Eutelsat 21B

Eutelsat Communications announced in June 2010 that it has sel ected Thales Alenia Space to build the 40-transponder Ku-band satellite
Eutelsat W6A enabling a 50% increase in capacity operated at its 21.5° East location in geostationary orbit. Scheduled for launch in third quarter 2012, the satellite will r eplace Eutelsat's W6 (http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/eutelsat-w.htm) craft at a core neighbourhood anchored for data, professional video and government services across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
Weighing in at five tons, the new satellite will be based on the Thales Alenia Space Spacebus C3 (http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sat/aeosp_spacebus-c-class.htm) platform, with a scheduled in-orbit lifetime exceeding 15 years. It will be equipped with one broad footprint sweeping across Europe into North Africa and Central Asia, and two dedicated high-power beams to add increased flexibility for regional coverage of North Africa and the Middle East.
In December 2011 Eutelsat announced, that their satellite assets will be renamed under a unified brand name effective fr om March 2012. This satellite will become
Eutelsat 21B.

The
Star One C3 satellite was ordered from Star One S.A. in March 2010 and will carry a hybrid payload and will be located at an orbital slot between 75 and 84 degrees West Longitude. Based on Orbital's Enhanced Star-2.4 Bus (http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sat/osc_star-2.htm), the spacecraft will carry 28 active C-band transponders for coverage of South America, and 16 Ku-band transponders with six switchable channels between Brazil and the Andean coverage region. Star One C3 will generate approximately five kilowatts of payload power and will feature two 2.3 meter deployable reflectors and one 1.4 meter earth deck-mounted antenna.

November 9, 2012 - Ariane Flight VA210
Arianespace's heavy-lift Ariane 5 launch with the EUTELSAT 21B and Star One C3 telecommunications satellites has been postponed 24 hours due to unfavorable weather conditions in French Guiana.
High-altitude winds over the Spaceport's launch site exceeded the limits that are part of safety conditions for every Ariane 5 mission, leading to the postponement decision.
The Ariane 5 and its two satellite passengers are in a "safe" mode at the Spaceport's ELA-3 launch zone, ready for a resumption of the final countdown.
This flight's launch window remains the same for tomorrow, opening at 6:05 p.m. local time in French Guiana and continuing to 7:51 p.m.

November 10, 2012 - Ariane Flight VA210
The final countdown is underway for Arianespace's sixth Ariane 5 launch of 2012, which will carry the EUTELSAT 21B and Star One C3 telecommunications satellites into geostationary transfer orbit.
This mission is to be performed from the ELA-3 launch complex at Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana, deploying the two passengers during a flight of 33 minutes.
Total payload lift performance for the heavy-lift mission is approximately 9,215 kg., which includes 8,250 kg for the two passengers to be released into geostationary transfer orbit, along with the launcher's dual-payload dispenser system and integration hardware.
Arianespace's previous Ariane 5 missions during 2012 lofted the ASTRA 2F and GSAT-10 relay platforms on September 28; the Intelsat 20 and HYLAS 2 telecom satellites on August 2; a mixed telecommunications/meteorological payload of EchoStar XVII and MSG-3 on July 5; the JCSAT-13 and VINASAT-2 telecommunications spacecraft on May 15; and Europe's third Automated Transfer Vehicle for servicing of the International Space Station on March 23.
