesat.
Flight VA225's other passenger, Intelsat 34, will be installed in the lower payload position on Ariane 5 and is to have a liftoff mass of more than 3 metric tons.  Specially designed to meet the media distribution requirements of leading programmers for Latin America, this satellite also will support advanced broadband service to maritime and aeronautical providers serving the North Atlantic.

A 15-year in-orbit service life for Intelsat 34
Intelsat 34 was built by SSL (Space Systems/Loral) of Palo Alto, California and is designed to deliver service for 15 years or longer.  It will bring replacement relay capacity for two other satellites at 304.5 degrees East longitude.
The Ariane 5 mission with Intelsat 34 and EUTELSAT 8 West B is to be the seventh Arianespace flight of 2015 with the company's launcher family, composed of the heavy-lift Ariane 5, medium-lift Soyuz and light-lift Vega.
In addition to Arianespace's upcoming Flight VA224 mission with Ariane 5 on July 8, the company's five missions performed so far in 2015 are: Vega Flight VV05 on June 22 with Sentinel-2A; Flight VA223 with Ariane 5 on May 27, orbiting DirecTV-15 and SKY México-1; Ariane 5's Flight VA222 on April 26, carrying THOR 7 and SICRAL 2; Soyuz Flight VS11 on March 27, which orbited two Galileo Full Operational Capability satellites; and Vega Flight VV04 on February 11, performing a suborbital mission with the Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle (IXV) spaceplane.

The Ariane 5 for Arianespace's Flight VA225 approaches the Final Assembly Building during today's transfer fr om the Spaceport's Launcher Integration Building in French Guiana – where this vehicle underwent its initial build-up by prime contractor Airbus Safran Launchers.

  August 3, 2015 – Ariane Flight VA225
Arianespace has received the Ariane 5 for its fourth heavy-lift flight of 2015 with the transfer of this assembled launcher to the Spaceport's Final Assembly Building – wh ere the mission's EUTELSAT 8 West B and Intelsat 34 satellite payloads will be installed.
Today's rollout from the Launcher Assembly Building marked the Ariane 5's handover from prime contractor Airbus Safran Launchers to Arianespace, and is another milestone leading to the planned liftoff on August 20 from French Guiana.
Arianespace will now oversee the payload integration, with Intelsat 34 to be installed as the Ariane 5's lower passenger, and the larger EUTELSAT 8 West B positioned as the upper passenger.
Eutelsat Communications' EUTELSAT 8 West B is a 5.8-metric-ton-class relay platform built by Thales Alenia Space, featuring 40 operational Ku-band transponders that will bring powerful new satellite broadcasting resources to the Middle East and North Africa – primarily to serve direct-to-home markets. It also will introduce a C-band mission to the 8 deg. West orbital slot, with 10 operational transponders connecting to footprints covering the African continent and reaching to South America.
Intelsat 34 was produced for Intelsat by SSL (Space Systems Loral) to meet media distribution requirements of leading programmers for Latin America.   August 7, 2015 – Ariane Flight VA225
(https://img.novosti-kosmonavtiki.ru/222853.jpg)
Intelsat 34 is "topped off" in the Spaceport's S5 payload preparation facility, readying the satellite for its upcoming integration on Ariane 5.

The second passenger for Arianespace's next Ariane 5 flight has been fueled at the Spaceport, completing another major step for the August 20 launch from French Guiana.
This was the final stand-alone operation with the Intelsat 34 satellite before its integration with the launcher, and it occurred in the Spaceport's S5 payload preparation facility – conducted by personnel from spacecraft manufacturer SSL (Space Systems Loral), who were outfitted in specialized protection suits.
The careful process ensured that sufficient propellant was loaded for Intelsat 34's mission lifetime of more than 15 years, while maintaining the satellite's targeted mass of 3,300 kg. at liftoff in the lower position of Ariane 5's dual-passenger payload arrangement.
Intelsat 34 will be utilized by satellite services provider Intelsat to meet the media distribution requirements of leading programmers for Latin America. In addition, the spacecraft will support advanced broadband coverage for maritime and aeronautical providers serving the North Atlantic.
For the August 20 mission on Ariane 5 – designated Flight VA225 in Arianespace's launcher family numbering system – Intelsat 34 is to be delivered to geostationary transfer orbit along with the 5,800-kg.-class EUTELSAT 8 West B broadcast relay platform, which will be operated by Eutelsat and the Egyptian satellite company Nilesat.  EUTELSAT 8 West B was fueled in separate activity at the Spaceport late last month.
Flight VA225 will continue Arianespace's sustained operational pace this year.  In addition to being the company's fourth launch in 2015 with the Ariane 5 heavy-lift workhorse, Arianespace has performed two light-lift Vega missions, along with one utilizing its medium-weight Soyuz vehicle.

VA225 Remplissage IS-34 au S5A le 04/08/2015

By Todd Schilb, Program Manager, Space Systems Acquisition

Part of a series fr om Intelsat team members overseeing the launch of Intelsat 34 (IS-34).

It's great to be back on-site to witness another satellite launch. It really never gets old and I'm happy to be taking up wh ere Mohinder left off and reporting back on the latest at the Guiana Space Center for the remainder of our time here.

I'm excited to report that this week IS-34 completed a major milestone before it moves  to the launch pad for lift-off. That's because we loaded the spacecraft with enough propellants to complete an expected mission life of more than 15 years.

Let me take a step back for a moment and provide some context. Fueling is the last standalone spacecraft operation before we begin integration of the satellite with the launcher. We only undertake this step once we are certain the spacecraft is ready for its on-orbit mission. Over the last several days, as my colleague has been chronicling on the blog, we completed all the tests, reviewed all the data, and turned the spacecraft over to the "propellant team" for the critical loading operation.

The propellant loading operation is one of the most difficult and high precision operations performed on a spacecraft at the launch base.  Due to the hazards and precision required, I'm sure you can imagine that the propellant team is a highly trained, cohesive, dedicated and specialized unit.  They fly in just to perform this dedicated operation at launch bases all around the world. When their job is done, they fly out. It's almost like spacecraft "special operations."

You can see in the photo the specialized suits and precision loading equipment required for this operation.  The suits keep the operators safe from the toxic propellants and provide breathing air throughout the operation – the slightest contact with these chemicals could be deadly. At the same time, the team is measuring every ounce of propellant entering the spacecraft in order to reach our target of 3300 Kg separated spacecraft mass.

Late yesterday, the fueling operation concluded. As is tradition at Guiana Space Center, the entire team celebrated reaching this milestone with a post-fueling barbeque. Next up: we are moving onto the phase of launch preparations when we will integrate the satellite with the launcher.

ЦитироватьThe mission pace continues! Arianespace integrates EUTELSAT 8 West B and Intelsat 34 for next week's Ariane 5 launch

  August 13, 2015 – Ariane Flight VA225
The fourth heavy-lift Ariane 5 for liftoff in 2015 is now complete as Arianespace sustains the mission cadence with its full launcher family, which also includes the medium-weight Soyuz and light-lift Vega.
During activity at the Spaceport's Ariane 5 Final Assembly Building in French Guiana, both passengers for next week's dual-payload mission to geostationary transfer orbit – EUTELSAT 8 West B and Intelsat 34 – have been installed atop their launcher, completing the build-up process.  This clears the way for the final checkout, enabling the launch readiness review on Tuesday, August 18; followed by Ariane 5's rollout to the Spaceport's launch zone on Wednesday, and the next day's liftoff on August 20.
EUTELSAT 8 West B is positioned as the upper passenger on Ariane 5, and will be released first during the flight, followed by Intelsat 34's deployment from the launcher's lower payload position.  The mission's duration is just under 42 minutes from the South American liftoff to deployment of its two satellites.
Built by Thales Alenia Space, the EUTELSAT 8 West B broadcast relay platform will be operated by Eutelsat and the Egyptian satellite company Nilesat, bringing powerful new satellite broadcasting resources to the Middle East and North Africa – primarily to serve direct-to-home markets. This 5.8-metric-ton-class relay platform also will introduce a C-band mission to the 8 deg. West orbital slot, covering the African continent and reaching to South America.
SSL (Space Systems Loral) produced the 3.3-metric-ton Intelsat 34 spacecraft, which will be utilized by satellite services provider Intelsat for the media distribution requirements of leading programmers for Latin America. It also will support advanced broadband coverage for maritime and aeronautical providers serving the North Atlantic.  Intelsat 34 will operate from an orbital slot of 304.5 deg. East.
In addition to activity for the Ariane 5 mission on August 20 – which is designated Flight VA225 in Arianespace's launcher family numbering system – the Spaceport launch base is busy with preparations for several of the company's other upcoming missions.  Another heavy-lift vehicle is taking shape for Flight VA226 at the launch site's Launcher Integration Building for Ariane 5, which will orbit the NBN Co 1A satellite for Australia's National Broadband Network and ARSAT-2 for Argentinean satellite operator ARSAT in September.
At separate locations on the Spaceport, two European Galileo navigation satellites and their Soyuz launcher are being readied for Flight VS12 – scheduled in September as well from French Guiana; while elements are on-hand at the launch base for the Vega vehicle that will loft Europe's LISA Pathfinder on a November mission to explore the Universe.
Overall, Arianespace is planning 11-12 missions during 2015 with its Ariane 5, Soyuz and Vega launcher family.

Это зависит от кучи условий, так как орбита высокоэллиптическая. Может вытянуть ещё сильнее и уронить в океан, а может и поддерживать долгое время, постепенно съедая апогей.
