Из возникших у меня ассоциаций эта была вторая по счету. А первая - многоконечные звезды на эмблемах СДСов-Си. Но там другое количество лучей, другая симметрия и проч.
А с эмблемой NROL-30 - действительно, абсолютное сходство. Странно только, чего бы это вдруг НОССы пересели бы на Дельту? :roll:

Ну, если читать буквально, то на патче нарисована большая "звезда навигатора" и надпись "Альтаир", что тоже использовался для навигации в море, арабами в частности. Птичка, это очевидно, созвездие Орла, да и сам Альтаир, значит - "летящий ястреб".

Вообще, сдается мне, что сабж полетит на какую-то хитрую орбиту, кабы не на ССО. Соображения такие: этот пуск был отдан Боингу в разгар EELV'шного скандала, когда всё, что только можно, переписывалось на Локхид-Мартин. Именно ЛМ достались 3 из 4 пусков контракта EELV Buy 2. А четвертый - это как раз сабж.

Ответ очевиден - птичка тоже производства IDS. Наверное нрошники по контракту покупали вместе КА и запуск, за что получили скидку. :)
Хм. По-моему - такой вывод совсем не очевиден... К тому же за подобный подход ("вы заказываете у нас и ракету, и спутник - и получаете скидку") в отношении правительственных контрактов весьма чреват... Боинг ведь и так в то время был фактически под баном за гораздо меньшие махинации.

Правда, http://www.answers.com/topic/delta-iv-launches пишет о варианте 5.2 - но кому больше веры: насавскому сайту или вики-подобному ресурсу?
Верить нельзя никому. Тот же сабж, официально, обещали запустить в Июне 2007. :)
Сроки - не показатель. Гораздо страньше было бы, если б запуск ни разу не отсрочили.

А где наберется 25 аппаратов? В GPS больше (и каким боком NRO), в остальных группировках меньше. Может если все NROшные? Экспериментальный спутник какой-нить - ни к кому конкретному не приписать :roll:

A maiden flight of sorts for the lone configuration of the Delta 4 rocket that has not yet been utilized will take to the skies from America's western spaceport Thursday afternoon, weather permitting, on a mission carrying a classified spy satellite.

Comprised of medium- to heavy-lifting vehicles, the Delta 4 family has five members with increasing levels of performance for hauling larger and more massive payloads to any desired orbit.
Since debuting in November 2002, rockets with no strap-on solid motors, some with two boosters and others with the maximum of four, nose cones in both four- and five-meter diameter options, and the mighty triple-barrel version with three core stages strapped together have flown successfully.
Now, this week's flight will put the puzzle pieces together to form the Delta 4 Medium+ (5,2) rocket, a towering 217-foot-tall launcher with a hydrogen-fueled first stage and two solid-propellant boosters mounted on the sides, a cryogenic upper stage and nose shroud five meters wide.
All of the elements have flown before, repeatedly racking up successes, such as a Medium with two solids but a four-meter nose cone, or earlier this year when a five-meter shroud flew with four solid motors. But this specific "5,2" configuration is the last one left to prove in flight.
"As the first-ever Medium+ (5,2) mission from either Cape Canaveral Air Force Station or Vandenberg Air Force Base, this launch represents a significant milestone in Delta 4 operations for the nation," said Lt. Col. Brady Hauboldt, the 4th Space Launch Squadron commander and the Air Force launch director.
"It provides final flight verification for all five variants of the Delta 4 rocket and marks the capability of delivering payloads of all sizes and weights to orbit. It is the 19th overall Delta 4 launch until the EELV program since 2002."
Development of Delta 4 began in the mid-1990s under the Air Force's Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program to carry military and civilian spacecraft of all shapes and sizes from both primary U.S. launch sites.

All five configurations in the family feature a Common Booster Core first stage with the Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne-made RS-68 liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen main engine and an upper stage with PRW's RL10B-2 cryogenic engine.
What separates the different variants is the use of either two or four Alliant-made strap-on solid rocket motors and the selection of the nose cone diameter to enclose the satellite cargo during ascent through the atmosphere. The solids are larger, more powerful cousins to the Delta 2 and Delta 3 rockets.
As its name suggests, the Common Booster Core first stage is "common" across all Delta 4s. A CBC measures about 150 feet (38 meters) in length, 16 feet (5 meters) in diameter and weighs 54,000 pounds unfueled.
Looking from the bottom to the top, the RS-68 powerplant and engine section are at the base of the stage. The liquid hydrogen tank accounts for about two-thirds of the stage. That portion of the CBC is covered by orange foam insulation. The white band is the known as the centerbody. The next orange section is the first stage liquid oxygen tank.
To provide additional thrust at liftoff, the Delta Medium+ rockets will sport either two or four solid-fueled strap-on boosters. The 43-foot tall motors are attached to the first stage by a ball-and-socket design.
Manufactured by Alliant Techsystems, these third-generation graphite-epoxy motors are advanced and larger versions of the boosters from those previously developed. The Delta 4 motors are dubbed GEM-60s because they are 60 inches (1.55 meters) in diameter.
They can fly with nozzles that are either fixed or can swivel, gimbaling through hydraulics to help steer the rocket in flight.
The average thrust produced by each booster is 195,000 lbf at vacuum.
For the Delta 4 Medium and Medium+ 4,2 rockets, an interstage adapter that tapers from the five-meter first stage to the four-meter upper stage is used to join the two stages of the rocket. The Medium+ and Heavy rockets with five-meter upper stages have a straight barrel-like interstage.

The RL10B-2 engine, equipment shelf and liquid oxygen tank are hidden within the rocket's interstage during launch. Once the first stage has completed firing, it and the attached interstage are jettisoned to reveal the RL10. As seen on the launch pad, the top band of foam on the rocket is the upper stage liquid hydrogen tank.
The stage carries about 45,000 pounds (20,400 kg) of propellant for a total burn time of around 14 minutes. A normal mission to geosynchronous transfer orbit features two firings.
For the bigger members of the Delta 4 family -- Medium+ (5,2), (5,4) and Heavy -- the stage is enlarged to five-meters in diameter in order to carry more propellant. The oxygen tank is lengthened by a half-meter and the hydrogen tank goes from four to five meters in diameter. The total fuel load is increased to 60,000 pounds (27,200 kg), extending the stage's firing time to nearly 19 minutes.
The RL10B-2 engine -- developed by Pratt & Whitney on decades of RL10 heritage -- has the world's largest carbon-carbon extendible nozzle that drops into place just after the first stage falls away. The cryogenic engine produces a thrust of 110 kN (24,750 pounds) and a specific impulse of 465.5 seconds. It has a total service life of 3,500 seconds and 15 starts, including ground testing.
Atop the upper stage sits the payload attach fitting and the satellite cargo enclosed within the fairing. The nose cone can either be four- or five-meter composite shrouds or a five-meter aluminium fairing that dates back to the Titan 4 rocket.[/size]

United Launch Alliance has issued a post-launch press release hailing the launch as a success.
"Congratulations to the NRO and to all the mission partners involved in this critical national security launch," said Jim Sponnick, ULA vice president of mission operations. "ULA is proud to have supported this mission and delivered critical capabilities to the men and women defending our freedom throughout the world."
"NROL-25 represents the first of five national security space missions that will be launched by the EELV program over the next four months - including four NRO missions along with the upcoming AEHF 2 launch," the statement said.
The next ULA launch is set for May 5, when an Atlas 5 rocket will launch from Florida with the U.S. Air Force's second Advanced Extremely High Frequency communications satellite.

Ракета-носитель Delta IV с "сверхсекретным" грузом Национального управления военно-космической разведки США (NRO) стартовала в ночь на среду с базы ВВС Ванденберг в Калифорнии.
Запуск был произведен в 16.12 вторника по местному времени. О целях и задачах запущенной ракеты, а также о том, выполнила ли она свою миссию и или доставила по назначению секретный груз, NRO не сообщил. Онлайн-трансляция запуска в американских СМИ была прервана через три минуты после взлета ракеты.
- Мы видели только, что запуск ракеты прошел успешно, - сказал комментатор онлайн-трансляции Дон Спенсер.
Как предполагают некоторые аналитики, ракета могла вывести на орбиту американский радиолокационный спутник нового поколения, предназначенный для зондирования Земли в ночных условиях и в плохую погоду, передает УНН.

Delta 4 rocket successfully lofts surveillance satelliteЦитироватьA Delta 4 rocket made a thunderous departure from California on Tuesday afternoon, only to slip into a news blackout minutes later while it climbed higher and faster to deploy a classified spy satellite, a success-defining milestone that was confirmed by hobbyist observers.
The United Launch Alliance-made booster roared away from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 4:12:57 p.m. local (7:12:57 p.m. EDT; 2312:57 GMT) on a southwesterly course to reach a retrograde orbit inclined 123 degrees relative to the equator.
A pair of strap-on solid boosters burned out 90 seconds later, then peeled away as the liquid hydrogen-fueled main engine continued to accelerate the 21-story rocket over the open Pacific.
When the 47-foot-long nose cone was jettisoned three-and-a-half minutes into flight, the now-standard veil of secrecy fell over the mission to halt any further live updates about staging or burns by the upper stage engine to inject the satellite into space.
The hush-hush nature for the rest of flight is all part of launching covert payloads for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office, the secretive agency that operates the country's fleet of spy satellites. The NRO does not disclose the purpose of its spacecraft being sent up on each launch, saying only that the flight was called the NROL-25 mission.
But a band of precise satellite-tracking specialists linked together by their hobby and the Internet was poised to look for the newest object in the sky, adding the spacecraft to their catalog.
Given the rocket's unusual trajectory to the southwest, analysts were certain the satellite was the second in a new generation of radar-imaging surveillance craft used by the NRO. The first launch in the series took the same path from Vandenberg aboard an Atlas 5 rocket in September 2010.
And right on cue, the new spacecraft flew overhead Tuesday night exactly where the observers expected it to be.
"Today's successful launch is a tribute to the hard work and ingenuity of our government and contractor team and I am very proud of them. After the six successful launches last year, our 50th anniversary year, we proved tonight we can continue that hitting streak as we work to deliver superior vigilance from above for the nation," said Col. James D. Fisher, director of the NRO's Office of Space Launch.
The NRO has three more launches slated for this year, including an Atlas 5 and Delta 4-Heavy from Cape Canaveral in late June and another Atlas 5 from the West Coast in early August.
This was the maiden mission for the Delta 4 Medium+ (5,2) configured rocket, the last of the family's five members to take flight. It used previously-proven elements of the vehicle like the five-meter upper stage and twin boosters to assemble this particular version to carry the given size and weight of the payload.

Radar satellites offer all-weather, day-and-night imaging for reconnoitering global hotspots to inform policy makers and warfighters. These newest, advanced spacecraft follow the heritage of five "Lacrosse" radar birds put up by the space shuttle Atlantis and Titan 4 rockets between 1988 and 2005.
The updated satellite design is smaller and less massive, enabling the craft to fly aboard mid-sized Atlas 5 and Delta 4 rockets.
The intelligence-gathering craft probably use a synthetic aperture radar system to observe strategic targets around the globe in both daylight and darkness. The eyes-in-the-sky can pierce clouds and even reveal underground structures like military bunkers.
Lacrosse satellites orbit in normal, 420-mile-high perches, but this new generation fly retrograde, or against the Earth's rotation, about 685 miles up. The rationale for the different type of orbit isn't known.
At the time of Tuesday's launch, the first satellite in the new generation was flying westward over the southern tip of South America.
"The teamwork between the 30th Space Wing, the National Reconnaissance Office, United Launch Alliance and numerous other agencies was seamless," said Col. Nina Armagno, 30th Space Wing commander at Vandenberg. "It's this synergistic mindset and attention to detail that led to our amazing launch today."
The liftoff begins a stretch of 8 flights by the Air Force's Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicles -- the Delta 4 and Atlas 5 -- from Vandenberg over the next two-and-a-half years, according to Lt. Col. Brady Hauboldt, commander of the 4th Space Launch Squadron that oversees the boosters' operations at the California installation.
"We are about to kick off a very, very busy time in EELV operations at Vandenberg. Right after this launch, we'll roll into our next mission -- an Atlas 5," said Hauboldt. "There is not much of a break."
That rocket is scheduled for delivery to Vandenberg from its manufacturing factory in Alabama this month, and crew exercises to prepare for the launch also begin soon. Liftoff carrying another NRO payload is slated for Aug. 2.
A Delta 4-Heavy vehicle arrives at the base this fall for blastoff next August, perhaps sooner, to launch a large NRO satellite. It will be second such flight by the mammoth vehicle from California.
"We love it! We love to be busy out here. It keeps us sharp...and puts a spotlight on Vandenberg's contribution to national security," said Hauboldt.
Also on tap is NASA's first Atlas 5 launch from the West Coast, deploying the next Landsat spacecraft in January, and a commercial Atlas 5 in March with the GeoEye 2 Earth imager.

Похоже сабж опять сманеврировал. Сегодня ночью мне пришлось его поискать, правда сильно далеко он не ушел от той эфемериды, что сейчас висит на Heavens-above. USA-234 отстает от расчетной эфемериды на 9 минут. Реальная траектория пролета также немного отличается от расчетной.
